“Everything that we hoped for Plus more!”
Reviewed June 19, 2011

We were in Maui for our once in a lifetime trip. I read the reviews here on Trip advisor. Sounded unbelievable. When Mahalo Tours picked us up the great adventure started. We met the 1st driver (sorry can't remember his name started with a C) He was really funny and for 7am, he helped wake us up and get us even more excited about what we were about to see. We met up with our driver second driver cousin K and the other couples that were going to do the trip with us. We saw plenty of beaches lot of flowers and plants that cousin K knew a vast amount of information about. We had Fresh Coconut juice, Guava, Apple Bananas, Avocados, Pineapple bread that the company makes for the trip. We even got to taste a few sea creatures that grew on the lava rocks on the beach. K was a very courteous driver and safe driver for the Road to Hana. We saw horses( Heckle& Jeckel), pigs, cows, the winery, famous peoples property. The best parts waterfalls and Black beaches with Lava tubes. The food provided for lunch was really good, I think we all went back for 2x's. The whole thing was absolutely wonderful. We started our trip in Kihei and it was an 11 hr day. So do wear comfortable clothes and shoes you can get wet. Bring a camera with lots of room and batteries. This company does not like to stick families with kids and older adults together to give a better environment for the tour, big plus! If you have not done the Road to Hana with Mahalo Tours you are missing out!

“Not what I was hoping for!”
Reviewed June 3, 2011

I took this tour based on the reviews I had read. We decided not to drive it ourselves, so that we could enjoy the scenery without the driving hassles. Anyway, it seem to start off well, but when our driver/ tour guide K started passing up all the areas where we could've stopped, that's when we became unhappy campers. We didn't get to see half of the scenery that the other tour vans were stopped at. Sure we stopped at one waterfall and the colorful Eucalyptus tree, but we didn't get to stop at many others. I wasn't aware that we would be driving past Hana, so that is probably why we didn't make many stops. Driving full circle was not worth it. The roads were very rough and sitting in the back of the van made for a sore bottom. Black sand beach was our only favorite pit stop. On a good note, though, we did stop for lunch at a roadside stand and I must say that their food was delicious. I wish I could say that we enjoyed this tour, but we didn't. We should have done it ourselves. We could have stopped at where we wanted to stop at, and then just go as far as to where Charles Lindberg is buried and then turn around and go back.

MahaloTours, Guest Relations Manager at Mahalo Tours, responded to this review, June 6, 2011

We here at Mahalo Tours are very sorry that you were disappointed with your Road to Heavenly Hana tour. We understand that we cannot be everything to everyone, but we do our very best to have a superior quality product that we share with our passengers. Unfortunately, we cannot explain your claim that we did not make stops that other tours were making as we stand by our assertion that we make more stops before and after Hana than any other Hana tour. In point of fact, our tour is known for this very feature! Indeed, if you read the 15 other Trip Advisor reviews, you will see at least 3 wherein the Mahalo Tours passenger claims that they were at stops and watched other tour companies pass on by. Also as you stated in your review of the Sheraton (did not like the hotel, just the concierge department) the Sheraton concierge always recommend us first to their guest because of our reputation and the difference between Mahalo Tours and the other companies.

As for not enjoying the "back side" of the island, that is a personal choice. Some passengers have claimed that it was their favorite part as it shows a part of Maui/Hawaii that they would not have ever dreamed of, much less seen on their own. We know that our 12-13 hour tour is a long day, but the truth is the reason that we make so many stops, take the time to explain the flora, fauna, and history of the land, and traverse the nearly uninhabited "back side" is to give our passengers a much more comprehensive view of Maui than the average traveler. Maui is not an average destination and our tour is not an average tour. This is what makes Mahalo Tours special .... our aloha spirit and the desire to share the REAL Maui to our guests!

“See the Road with Mahalo!”
Reviewed May 9, 2011

We were originally going to drive the Road to Hana ourselves using the Maui Revealed guidebook. Then I found Mahalo Tours & Transportation and their full-day Road to Hana tour and decided that it was better to have someone else drive us around. Excellent decision - our driver, Shawn, was very energetic and knowledgeable about the local flora and made many stops for us to get out and take pictures. I think she said she’d driven the Road over 300 times, so she’s pretty good at it. It’s a small van, only 8 passengers, so it’s nice that you’re not in a huge bus. No stress, no fuss, and we felt very safe the whole time.

This is a long day, we covered 230 miles in about 11 hours and saw and learned so much. Continuing past Hana around the backside of Haleakula was amazing, the diversity in landscape and plants on this island was just incredible. You will not go hungry, she provided plenty of snacks and a yummy bbq lunch and even had hand wipes for after using the porta potties. I’m sure we saw much more than if we had tried to do the drive on our own. The only downside, of course, is that you don’t get to spend as much time as you want at certain places, but if you do the tour early in your trip, you can always come back on your own.

You can’t book directly with Mahalo Tours, but call the Sheraton concierge and they will book it for you, even if you’re not staying there. You just have to go to the Sheraton the day before your tour to pick up your tickets.

Let someone else do the driving for you, take Mahalo Tours and you won’t be disappointed!

“Best Tour Ever!!!!!”
Reviewed May 7, 2011

We were in Maui for a few days, my wife wanted to see waterfalls, the red and black sand beaches and I wanted to go to the winery we ask the concierge at our hotel, she advised us to go on a trip to Hana with Mahalo Tours she said they are the best, she was right! From the moment the driver picked us up they were knowledgeable, informative, engaging, hospitalble, humorous, always gracious and fun to be around. Both Cousin Kawika and Cousin Kalani were very warm and welcoming. The price included lunch and snacks but what they provided was far more that what we expected. They started out with some very delicious Hawaiian pastries that I would have never got to taste had we not been on this tour. Cousin K took us to many beautiful places, joined us at every stop and took pictures for everyone never rushing us. Cousin K talked to us during the tour, always offering us water and even brought us some delicious pineapple. It was a good idea to wear your bathing suit under you clothes, comfortable shoes are a must and a towel if you plan to get in the water. We were very glad that we took the tour instead of trying to rent a car and go on are own we would have never known to stop at all the places that Cousin K took us to. Cousin K made us feel very safe and comfortable the road was filled with curve after winding curve, bridges and the other tour buses that were driving very fast, the people inside did not look very happy! It made us appreciate Cousin K's driving and choosing Mahalo tours even more! For lunch cousin K took us to a local place in Hana that was very delicious, they were very accomadating my wife doesn't eat red meat or pork but they even had a vegetarian dish all the food was delicious and was provided in the price. We got to enjoy and do all the things that we wanted to do and more! Cousin Kawika and Cousin Kalani really made is feel like we were with family and not on a tour which made this tour an exceptionally awesome experience and the fact that they are Hawaiian's that know the meaning of Hawaiian hospitality really made a difference!!!!! Thank you Mahalo Tours

My husband and I went to Maui for spring break we wanted to go see Hana and visit the winery the concierge recommened Mahalo Tours, she said they were the best she was right! From the moment they picked us up the hospitality and the personal attention that cousin Kawika and cousin Kalami gave us was unmatched! From the moment the picked up they brought us Hawaiian pastries that we would have never gotten to eat had we not gone on this tour. Cousin K stopped and showed us places that we would have not know to stop at but he also stopped at places the the other tour vans didn't stop at. Cousin K spoke throughout the tour answering questions, always very gracious, informative and knowledgeable. We got to see sites that we would have never seen if we had tried to rent a car or had went on a different tour. This was definitely the best tour I have ever been on! Thank you Mahalo tours
