“The Tropical Paradise we were looking for......”

Our host and owners were very welcoming. The property was perfect, Tropical, secluded, and offered fantastic views. The "cabin" was Excellent. Clean, roomy and comfortable. We loved it. There was one shortfall I should mention, although the kitchen was quite nice, kitchen utensils and pot and pans were in need of replacing...Sorry.... I'll give it 4 1/2 Stars, 5 being The BEST.

Management Response

Aloha Guests,
Thank you for the heads' up on those utensils. I agree! New utensils are on the way. I'm sticking with the three French white porcelain pots with glass lids but will review the pans more closely. Did those fresh eggs stick to the stainless ones currently there? We always appreciate knowing where we fall short on guest expectations.
Mahalo,
Terry & Michael

“Wonderful relaxing getaway”

We wanted to explore the Han area and what better way than staying locally. This solar powered cottage retreat is tucked away in a tropical flower/forest locale. It was very comfortable and had everything we could ask for. We received fresh eggs two mornings while there. The eggs were excellent. This was ideally located to explore the Hana area from. Remember to bring food for breakfasts and dinner as most of the food places are only open till mid afternoon. If we come back to Hana, we will look into this again. Thanks!

“Magical and Tranquil”

We heard about Entabeni Cottage from an old friend who is a friend of the owners, Terry and Michael Kristiansen. We booked the cottage for a 4-night stay. The property consists of 6 acres, on the mountain side of the Road to Hana (8 miles north of town). We were greeted by three friendly but not overly friendly dogs and two cats. A flock of guinea fowl squawked excitedly when we got out of the car. It was a welcoming group.
The botanical gardens, now open to the public, are lush, with 30 species of palms, bamboo, and many varieties of tropical ornamental plants, shrubs, and trees.
The cottage is charmingly furnished with a comfortable king-sized bed, a large dining table, two easy chairs, an alcove for writing and reading, a lanai with a view of the ocean, high quality linens and an ample supply of towels, and a well-equipped kitchen. Terry and Michael also provide beach chairs and snorkel gear. We were happy to have a kitchen in which to cook as dining opportunities are limited in Hana, as are food supplies. Also you probably wouldn’t want to navigate an unfamiliar, twisty 8-mile road back to the cottage in the dark after dinner.
Terry suggested that we stop in Kahului and stock up on food. Another useful suggestion was Mana Foods on Baldwin Avenue in Paia. It’s a treasure of a store, despite its dilapidated appearance, like something out of the 60’s, with an amazing assortment of high quality natural food products and good quality produce. We also very much liked the barbequed ribs at Braddah Hutts BBQ in Hana just past Hasegawa’s General Store.
Terry provided us with fresh eggs from her flock of chickens (you will never eat eggs from hens raised in battery cages again), as well as some fresh vegetables from her spacious greenhouse.
We were concerned about making our 11:00 a.m. flight, but the trip to the airport took just about 2 hours, including returning our rental car.
This is a very special place. The whole experience was otherworldly, and we are trying to hang on to the tranquility and slower pace we experienced during our stay at Entabeni Cottage. We recommend a minimum of a three-night stay, as it takes a while for the magic to do its work.

“Charming, secluded cottage in a 6-acre tropical garden”
Reviewed February 25, 2015 for a stay in January 2015

I have stayed at Entabeni Cottage many times and am counting the days until I can return once again. Hosts, Terry & Michael, have created a tropical paradise! Situated on a hillside overlooking deep blue Pacific waters, surrounded by lush, landscaped gardens, and bathed by the northeast trade winds, the cottage provides a peaceful respite, a perfect vacation spot for those who want to avoid more touristy locations. The cottage itself could not be more cozy and comfortable, and guests are treated to fresh eggs, garden vegetables, and tropical fruits.
