“Serenity”
Reviewed May 12, 2009

Came here on my own to read, meditate, relax, enjoy and felt comfortable staying here by myself. The dogs were nice company and not a nuisance. Close enough to Hana town (< 4 miles) to pick up groceries and get a meal but cooked most of my meals in a kitchen that was very well-equipped. I stopped in Paia town at a great grocery store--Mana Foods--two blocks on left on Baldwin--to load up on food. The house has cable TV, DVD,CD, great wireless internet as well as free telephone service to the mainland (no cell phone service at the house). You can be as connected as you want.

Went to Luana Spa in Hana for a Thai massage--enjoyed it so much that I went back the next day for a facial.

Next time I will bring my husband. We have stayed at the Hotel Hana Maui which is delightful but this is less expensive and I love being able to spread out and cook some of my meals.

We stayed at the lovely Hale Ulu Lulu cottage from April 23 - April 28, 2009. What a gem! We found the cottage so welcoming upon our arrival - Hawaiian music playing, flower blossoms all over the house, and a phone call from Leokane to make sure all was well. We loved being so close to the Pipiwai Trail, the 7 Sacred Pools, Hamoa Beach...and it also happened to be the East Maui Taro Festival - awesome food, great local celebration, and we got to hear Leokane perform! We just loved Hana - it was so peaceful, serene, relaxing...needless to say, we miss it very much. Chris and Leokane (and Kimo, too!) do a fantastic job of providing just the perfect Hawaiian atmosphere.

This beautiful spot in paradise is made even more fantastic by the care Chris and Leokane take to make guests feel at home. Of course, at our house we are never greeted by beautiful blossoms scattered everywhere, origami towels and soothing Hawaiian music. But these are comforts we could get used to. We had never stayed in Hana before and it is truly magical. If I had a dear friend visiting I could not have done more to create such a peaceful, beautiful, stress-less environment.

My husband, 15 year old son and I all loved Hale Manu. We loved the privacy of the beautiful landscape and garden all around the house, the original tiki-funky-yet-tasteful decor, the cottage feel of the house, the deck, the warm ocean breezes coming through our bedroom windows, the quiet location near Hamoa beach, how beautiful it was upon our arrival (clean, towels folded into origami shapes, plumeria blossoms strewn about), the wonderful places to visit up and down the coast -- and two separate bedrooms plus living area. The 2 mile Pipiwai trail at Kipahulu was my favorite activity on the trip-- better than all the wonderful restaurants, snorkeling whalewatching etc. we did on the west side of the island. I would recommend this place to just about anyone -- except maybe that friend of mine whose primary goal in traveling is to shop, or the acquaintance who "doesn't like scenery." Although the art gallery at the Hana Maui is wonderful, I can't do anything for the one who doesn't like scenery. This place is scenic at every turn. (Note for those with teenagers -- if your teen loves the outdoors and beautiful places, and doesn't mind time with mom and dad, this works. We never even turned on the TV or stereo. Texting was enough to keep him in touch with friends. If your teen needs lots of action and other teens, this may not be the place.)

We absolutely loved our trip to Hana! The Hale Ulu Lulu was beautifully decorated and immaculately clean. We felt completely at home, especially with the owners' dog, Kimo, siting on the front steps with us every morning while we ate our breakfast and watched the gorgeous sunrise.

We wanted a quiet space to recover from a very hectic year..and we found the place....the first reaction to the cottage is one of total awe..beautiful hard wood floors, open space, decorated to perfection with an artistic flare....a quilt on the bed with bananas hanging outside the bathroom window...

We absolutely loved this home

Fabulous! Hale Ulu Lulu is everything it is advertised to be and more. Proprietors Chris & Leokane put a great deal of effort into ensuring our 2 night stay in late January was perfect. We arrived to a beautifully decorated plantation house with Hawaiian music playing and plumeria blossoms decorating every room.

Nearby is a walk along the ocean cliffs to Venus Pool. Short drive to an incredible Bamboo Forest hike. Be sure to sit outside at night and stargaze and get up in time to catch the sunrise--nothing like it!

We are already wanting to go back!
