We adored our stay in Hana thanks, in part, to this lovely property. We stayed in the two bedroom house for two nights...the location and privacy were just what we desired. Chris & Leokane are marvelous hosts and have excellent recommendations for hikes & sight-seeing. The Bamboo Forest is a must-see!

My ONLY regret is that I didn't heed other's recommendations to buy food & supplies BEFORE arriving in Hana. There are only two tiny general markets...we would have loved to grill steak on the BBQ but couldn't find anything once we arrived. So, STOP FOR SUPPLIES. Regardless, we enjoyed out time at The Guest Houses more than our time at The Ritz in Kapalua!

This place was great. The house is beautifully decorated. The kitchen is well-stocked obviously by someone who likes to cook. There were also lots of little amenities like robes, a bowl of fruit and fresh flowers all around the house when we arrived. The house is just minutes from Hana. We really enjoyed our stay and were reluctant to leave when it was time to move on.

Such a great, special place to stay. We stayed one night, decided to dine in. Cooked our own meal with food bought from nearby store. The house was well stocked. Wished we could stay longer, but had to move on to other side of the island. Very close to Hamoa beach park, nice secluded location. This place has wonderful charm, right by the water, with perfect sunrise. If we ever return to Hana, would no doubt stay here again.

My daughter, grown, and I spent 6 delightful days in Hana staying in the 2 bedroom guest cottage/house. It was so clean, well-stocked with just about anything you could need, large and spacious. The location is perfect as well.I can't recommend it highly enough! The owners, Leokane and Chris, are so friendly and helpful, and Leokane entertains a couple nights a week at the Hotel Travaasa with his 2 Hawaiian friends, wonderful musicians. If we return to Hana, we will definitely stay there again!

We spent three days in Hale Ulu Lulu in January - I wish it had been longer. It was just long enough for Hana to begin to "seep into our bones" and we loved every minute of it. Our first impression when we walked in the door that the cottage was too nice for us, but we quickly got over that and settled into the comfort of the cottage. The decorating in the house is gorgeous with great attention to detail. Lots of wonderful, thoughtful amenities, and gorgeous fresh flowers made the place special. We were fortunate enough to find out via locals in town that Leokane (one of the owners) is a musician, so I called and asked him if he was performing while we were there. He was, and thus we spent a magical evening on the terrace at the Travaasa Hotel, watching the full moon rising over the bay, and listening to beautiful Hawaiian music and watching the hula dancers. A night we will always remember.

Also be sure to ask about the path to walk along the coast and also to the Venus Pool - both are within walking distance of the property. If you go late in the day, you will have the pool all to yourself.

One of our all-time-favorite spots!

My wife and I stayed 11 nights on Maui and 5 of them were in the Hale Manu house in Hana. Wow, Hana is a special place. We especially loved the house. Leokane and Chris have really thought of everything to make this place special and comfortable. We love to cook and everything we needed was right there. Going to the beach? There are beach chairs. There is music in the house and we just felt right at home. We slept to the sound of rain and the ocean and the sun was shining by 10:00 am or so. The grounds of the house are beautiful and Leokane showed me the lime tree so we could pick a few for our drinks at night. Be ready to downshift in Hana because other than being in one of the most beautiful places on earth with some fantastic beaches there is not much else if you require corporate stimulation.

God willing we will be back at the Hale Manu House.

Go to Hana to enjoy Hawaii without all of the hype and commercialism. Stay at The Guest Houses at Malanai because they'd feel like Old Hawaii. Or at least my idea of what Old Hawaii should be. We stayed in the Hale Ulu Lulu, which is a remodeled sugar plantation house. It is totally private with a great view of the ocean. (The beach is about a half mile away.) The kitchen is better equipped than any I ever seen before. The place is so charming you are going to want to spend some time and cook a few meals there. If you want a con, taking showers in the beautiful old claw-foot bathtub takes a little doing, but this is definitely not a deal breaker. We we're celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary (and an original honeymoon on Kauai) and could not have been more pleased.
