“Great Stay in Hana”
Reviewed January 17, 2014

We stayed three nights in the Hale Manu House and had a very enjoyable experience. Staying in Hana for several nights allows you to explore the area in much more detail and the Hale Manu House was well equipped, easy to find, well located, clean, spacious and very comfortable. Delicious fresh fruit, excellent coffee to grind for our morning breakfast, and fresh flowers throughout the house created the type of welcoming atmosphere that typifies Maui but has become more difficult to find. Chris and Leokane manage this attractive property and are friendly and most helpful. For an added treat and a lasting memory, stop at Hasegawa's General Store in Hana and pick up a couple of music CD's by your host, Leokane Pryor. If you want to treasure your Maui experience after returning home, listening to Leokane's wonderful music will do the trick!

Just the place to delight the senses! The cottage welcomes you with open arms amidst orchids in the entry way and about. The large living and dining room are flooded with light. Wonderful claw-foot bath tub with shower...really, all you could need to be a culinary chef. Internet...Can't think of a thing that left me wanting, except for more time to stay and enjoy. Walk to the Venus pool (really called Waioka Pond), short drive to the Hana Ranch and market. Enjoy!

We stayed at Hale Ulu Lulu January 5 & 6, 2014 for two nights. The light and fresh breezes throughout the cottage are refreshing and energizing. The open floor plan and clever sliding wall panel in the bedroom makes this residence feel wonderfully spacious and comfortable. We loved the decor -- unique Hawaiian furnishings, beautiful bead board walls and substantial wood moldings with a soothing color palette throughout. It's easy to see that a lot of care and attention to detail has gone into creating the perfect destination after the long winding road to Hana. The cottage faces almost due east so you can greet the morning sun from the front steps while enjoying a wonderful cup of fresh brewed coffee.

At about 10:00 the morning after we arrived we grabbed the beach chairs from the back deck and a couple of nice beach towels from the cupboard and headed to Homoa Beach. Parking is VERY tight and it looks like the the local police have marked all of the shoulder areas off limits due to road work between the beach and the guest house. Luckily we got one of the few legal spaces available. Homoa Beach is incredible. There's a little shade and lots of soft sand. The water was wonderful - plenty of waves and also plenty of calm for swimming. After three hours at the beach we headed back to the cottage for a quick shower then into town for a late lunch.

In the late afternoon, we drove back from Hana just a short distance past the cottage to the shoulder parking where you can hop out and take a short hike to the Venus Pool (stay to the right on the path) or just walk across the meadow and enjoy the ocean view along the cliff face. If you have any energy left after a day in the sun, get up a little after midnight and take a walk to the front yard for a star show that's simply spectacular. Stars all the way to the horizon! It was beautiful.

Thank you Chris and Leokane for providing a wonderful memory of Maui.

Great location and atmosphere. Spent one night here with another couple, in late October, and really enjoyed the location and environment. The house beautifully decorated, with lots of little instruction sheets available. Had a great sleep and woke to another beautiful day. Highly recommended!

What a fantastic oasis in a beautiful setting. The home could not have been more perfect, from the incredibly equipped kitchen, the comfy beds, luxurious towels, to the beautiful outdoor setting. The location was within walking distance to both Hamoa Beach and the Venus Pool - two very special places. Chris and Leokane were such gracious hosts, & listening to Leokane sing at the Ranch Restaurant was the highlight of our trip. We could not recommend this location more highly.

After a long day on the road arriving at the Malanai guest house was a treat. Spacious, clean and with a lot of charm and character. Directions to get there as well as arrival details were provided. Highly recommend this place over the local hotel.

I know it has all been said before by previous travelers,
but we want to add our voices to the chorus of accolades
and praise for this amazing place. After a long and
winding trip on the Hana Highway, we were more than
ready to throw our bags down and arrive almost
anywhere. Instead, we were greeted with the most
beautiful ukelele music which we later learned was
created by one of our hosts. The care and attention to
detail did not go unnoticed as we were immediately
transported into a lovely oasis of beauty in the spirit of
aloha! Flowers were sprinkled everywhere and the kitchen
was a joy to cook in with avocados and tropical fruit
awaited us, just in time for a magical tropical smoothie.I
walked in and said I never wanted to leave. If you read
this, try not to make our mistake. We only stayed 2 days
and it was not enough. We had hoped to visit the temple
in the botanical gardens but mother nature nixed our
plan with a torrential down pour. If only we had more
time, we could have gone back and seen so much more.
Hana deserves a week. Now we know. We listened to our
hosts' suggestion and booked a massage with their
neighbor up the road a ways. His name and number is
written on the welcome sheet. This is not to be missed
by anyone who loves, not a good massage but a GREAT
massage. We were so sad that we would not be able to
return to see him again as we went to him on our last
day. we both felt he was a true healer and we would have
benefited from seeing him more often. So, do not
hesitate to stay here. It is a gem of a place and Hana is
one of this planet's most special places and when we
return we hope to revisit the Guest House, Hale Ulu Lulu.
