“Paradise in Hana”
Reviewed September 10, 2012

We stayed at Hale Ulu Lulu for 2 nights at the end of August. Hana and this wonderful home could not have been a better place to begin celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary! The home looks just like the pictures and there are numerous thoughtful touches provided to make your stay special. There are way too many extras provided to begin to list.
If you are in Hana when Leokane is playing at Hana Travassa, be sure to go. It was an amazing intimate evening in a very special place with very special people. Leokane, the musicians, and the hula performers are all incredibly talented. They welcome you and generously share their Hawaiian culture and tradition with you.
Most importantly, the time we spent at Hale Ulu Lulu allowed us to feel a little of what it must be like to live in paradise. Don't miss the Guest Houses at Malanai or Hana!

I stayed at the 2 bedroom cottage in early August for 3 nights with my partner. The cottage was bigger than we expected and very well equipped. The free wifi, television and cd and dvd players were a nice modern touch to the otherwise rustic feel of the property. The fresh coffee beans and grinder were an added bonus. The bedroom had a lovely outlook onto the property with a view of the ocean. My girlfriend particularly enjoyed the fruit trees on the property, and we had an abundance of avocados each morning. One of the other highlights of the cottage is its close proximity to Hamoa Beach, which has to be one of the most beautiful beaches in Hawaii. The nearby venus pool was also a delight. We never actually met Chris or Leokane, although we did recieve a friendly phone call on the day we arrived and they seemed more than happy to help with any of our questions.

We stayed at Chris and Leokane's 2 bedroom cottage for two nights. Excellent place: cool breezes at night, fans and mosquito nets (which we didn't need, but our younger son did). Unexpectedly terrific touches when we arrived: flowers everywhere, Hawaiian music playing, really great avocados (from the property!) in a bowl, coffee beans, and a very nice quality kitchen. The cottage sleeps 2+2, but we used cushions on the couch in the living room for our older son (who wasn't about to bunk with his younger bro'!) and everyone was fine.

Absolutely loved the place. Even the geckos were welcoming. I would say that if you are particularly bug-phobic, Hana is probably the wrong side of the island for you, but otherwise you can't go wrong at Hale Manu. We should have stayed a third night to see more of the sights around Hana, but it was terrific to have two mornings to beat the crowds to several of the local places. Chris gave us excellent advice as well.

We only wish we had known of Leokane's performance schedule at the Trevaasa so we could have seen him play. Next time!

Room Tip: Sleeps four if two to a bed. Couches in the living room are hard, but we put cushions from the porch...

After a gorgeous but long drive from the airport along the Hana Highway, you arrive at Hale Ulu Lulu. This is a great place, calm & relaxing, with an authentic Hawaiian feel (it's a renovated sugar plantation residence). You know it's special when you get there & Hawaiian slack key guitar music is playing, flower petals are everywhere, and the cool trade winds are blowing. The kitchen is modern, the bed is divine, and the pedestal tub is wonderful. They've thought of everything you'll need to explore, from towels to backpack to cooler to sunscreen. And you'll want to explore--black & the rare red sand beaches are nearby. Hana is one of the most authentic Hawaiian places left in all of Hawaii (and this was my 10th trip there). It's a short drive to Hamoa Beach and you can walk to the Venus (Waikoa) pool. Not on the beach, but close enough you can hear the waves. It's really well done. Great for a couple looking to get away from it all!

When we arrived at the The Guest Houses at Malanai, I felt like I had arrived on a movie set, but this was REAL. A large, manicured lawn faced a view of the ocean, and opened onto a spacious, light-filled house with Hawaiian music quietly playing inside. There were fresh flowers everywhere, and the cross-breeze through the house kept us comfortable at all times. The house was beautifully appointed, and we had plenty of quiet and privacy. I looked forward to returning each of the 2 days we were in Hana, and hated to leave such lovely surroundings.

We spent three nights in the Hale Ulu Lulu; the 1 BR 1 Bath guest house at the end of June. What an amazing time! This little house is located in one of the most beautiful places. When you look out the front windows of the cottage, or relax on the chairs in the front yard, you can enjoy an amazing view of the ocean through the coconut palms and lush greenery. The guest house is very comfortable and clean and has all the amenities you could possibly need. The owners do an amazing job of creating a magical place to vacation. It's also located close to all the Hana sites. Just keep in mind that you are visiting the rain forest. So it rains, it's humid, and there are some bugs. But Chris and Leokane go to great lengths to make sure your stay is clean, comfortable and memorable. We highly recommend staying here.

Very very clean--and we are picky. Very private cottage with one bedroom, plus kitchen and large living room with picture windows. Spacious. Very quiet. Beautiful flowers growing on property. Organized very well by owner--all on line. About 3 or 4 miles south of Hana with ocean views and huge green grass front yard. We spent one night in July. Fine without air conditioning. About 10 miles north of fabulous sacred pools area. Easy to find with owner directions.
