Hale Ulu Lulu (the 1BR/1BA cottage at the Guest Houses at Malanai) was very nice and had all of the comforts of home including a full kitchen with spices and cooking utensils, a large dining room which seats six, CD player/stereo, nice living room and a convenient and quiet location! That was exactly what we were looking for!
Having spent the previous several days of our vacation on Kauai, we were looking forward to the change of pace on Maui. Hana is away from the crowded and noisy tourist spots and gives you what you REALLY want in a Hawaiian vacation - beautiful views, ocean breezes, relaxation.
We loved our stay at the Guest Houses at Malanai. We rented the Hale Manu (2br) house and absolutely loved it. It's a great place to unwind and feel like you're living like a local. The Hawaiian decor along with the open and breezy feel of the house make you feel relaxed as soon as you walk in. We loved the fully outfitted kitchen as well as the nice touches such as beach mats, chairs, umbrella, etc... All those things that make you feel at home.
What makes this place stand out is not just the property itself but the spirit of Aloha conveyed by the owners. Leokane and Chris made us feel very welcome in their little corner of the world, and we would definitely return here.
My much needed R and R was deep and complete in that oh so lovely place that our great hosts provided. Thank you for creating a fun, clean, stylish and equipped home away from home. I live here on maui and Hana is the place i come to unplug, so it was a great delight to find the guest houses at malanai ideal in every way.
This february marked the third time my partner and I stayed at Malanai, and like the previous experiences it was complete heaven. We have travelled to Fiji, Tahiti, Costa Rica, Belize, Mexico- but Maui has proven to be the most relaxing and magical of places. Our cottage was impeccably clean and airy, with fresh flowers and beautiful details everywhere. It is very apparent that our hosts love and care for their cottages very much, from the furnishings to the fully stocked kitchen (we even had a ice cream making machine which we used to make coconut milk based ice creams- AMAZING). We only drove to the nearby store for food (and canned coconut milk ;) and to the bamboo forest and Red Sand Beach, the rest of the time we took leisurely walks to the gorgreous Venus Pools or Hamoa Beach. We ate like crazy and still managed to lose weight. Our cottage had beach chairs, towels, sunscreen, and snorkels- everything we needed. Getting to see Leokane sing at the hotel was very special and the only time we left our cottage at night. We had a peaceful, gorgeous, happy week in Hana and can't recommend Malanai enough. I hope we get back there again soon!
We stayed for a weekend and it was excellent. It is in a great location near Hamoa beach yet very private. The place is beautiful. It is well appointed and very cared for. You feel good as soon as you arrive.
The kitchen was by far the best stocked of any B and B I have ever been to. The hosts Chris and LeoKane are absolutely wonderful, charming, friendly and helpful.. There were even supplies for the beach. I would highly recommend this special place
There’s a reason why the Guest Houses at Malanai take the number one spot for accommodations in Hana. My husband and I had the privilege of staying three nights at this wonderful place and we couldn’t agree more with the rave reviews! The Hale Manu is a very charming, spacious cottage with a large lanai, surrounded by the privacy of a lovely garden, yet offering a great view of the ocean. Upon entering the cottage you are being welcomed by a wonderful atmosphere; tasteful furnishings and artwork with an antique Hawaiian flair, an airy feeling thanks to the tall, open beam ceilings and cupola; Hawaiian quilts adorning the beds and fresh plumeria and hibiscus blossoms in every room! The cottage is well kept, clean and equipped with anything one could possibly need for a comfortable stay, including a Hawaiian themed library, entertainment center with a large collection of Hawaiian music, free WiFi, fully stocked kitchen, BBQ, as well as a washer/dryer unit. Fall asleep to the soothing sounds of waves crushing ashore, wake up to the beautiful song of the resident cardinals and enjoy a spectacular sunrise with stunning views right from your bedroom window! The owner’s love and care for this piece of paradise, as well as their attention to providing comfort and happiness for their guests is present everywhere. Leokane and Chris were wonderful hosts and we highly recommend the Hale Manu for any traveler seeking a peaceful, clean accommodation in Hana. The location was perfect for what we were looking for: in walking distance to the magnificent Venus Pool and Hamoa Beach, a very short drive to Hana town and all surrounding attractions such as ‘Ohe’o Gulch, Wai’anapanapa Park and the Kahanu Tropical Botanical Gardens with Pi’ilanihale Heiau. One last tip for future travelers: should you be interested in Hawaiian music, don’t miss a chance to see one of your host’s appearances at the nearby Travaasa Hotel. Leokane Pryor is one of Hawaii’s premiere falsetto artists with an amazing talent and captivating voice. It was the icing on the cake of our stay in Hana to be able to watch this great artist in a live performance!!!
