Owner description: Aloha and welcome to Mauis Garden Of Eden Arboretum. An Arboretum is a park dedicated to trees. We also feature hundreds of lowland rainforest species of flowers, shrubs, and ground covers as well.We began this project in1991 with 30 acres of densely overgrown jungle, now after investing more than 20yrs of physical labor and 2 million dollars, we have created one of Hawaii's most visited botanical gardens. We have many plants found nowhere else or are uncommon to Hawaii, such as rare Amazon fruits and medicinal species, endangered hardwoods, spice, exotic nut trees, ferns and so much more...A botanical Disneyland with over 2 miles of maintained graveled walking trails...A truly educational facility with over 700 plants botanically labeled. Try to allow at least 45 minutes to explore. We feature great views and photo opportunities but no direct access to the waterfall or pools. If you are only interested in restrooms (we now have improved facilities) You can do so for free 2 miles down the road.A portion of your entry fee is donated to the nature conservatory. The cost to keep our gate open averages $1,000/dy so we sincerely thank you for your support,,,especially those who have contributed beyond our entry fee. Most botanical gardens have teams of volunteers and use chemicals to curb costs. Our entire staff are well paid professionals, and we are almost entirely a chemical free park. Thank you for visiting, we do take your comments to heart

Found this on the Road to Hana drive and was not sure exactly what it was, so we turned in and were pleasantly surprised! After initially considering turning around at the $10/person fee for the garden, we bit the bullet (like we haven't already spent tons in Hawaii already!) and entered.

After parking, we hiked the trails within the grounds and were amazed at the beauty of the foliage and views the Garden had to offer. We saw waterfalls (with people swimming under them) as well as ocean views that were awesome, but the vegetation and colors are what will really keep your camera busy.

The "bird show" at the end of the tour is where a bird trainer/world renowned photographer grabs his exotic birds and places them on your shoulders, arms head and hands for a pic. He then offers to take his professional pictures with your camera for $20 - we passed on the offer and it seemed his whole attitude changed, asked us to stop taking pictures and video… I understand this may be how he makes his living, but he also needs to understand not everyone needs to say yes. The birds are pretty but if you want to avoid the hard sale, keep driving.

Overall, the views and colors are worth the price - you can spend a lot of time in here so be aware of your agenda on the road to Hana, but it is worth it. Your reward will be great views and awesome pictures, even if you are not a world renowned photographer.

We were almost put off by the entrance fee- $10 to look at plants? We were seeing plenty for free already, but they had restrooms and we needed them. This turned out to be one of our favorite stops. Great views, beautiful grounds, labeled plants, walking trails and very playful peacocks. A great place for lunch if you are a late starter like me.

The Garden of Eden truly suits its name. It's beautiful and very peaceful to go through. I could've spent hours there. The views were spectacular and the plants/flowers were all clearly marked. Great view of the upper Puohokamoa falls and the "Jurassic Rock" used in the opening sequence of the the Jurassic Park movie. There are also peacocks roaming the grounds. The $10 fee to get inside is worth every penny. It's a great place to stop for lunch or a snack, and they've got the cleanest port-o-potties I've ever scene.

On the way out, you can visit with Bud the Birdman and his gorgeous parrots. He's very nice and will let you hold the birds for free. If you'd like your photo taken with the birds, he'll use your camera and take the pictures for $20. He took about 10-12 shots of my husband and I, and every one came out great. A wonderful souvenir, and again, as photos at places like this go, a real bargain.

A "must see" on the road to Hana!

If you're like most people you might easily breeze right on by this garden. Afterall, a small sign is the only warning you have it's approaching quickly on your right (inland - mauka).

But don't just skip it thinking it's nothing worth seeing. It might be the most beautiful spot on all of Maui. I even picked it to get engaged to my wife at, and it was the most romantic moment I've ever had on Maui.

I have included photographs showing the beauty of the garden. I highly recommend stopping to see it and it's many variety of flowers and plants. It has the largest variety of Ti (ki) plants in Hawaii.
