“Remote...enough”
Reviewed January 25, 2014

Such a gorgeous beach and just hard enough to get to that it's not overrun. Surprised that many people walked the trail to get there, took a picture, and then left. Great beach to hang out at with fun swimming (some colorful reef fish). Plus you can get a tan all over (nude sunbathing)!

“Beautiful, but dangerous”
Reviewed January 18, 2014

One of the most beautiful beaches, but the hardest one to get to! The hike to get to it was very dangerous but totally worth it! I don't recommend for small children or for people who are afraid of heights to go. (There will be a lot of climbing and steep hills. Bring good shoes for hiking, and if you plan on swimming at the beach bring also a pair of water shoes to protect your feet from the rocky sand.)

“Don't Miss This!”
Reviewed January 15, 2014

I knew this was one place we had to visit on our way to Hana. You need to park at the end of the road by the school (when you're using your GPS you'll understand what I mean) and there are multiple trails that walk you back through the trees to the pathways that lead to the beach. I definitely recommend the lower path along the shore. The upper path, which is what we took, can be pretty dangerous if you don't have the right shoes on or don't have your wits about you. Be sure to stop and take a picture of the beach on your way in before you get there because the contrast of the red against the blue of the ocean is something unforgettable. The sand is pretty gravelly so be sure to wear water shoes if you have them. It's an incredibly beautiful place and there wasn't really anyone there when we went about an hour or two before sunset. Don't miss this if you take the road to Hana....it's so worth the trek!

“Worth the hike”
Reviewed January 11, 2014

We visited this on the way to Hana. The Red sand beach is a beauty. The hike is a little challenging but the beach at the end of the hike is worth it. As some of the books recommend, it is better to take the rocky route by the shore rather than the steep hike over the hill near by. The last portion of the trail leading to the beach is by the red colored hill and is the only way into the beach - this could get challenging if you are not wearing proper shoes.

“Scenic but dangerous.”
Reviewed January 8, 2014

The swimming is great in this seclude cove on the east side of Kauiki head. The trail to get there is extremely dangerous. Many tourist have been injured trying to get down to the beach.
