“3 days in Hana”
Reviewed November 14, 2005

My wife and I recently returned from a wonderful honeymoon in Maui. We spent 5 days in Wailea and 3 more in Hana at the Hana Oceanfront Cottage.

The Cottage could not be more perfect. Quiet and peaceful (be sure to ask about the construction next door)and perfectely located next to the best beach on the island.

A bit of advice on coming to Hana. The drive is too long and hard to do twice in a single day. But we stayed for 3 nights and had a great time. And it allows you to see Hana (and the pools etc) early and late in the day when there are very few other toursists.

PS The 2 grocery stores in Hana are pretty poor. So stock up before you hit the road.

I have rented hotel rooms, villas, apartments all over the world, but even I could not have anticipated such a remarkable stay I just experienced at the Hana Oceanfront Cottages. I rented the cottage which is right across the street from the best body surfing beach on Maui: Hamoa beach. This cottage was not only beautiful on the outside with incredible landscaping, outdoor showers for sandy feet and bodies and a lanai which faces the ocean, perfect for candlelight dinners, but the cottage itself was beautifully and comfortably furnished. The kitchen was stocked by an experienced chef with every necessary tool and appliance. Even cold mugs in the freezer ready for your use and homemade bread which lasts for a week for two people, upon your arrival. The cost is very reasonable compared to the surrounding area and the location is unbelievable with sweeping views of the Pacific and the Hamoa Beach only steps away. The hosts Dan and Sandi Simoni have given their love and hard work to make a little paradise just outside Hana town. Just one drawback, you can't stay forever! Check them out at (---)

Other positive reviews have described the accommodations so well that we will not repeat what they said. Hana Oceanfront Cottages is located overlooking Hamoa Beach and a 20 minute walk from Koki beach. Both beaches are beautiful and frequently have very good surf for bodysurfing (Koki) and bodyboarding (Hamoa and Koki). Swimming at Hamoa Beach is also enjoyable.

We have stayed at Hana Oceanfront Cottages for 5 consecutive years and have already made our reservations for next year for the cottage. The first 4 years we stayed in the suite and this year we stayed in the cottage, which has a spectacular view of Hamoa Beach, the surf, and the ocean. At night we could see the lights on the northwest coastline of the Big Island. Listening at night to the sounds of the waves breaking at Hamoa is especially pleasant.

Both the suite and the cottage are comfortable and decorated in very good taste. The suite is more spacious than the cottage but the cottage has that "drop dead" view. There is occasional traffic noise on Haneo'o road but the convenience to Hamoa Beach, the comfort of the suite and the cottage, and the beauty of the surroundings far outweigh that.

Dan and Sandi Simoni have always been considerate and helpful hosts, and we now regard them as friends. They are extremely knowledgeable about places to go, things to do, and public community events.

Every time we come back we feel like we've returned to that special little bit of "Hana Heaven"!

We had the pleasure of staying at the cottage in early June. We arrived from a long drive and Sandi was there to greet us with fresh fruit and a warm smile. The cottage is spottles and beautiful. the website does not do the place justice. We had an awesome time on hamoa beach and having the house to go back to and have lunch and dinner was so awesome. We felt sorry for all of the day trippers we saw who had to drive back the same day as we relxed on our poarch with a cocktail looking over the ocean. Dan and Sandi were so nice and made us feel right at home, it was like staying with a family member. It is very quiet at night so this may not be for everyone but we loved it and can't wait to go back! We also saw the suite and it is beautiful and very, very, clean!!

My wife and I stayed at Hana Oceanfront Cottages in May 2005. There are two units, a separate cottage and a guest suite beneath the owners' (Dan and Sandi Simoni) main house. We stayed in the cottage and we couldn't have had a better time. We arrived late after a long drive. Dan and Sandi were there to greet us - with smiles and a warm loaf of just-baked bread with an accompanying jar of local lilikoi (passion fruit) jelly. Delicious! The cottage was perfect for a 5 night stay. Wonderfully decorated, very Hawaiian with lots of personal touches, very new, impeccably clean. Our porch faced directly on the ocean at Hamoa Beach (which we hear was Michener's favorite beach in the South Pacific!) and we spent hours down at the beach. Beach chairs, colorful towels, a barbeque, completley outiftted kitchen, TV, VCR, CD player - every creature comfort to make a great vacation. The weather was fabulous, lots of blue sky and sun and the occasional passing (5 minute) rain shower which keeps Hana a luscious green. Most important was the helpful and friendly attitude of our hosts. They had been everywhere that tourists might go, had lots of helpful suggestions from the best snorkel beach to the best masseuse. We'll definitely be back!!

Hana is a taste of old Hawaii and the accomodation at Hana Oceanfront cottages is great. It has totally complete and thoughtful facilities.

I was disappointed when we were informed that there would be light construction next door and this turned out to be full scale. From eight in the morning the drilling and machine operated saws whirred making staying at the suite unbearable. Luckily we had many trips planned and were waking early, but you don't generally want to do this on holiday.

We had also seen detailed on a website that there was hot tub there whcih we were lookign forward to put we were told that was for the hosts only.

It really is the prettiest and most natural part of Maui and the best beach is 100 steps away. It was fantastic to escape here to get away from the noise.

I found the owner to be strange and felt uncomfortable in his company. All of the other reviews state what cool hosts they are. He is the most stressed out person I have met; especially when he gets to live in paradise!

My husband and I stayed at the Hana Oceanfront beach cottage for 5 days, and our only regret was that we did not stay longer. The cottage is perfect in every way, from the well stocked kitchen and bathroom, to the outstanding ocean view. We arrived to be greeted by Sandi and Dan, with a loaf of homemade bread and lilikoi jelly, a beautiful display of tropical flowers, and a large plate of bananas, limes, and lemons. Cooking in the cottage was fun, we had every kitchen tool needed, and a gas grill outside by the tiki torches. The best part of each meal was dining on the lanai with an ocean view. We sat there for many hours watching the waves, the surfers, the whales playing in the ocean, and the beautiful colors dance off the water and the beach. The immaculate cottage is equiped with beach mats and chairs, books, games and satellite TV, comfortable furniture, and lots of information on activities. Hamoa Beach is an easy walk and is especially lovely at sunrise. Staying here was like living in a beautiful beach cottage with all the amenities of home and the incredible peace and quiet of a secluded residence. From this site, we visited the parks and roads of Hana, enjoying nature trails and scenic vistas. If you go, try Luana Spa and enjoy an outdoor massage above Hana Bay, where your troubles all melt away. Hana is slow, quiet and peaceful - not for everyone - but certainly for those who want to get away from it all. Mahalo to Dan and Sandi for sharing this wonderful experience with their guests.
