The museum provides a wonderful history of the Hawaiian culture.
Many photographs of local people who helped make Hana their special home.

Nice people ran the cultural center, but there wasn't much there. Lots of photos of people with only their names, but without any description to know how they were important to Hana.

This is a great place to visit if you are in the area. An enormous amount of interesting stuff in a very small place. The exhibits may apparently change this year, so hopefully more of the same.

Hana’s Population in 2010: 2,291: this is not Honolulu (2010 population: 337,256) and this is not the Bishop Museum ($17.95 ‘required’ admission). Instead you get a small museum that does the best it can to preserve a little of both Hawaiian and Hana-ian culture. (Read about the tsunami in ’46.) The $3 is a ‘suggested’ donation. That donation might be used to better the quality of the museum in the long run. I found the docent to be knowledgeable, especially in lieu of all the folks who stop by asking for tourist advice, especially the “backside road.” She tolerated it all and with enthusiasm and aloha. (The lady behind the counter could learn a lot about P.R. and aloha by emulating her.) There are a couple of good pieces inside this one little room. Reading the information provided in the cases gives some good information. The courthouse is unique in that it is still used today. It was disheartening to see so many rave reviews for the Art Gallery (nice, but completely beyond my budget) and the negatives for this tiny, local museum trying to do what it can with limited everything (space, parking, resources). If the one hour of time and the $3 is such a big deal, please buy a bottle of beer and go watch the waves crash on one of the beautiful Hana beaches. (But please respect the “aina”- both the bottle *and the cap* are garbage!) SUPPORT ART in all its forms.
