Just got back from Hana, you want to go there, like others have said the Pizza is really good, and the vibe is super laid back and fun, do expect to wait, I'd say about 45 minutes or so depending on what time you get there, but you can place your order then go check out their store that has freshly baked Banana bread, Ice Cream and other local goodies.

You can also just hang out and soak in the vibe.

Certainly not your average pizza place, for a start it's outside and they are showing a movie projected onto a sheet. It was busy on the night when we visited and they were playing "Back to the Future II" on the screen. Maybe it's a throw back to another age but we settled down to watch the movie while our pizzas were cooked and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The pizzas were very good too :-)

Terrific wood-fired pizza with more-than-expected options. We wanted our veggie pizza to go, and so the pizza was placed on a piece of cardboard and then wrapped in two big banana leaves and closed up with a bamboo skewer. Everything is done with conservation and the earth in mind. They do run low on toppings now and then, so don't be surprised if your red peppers magically turn into carrot slivers! The salads we saw being served were huge and fresh. The outdoor seating is family style/picnic tables, and there was a movie showing for anyone interested in watching (not sure anyone was). Don't miss the adjacent open-air stand where you can get ice cream, smoothies, fresh fruit, banana/pineapple/nut breads, coconut and other candies, sauces, and more. Everyone working at the Clay Oven and the stand were enthusiastic, friendly, and so spirited. This place is a must-see in Hana, and be sure to buy something to help support their efforts.

We spent three nights in Hana in early October. Near the General Store we saw a sign for Clay Oven Pizza, only open Friday and Saturday nights, and since we needed dinner, off we went. Great pizza! We especially loved the pesto pizza, and Clay Oven was one of our favorite meals on our trip. The people are really friendly and fun, the pizza is great, it is BYOB, and don't forget your bug spray. It's the rainforest.

My husband and i spent 2 nights in Hana for our 5th anniversary. I had read about The Clay Oven on Trip Advisor and decided we had to eat there on our anniversary (our first night on Maui, and in Hana). That night was not busy at all (maybe a couple other people there), so the pizza came fast. The second night we stayed in Hana, we decided since the pizza was SO good the first time, we would have it again (plus there wasn't much open). This night was supposedly the busiest they had ever been! We waited for at least 30 minutes to order our food, and then another hour for our pizza. We actually ordered it to go, which is interesting because they wrap it in palm leaves instead of a box.
The pizza was wonderful! And not expensive at all, especially compared to everything else in HI. I think most pizzas were $16-$18, which feed 2 people.
A lot of locals seemed to eat there. There was a good mix of people - locals and tourists. The workers were very friendly and seemed to love what they were doing. You could tell the pizzas were not just thrown together; they actually took pride.
While you are there, stop in at the little stand by the road. Try their banana bread! I don't like bananas, but I ended up eating half a loaf! It was wonderful!
