Valley Isle Excursions' Road to Hana Tour was totally worth it. We've been to Maui yearly for the last ten years with the family and have drove it ourselves before. This time we decided to take the Road to Hana Tour and we're so glad we did for several reasons.
First of all, we've had a lot of wind the entire vacation which can be very distracting when driving that road, but it finally died down a little bit on the day we took the tour so it was a bit better than we expected, but was still a visual workout.
Second, lucky for us and unlucky for another driver, there was a rock that fell on a car two cars in front of us. If we had been driving and doing our usual gazing at the greenery, or the amazing waterfalls, we might have gotten into an accident, but our driver was on it and had left plenty of space between us and the next vehicle when that rock, which was the size of my son's car seat, hit their roof. The vehicle in front of us tried to swerve to avoid hitting the car that got hit with the rock and nearly caused an accident. On those roads swerving at the last second is not something you can do with any measure of certainty that you won't end up 100 feet down into a gully or crashing head on into another car. Plus, it would ruin the entire holiday to have to explain it all and deal with the rental and insurance companies. So glad we didn't have that worry.
The whole time we felt safe and incredibly well cared for with the AC always on, lunch included and also free drinks the entire day. We had plenty of opportunity to get out and take pictures of the beautiful waterfalls and hit the private bathroom stops on the way, certainly an added bonus for the women, as well as some of the sights that we never took the time to explore before, like the park and the black sand beach. Also, we'd tried the last two years to go to Oheo Gulch, also called the Seven Sacred Pools, but had no luck. This year we made it and even stopped at the winery for sunset.
Can't say enough good things about our driver either. Great guy, funny and extremely knowledgeable about everything Hawaiian without being too verbal during the ride. And, best of all, we had a chance to really relax this time and weren't spent the next day like we are when we do the driving. We've done Valley Isle before, then tried a couple of the other tours over the years, but this was by far the best and we see why they're still going strong. We're looking forward to doing it again next year with the entire family. Thank you Valley Isle.
