“Absolutely worth every penny and then some, great trip”
Reviewed April 9, 2011

Valley Isle Excursions' Road to Hana Tour was totally worth it. We've been to Maui yearly for the last ten years with the family and have drove it ourselves before. This time we decided to take the Road to Hana Tour and we're so glad we did for several reasons.

First of all, we've had a lot of wind the entire vacation which can be very distracting when driving that road, but it finally died down a little bit on the day we took the tour so it was a bit better than we expected, but was still a visual workout.

Second, lucky for us and unlucky for another driver, there was a rock that fell on a car two cars in front of us. If we had been driving and doing our usual gazing at the greenery, or the amazing waterfalls, we might have gotten into an accident, but our driver was on it and had left plenty of space between us and the next vehicle when that rock, which was the size of my son's car seat, hit their roof. The vehicle in front of us tried to swerve to avoid hitting the car that got hit with the rock and nearly caused an accident. On those roads swerving at the last second is not something you can do with any measure of certainty that you won't end up 100 feet down into a gully or crashing head on into another car. Plus, it would ruin the entire holiday to have to explain it all and deal with the rental and insurance companies. So glad we didn't have that worry.

The whole time we felt safe and incredibly well cared for with the AC always on, lunch included and also free drinks the entire day. We had plenty of opportunity to get out and take pictures of the beautiful waterfalls and hit the private bathroom stops on the way, certainly an added bonus for the women, as well as some of the sights that we never took the time to explore before, like the park and the black sand beach. Also, we'd tried the last two years to go to Oheo Gulch, also called the Seven Sacred Pools, but had no luck. This year we made it and even stopped at the winery for sunset.

Can't say enough good things about our driver either. Great guy, funny and extremely knowledgeable about everything Hawaiian without being too verbal during the ride. And, best of all, we had a chance to really relax this time and weren't spent the next day like we are when we do the driving. We've done Valley Isle before, then tried a couple of the other tours over the years, but this was by far the best and we see why they're still going strong. We're looking forward to doing it again next year with the entire family. Thank you Valley Isle.

“What a trip”
Reviewed March 27, 2011

Did the day trip to Hana, It was a full day 6:30am till 5Pm a full day. Many beautiful sights to see. We decided on doing the bus tour a small 12 seat. We booked through expedia. Out driver Tim was amazing he was friendly & outgoing and was full of information . This is a must to do in Maui.

We stopped for a picnic lunch , we visited a winery , and took many beautiful pictures.

It is a very windy curvey, if your not a good traveller gravol helps.

If you decide to take the tour ask for Tim. You book thru your concierge at front desk, our was expedia.

“Complete waste of money”
Reviewed October 12, 2010

If you want to enjoy the island rent a car. We were talked into booking the Hana tour because the expedia expert said that it was a beautiful scenic drive and the person driving was going to miss all the beautiful waterfalls and it was a very dangerous curvy road. Not entirely true. The highway has many scenic points you can park and enjoy the view. The roads are curvy and at some points only have a one way roads, the driver coming down hill has the right a -way, nothing you can’t handle if you drive slow and calm. The driver stops like for 3sec so you can take pix of the views but they don’t even come out nice since you are taking the pix from inside the bus. He also stops about 5 times during the tour to see clifts and to use the restroomsThe driver talks during the entire 8hr tour with facts of the island, nothing you can’t replace with a nice Bob Marley mix. Save yourself the $95pp fee and enjoy the view on your own terms.

“Road to Hana - a fantastic adventure.”
Reviewed September 30, 2010

The Road to Hana was a very unique adventure. Truly enjoyed it -- driving through the Rain Forest and seeing all the plants (quava, mangoes, pineapples, orchids, bamboo) was simply amazing.
The tour guide (van driver -- Iwii) was informative and deligthful; with his personality he made the trip less frightful on the narrow, rough and high roads. This is an adventure I will always treasure.
