I'm terribly overdue in writing this review of the four days we spent at Huelo Point Lookout during the last part of our honeymoon in October 2012. What an amazing spot! We stayed in the Rainbow Lookout, and it was a perfect, private, beautiful way to close out our honeymoon. Sharyn and Jeff were fantastic hosts - around if we needed them, but respectful of our privacy. They left us a personal note of welcome when we arrived (later in the evening), along with a bowl of fresh passion fruit and bananas, some chocolates, and a bottle of wine in the fridge! The cottage and its views are even more beautiful than the photos suggest. Lying in bed upstairs, you can watch the moon rise directly overhead through the skylight, while in the morning you're greeted with sunshine and treetops swaying in the breeze. One lanai gives you a place to have coffee or grill dinner, and the other holds the hot tub and the outdoor shower. There also are chickens on the property (fresh eggs every morning!) and Sharyn's herb garden, which we were encouraged to gather herbs from for our meals. Sharyn and Jeff really have thought of everything - from towels (there are tons of them - both for the bath and the beach!) to portable coolers to an outdoor grill to snorkle gear. Huelo Point was our favorite part of our honeymoon, hands down.

Huelo Point is a little bit of a drive from Pa'ia - we did not mind that at all, as we wanted a cozy hideaway for a few days - but others might. If you want to be right in town, this is not the place for you. The drive back includes some twists and turns, as you're on the beginning of the Road to Hana. But, it's worth it 10 times over. Thank you, Sharyn and Jeff, for making our stay so wonderful! We'll be back!

This was our second visit to Huelo Point Lookout, definitely our favorite place in all of Maui. We stayed in Rainbow Lookout and the review below (titled "Paradise") captures the essence of it's beauty. Sharyn was her ever gracious self and we appreciated the welcome gifts she laid out for us. There is no A/C but the amount of sliding doors, constant breeze, and huge ceiling fans kept us comfortable, even on days into the upper 80's. The outside shower is best enjoyed mid-afternoon when the dappled rays of sunlight shine through the palm canopy above. There is no stove or oven, but they have equipped Rainbow with sufficient small appliances and a grill outside that can handle just about anything but a turkey. Being foodies, we cooked quite a bit and found wondrous choices down at Mana Foods in Paia, most of which were organic and locally sourced. This is the quintessential romantic getaway, a welcome reprieve from the upscale hotels that dot the landscape on the opposite side of the island. It is a bit off the beaten path but if you make the dreaded drive to Hana, it puts you allot closer than most places.

We weren't sure what to expect but the friendly and helpful emails from Sharyn, the owner, and the information she provided in advance of our visit were extremely helpful. Luckily, we arrived early enough in the day that it was still light and we could settle in. Sharyn came by to meet us and answer all of our questions. She is the consummate host.

So how was it? All I can say is "WOW"!!! We stayed in the 2-story Rainbow Lookout Honeymoon cottage and although Sharyn told us there was another couple staying next door we never saw another guest during our 5-day stay. From the Hawaiian coffee, condiments, candy, local eggs and bottle of white wine waiting for us in the fridge, to the fresh pineapple, papaya and bananas on the counter, we were so impressed. The cottage was comfortable, tasteful and charming and the views were absolutely stupendous! We had our own private hot tub with outdoor shower, lounges, patio with table, chairs, gas grill and fountain. The couples shower was wonderful and we really appreciated the heated towel rack. We had access to the pool but never had the time or inclination to use it. Everything we could want was in the cottage. The hand carved spiral wood staircase to the bedroom loft, half-bath and small terraces on either side were fabulous as were the incredible ocean breezes and sunrises directly through the large glass windows. Looking up at the stars through the skylight above the bed was beautiful. Votive candles were placed throughout and there were reading lights on the wall above the bed which was very comfortable. Everything we needed was provided from towels, beach towels, beach chairs and boogie boards, cooler, coffeemaker and grinder, microwave-it was all there. Sharyn even arranged for one of the young ladies that work for her to do a load of laundry for us one day which we appreciated very much (there is a washer/dryer on premises for no charge when available). The WiFi worked perfectly and although there is no TV we did have a TV for DVD viewing although we didn't use it. There is a phone for local calls in the cottage.

Huelo Point is approximately 13 miles east of Paia and about a mile off the Hana Highway. While in a more remote area, it is definitely worth the extra driving time for a true piece of heaven. Driving to the other side of the island to Lahaina on our last day made us realize how wonderful it is to stay on the windward side of the island where you can feel the tradewinds blow, see the lushness of the vegetation all around you and wake up to the sound of the birds and a spectacular sunrise each morning. We hope to return again-it was magical!

Huelo Point Lookout was such a great find! From the welcome wine, eggs, & coffee to the secluded hot tub overlooking a lush green landscape- Sharyn made this our favorite stay on the island! Not only do I hope to travel back some day but we absolutely will be recommending this to our friends and family.

My husband and me spent 9nights in the Haleakala Cottage. The place is very quiet and very clean - it was a great retreat for us. The owners Sharyn and Jeff are amaizing hosts! I ate the best tropical fruits in this paradise1
