“Mediocre food. Dirty, neglected, worn and disgusting tourists trap”
Reviewed June 2, 2013

It was lunch time on Sunday, the restaurant was crowded with tourists and the parking lot was full.
We entered the restaurant and seated ourselves at a table that previous guests have just left. The server took the dirty dishes, but did not clean the table. We had to ask her to clean. We got menus, decided what we want to order, but nobody came to us. It took at least 15 minutes to come and take the order. There was only one server for the entire restaurant.
Food was mediocre.
The restaurant is old and bad kept. Restroom was not clean, especially the sinks. The ladies restroom's door looked terrible.
The owner doesn't want to pay salary to an additional server and saves money on the guest's time. Tourists do not come to Hawaii to spend their precious time on waiting forever for nothing in restaurants.

“Kokee lodge”
Reviewed March 28, 2013

The Kokee lodge restaurant is a nice spot to relax after a hike or chow down a guilt-free carbo-bomb right before you know you are heading off for a long exploration. Be Aware that the dining room closes at 2:30, we ended up with take-out. Local style chili over white sticky rice.

Wow..you better go for a walk.

I have had bunches of wonderful experiences up in Kokee. Taking friends out to the lodge is one of them. It is definitely not vegan, vegetarian leaning food...be aware. Its like a time warp, back to the 70's.

Have the fun!

“NOT a good experience”
Reviewed March 25, 2013

This place has a captive audience as the only place to eat in the Kokee State Park. It appears they know this. I was not expecting anything better than a Denny's type experience. We didn't even get close to that. The waitress which apparently had to wait on the entire dining room had a scowl on her face most of the time. She was proficient and It may have just been her personality but it was not very pleasant. Reminded me of the lunch room lady in high school.

Most of the drinks are in a hard to find cooler not visible from most of the tables and I listened to her tell table after table to get drinks from the cooler followed by the same confused look from each diner. We got the pork sandwich which was not very hot and BBQ sauce seem to be 70% water. Maybe this is just how it is supposed to be. Yuk. The cashier near the door where you pay was un-manned and I stood there for few minutes before the guy show up to let us pay.

Again, I was not expecting a high end experience and I am well aware of the laid back Aloha mentality. This was just bleech. The final blow came later when we experienced intestinal drama later in the day (sparing you the details). It had to be this stuff because my wife and I had totally different meals at dinner.

“Comfort Food!”
Reviewed March 18, 2013

We stopped here after exploring the Waimea Canyon. We were absolutely starving and went to Koke'e Lodge for lunch. I read many reviews and everyone said to get the chili and cornbread which we did and it did not disappoint. It was absolutely delicious! It was real comfort food and it hit the spot! Not to mention it was really cheap!
