You want to take some time to go to Waimea Canyon, also known as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. There are various parking areas to get different views of the canyon. I didn't get a chance to spend a lot of time there as I had a snorkel cruise to catch, but next time I go to Kauai, I plan to spend more time here.

If you visit Kauai, you definitely want to take the time to tour Waimea Canyon. It's really beautiful, and rather surprising. Make sure to go to the very end of the road, as the last lookout is the best of the whole batch!

Waimea does resemble the Grand Canyon, but on a smaller scale. So for those of you who have seen the Grand Canyon at day and lighted up at night, and maybe gotten close to the water fall via the boat ride (like myself) Waimea - thought beautiful in it's own right - doesn't quite get the jaw dropping.

But don't get me wrong - it's a beautiful sight nonetheless, but just don't expect it to be grander than the Grand Canyon.

Also, try to go earlier in the day when there is less chance of fog.

We didn't drive all the way up to the top, but stopped about half way up at a look out and got out to see the breathtaking views of the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific." If we return, I'll wear hiking gear as there looked like there were plenty of fun trails/canyons to explore.

So much to do here. Don't miss the kokee state park way up at the top and to the left. The trail by the bathrooms has one of the most ridiculously incredible views ever. Also, the forest trails were by far my favorite part. Most folks go to the rim, and down into the canyon, but the surrounding forests are great! Tree ferns and endangered birds abound
