“Worth the drive”
Reviewed March 15, 2013

This was a really neat sight. What I really liked about this attraction was it was only a couple hour commitment to get up to the top of the canyon, check out the scenery, and be on our way back to the beach (we drove from Poipu, where we were staying). So worth the drive up, which was easy in our midsize car. The views were stunning, and you really get to see how varied the landscape of the island is. It's also FREE! :)

“Know About the Weather Before you Go”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

One of the challenges of taking the long drive up to the Waimea Canyon is getting there and having the canyon be shrouded in fog and clouds. This has happened to me on a previous trip - we could see NOTHING. So this time while in Kauai, we took a small precaution of finding out the weather before going. We found that the whole week we were in Kauai, there was only ONE day that was projected to be clear weather. So we went on this day and were provided with a most excellent view. So my advice, is if you decide to take a drive there, to do a Google internet search on 'Waimea Canyon State Park weather' and you will see what the projection is. Cloudy=limited to no view...Clear=spectacular view that is worth the time of the trip. So please take my advice and plan your visit around the weather forecast.

“Feel the "Mana" (Spirit)”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

This place is a must-see if you go Kauai. I promise you that despite the numerous tourists and locals that come to this place, you will feel the mana. Make sure to check the weather forecast before coming to this place, as rain and "fog" (volcano smog) can ruin your experience. Make sure you bring water and/or food when you come here, since it's a long drive. Directions can be confusing, but you're on a vacation so it doesn't matter as long as you have enough gas :)

“Nice days only”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

You can waste a day with bad weather as the drive through the canyon is a Beatles song " The Long and Winding Road ". Nice cloud free days offer spectacular views of the Grand Canyon of the pacific. Stop in the town of Hannepepe and Waimea during your ride to the Canyon, plenty of cool little shops to check put.
