Good if you have two weeks of time and/or tired of other activities. My wife enjoys this type of things, I prefer spend time on beach, do snorkeling or board, play with kids or drink beer for the sake of tropical vacation in my 30s.
This is our 3d time on Hawaii and every time we went to do some big sightseeing, like crater on Maui and volcanic lava on big island. This one was the least fun. The driving took good half day for both ways from Wailua, local speed limits are nonsense, it was fun to watch other cars in batch pulled by authority standing on shoulder for group speeding tickets. Never saw such [--] anywhere else, guess it is part of the deal to keep road construction going, stopped for 30 miles or more in 25 miles zone, well same happened to us last visit.
So the canyon is not even remotely close to the grand one, it is beautiful in colors though. Everyone I saw there, spent no more time than we did!!! So if you want to drive for a 10 minute view it is up to you, just do not forget to pick some clothing as it is chilly up there. On our way back, older sun got car sick. To me, Kaui has much more to see and the canyon shouldn't be on top really. Probably good for older faulks, not advised for smaller kids!!
