My son and I had dinner on the front porch on our arrival and had Thanksgiving dinner on our last night on the island on the back porch. The view from the back is splendid but the front works well at night when one cannot see into the pitch black west side darkness. My Ahi steak was excellent, my son's Mahi Mahi as well. Thanksgiving dinner was traditional and good. Portions were reasonable but my 21 year old son would have eaten much more at home.
A very small wine list leads one to order a tropical cocktail or any number of excellent island beers.
No restaurant in Hanalei has nearly as nice a dining setting as this one. It makes you feel like you are dining in old Hawaii before the condos and the golf courses appeared.

Nice Hawaiian laid-back atmosphere. Quick and friendly service. Big portions, but the food is nothing special

Where to start? Of four entrees, one arrived hot, two warm and one offered fish still frozen in the middle. Frozen mahi mahi on Kaua'i, really? Once we got the server's attention, the undercooked fish was quickly replaced with a nicely presented and properly done plate. However, given that the sides were entirely different from the first attempt (and not what was ordered), we guessed that someone else's dinner was diverted to our table. From that point, service did improve. The correct sides appeared without our asking, and drinks were refilled. We were comped two scoops of ice cream for the four of us. There are not a lot of places to eat around Waimea, but try The Wrangler instead.

This could be a great place with some attention to detail and some staff training. The staff was willing and pleasant, but didn't seem to know what to do.

Very good food and friendly service. This is a family place, but is great for couple and individuals as well. Indoor and outdoor seating.

Husband and I dined twice at The Grove for lunch and dinner. Both times we found the service attentive and the food tasty. Shout out to the bartender our first night. He actually gave us a welcoming wave when he noticed us in the doorway. The sweet hostess who was also our server took it from there. Our lunch was unhurried and very pleasant, despite the heat and no AC. The Grove makes strategic use of fans and open windows!
Prices here are high for Waimea and our pricest meals on the island. Lunch came to over $50.00 with two drinks and two entrees. Dinner was under $40 with drinks owing to the specials, steak and pasta Alfredo. We enjoyed every bite.
The Grove has live music some nights. On Friday the singer was excellent. Thursday had a band and we couldn't get near the place.
The cocktails I had, Red Lava and Waimea Sunset, were amazing!!
One odd thing I noticed was the lack of Hawaiian specialties on the menu. Disappointing.
