“You might get dirty but its worth it”
Reviewed September 26, 2013

The first half mile is quite easy. Be careful, could be slippery but with a good pair of walking shoes it's ok.

Second half mile, prepare yourself. Forget about white running shoes, nice outfit and being not in too good shape. You'll have to hang on to tree branches, step into mud, and be very careful about your grip. It is not that difficult but rain can turn the place into a challenge and if you hurt yourself, a bit difficult to get help.

But the view is spectacular.

My advice, go there if you are dressed accordingly and in good shape. Otherwise stop after half a mile, the view is still beautiful.

Take care.

“Stunning Views of Kauai’s Rainforest and Northwest Coast”
Reviewed February 1, 2013

Puuo Kila is on the back rim of Kalalau valley and offers a great panoramic view of the valley and Kauai's northwestern coastline some four thousand feet below. Puuo Kila is at the very end of the Waimea Canyon Drive (Highway 550). It is about a mile after the Kalalau Lookout. Puuo Kila is at the end of the road and it has a better view of the valley in my opinion than the Kalalau Lookout. It was bright and sunny the day we visited (October 30, 2012), and the road was open all the way. Puuo Kila also serves as the trailhead for the Pihea Trail and we walked the first mile of this popular trail. The trail was wide and steep in places and it had even more magnificent views of the coastline, Kalalau valley and the dense forest of Kokee State Park.
