If you are going to or coming from the Waimea Canyon you are likely to pass Island Taco. It is located on the main drag through Waimea. My wife and I decided to stop here on our way back from the canyon.
The restaurant is small but has that quaint island feel. You walk up to the counter, order, have a seat, and the food is brought out. Tables are located under a small covered awning and a few picnic tables with umbrellas are also available. The food is served on syrofoam plates but don't let that stop you enjoying this quiet gem.
We ordered two shrimp tacos which come filled with seasoned rice, shredded cabbage, cheese and salsa. Also we ordered a side of the fantastic cilantro lime seasoned rice. The tacos are not large but definitely hit the spot. All the fillings tasted fresh and the rice was the perfect companion to the tacos. It had that cilantro lime taste without being overbearing. Oh that rice was good... We just had ice water to drink.
Anyhow, the price was reasonable at about $15 for the meal above which we shared. Service was quick and friendly. A great place to grab some great food and plan your next island adventure.
