“Raw Beauty With Few Tourists”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 4, 2013

Raw beauty abounds at this wild and windy beach! It is a GIGANTIC beach so plenty of room for everyone. Lots of campers hanging out. I can imagine more than one set of campers has come back to their camping spot to find their tent in the tree tops. It was very windy the day we were there.

This reminded me somewhat of some of the beautiful lesser traveled beaches in Oregon. We just hung out for hours watching the surf and enjoying having a bit of paradise uncluttered with the typical tourists of some beaches on Kauai.

Cars are allowed but unless you have a 4 wheel drive, I wouldn't attempt it unless you are in the presence of 4 big sumo wrestlers who can push you out of a sand pit. And if you are not in a rental, you will want to take it verrryyyy slowly on the long unpaved road to get to the beach.

“Favorite Beach”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 2, 2013

Kauai has an abundance of fantastic beaches, but this one I think was my favorite. Not easily accessible, but worth the 5 miles on a dirt road. Long drive from most resort areas, but if you have at least 1/2 day, well worth it. Last beach before the NaPali Coast on the west side of Kauai, so views are stunning. Wouldn't try to go in the water in the "winter" months, as the surf was very rough, but great to sit on the beach and listen to the waves. Don't try to drive on the sand unless you have a 4WD pickup truck, but cars can make it to parking areas. And even though it may seem you are driving to the end of the earth, it's a state park, and there are flush toilets!

“Only the very best!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 31, 2013

My wife and I did a multi-island vacation years ago. While on Kauai, we did the adventure to Polihale. You drive on some pretty nasty roads but yes, there was bathroom facilities - in what seemed to be a deserted beach.

Walk up over the sand berm and you are greeted by one of the most amazing, breathtaking sights ever! Sand, as far as you can see with a huge rock face on the far right and water so clear and blue it's simply incredible. Walk far enough in the other direction and you meet stern warnings about a military operation.

We spent the entire day there and saw only about 4 other people. Fabulous.

“gorgeous”

what a lovely beach that is gigantic, scenic, and breathtaking. getting there is an adventure since the road is not paved and can do great damage to a car. lots of people camp there and spend a whole day. quite worth the trip.

“A must do adventure - 4 wheel drive recommended”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 23, 2013

We had a rainy day in lihue so we went looking for sun. We drove to the very end of the highway on the south end of the island. After 5miles of dirt roads we were rewarded with a lovely pristine beach almost to our own. The views are of nihau and the beginning of the na Pali coast. The sand is fine, the sun is always shining and ther are basic park facilities. You can drive on the beach but be careful.
