Sealodge at Princeville
Reviewed March 22, 2013

We stayed in Unit A5 at Sealodge. The unit is right on the bluff overlooking the ocean--second floor--unobstructed views. Sitting on our lanai we watched the whale, seal and turtles. The view itself was worth every penny we paid--which was about $100.00 per night. The complex of Sealodge is dated so if you are expecting a 5 Star hotel for a killer price, don't stay here. I can't imagine staying anywhere else in Princeville because of being able to drink my Hawaiian coffee in the morning sitting on the lanai watching the ocean. And you can leave the windows open at night and hear the waves. Other places in Princeville are newer or better kept, but you would pay dearly for the view. The unit next to us was going through a complete renovation--we were wondering if other units were doing the same. A5 appears to be well loved and probably visited often by the owners as the cupboards were well stocked with items you don't expect to find at a vacation rental. They had other things like ice chests, etc. Although a little faded and old, the bed and furniture were comfortable. The complex has 1 bar-b-q grill so you share the grill or wait your turn--met many interesting people this way so was fun. We used it as a base to explore North Shore.

I've read a lot of the reviews and am a little confused over what we experienced and what others write about. Make no mistake, the ONLY thing this area has going for it is the views. The buildings are literally rotting to death, the other renters (and full time residents) are not what I would want my family around, our rental car got siphoned for 3/4 of a tank of gas and there's a full time couple camping in the parking lot, in a camper that should be the poster vehicle for the Grapes of Wrath. BTW, the locals call Sealodge the Ghetto of Princeville. We checked out early and continued our stay at a hotel.

The condo is really beautiful, the views are incredible! We just loved the small touches that show someone really cares about this. Unfortunately it rained for two out of three days, but we still loved it!
Get some Ahi Poke at the Foodland's Deli (and get their Makai Card for some great savings) and absolutely some Lappert's Ice Cream!

We stayed in unit E2 and were very happy. It was basic (a little musty and dated) but excellent value and the view was fantastic. The booking process was easy through Hestara and all ran smoothly.
We braved the trip to sealodge beach and the track wasn't nearly as bad as the sign post said, anyone in reasonable shape could do it and it was well worth scrambling over a couple of rocks for the end result!
We were very happy that they supplied some beach gear including snorkels and boogie boards in the unit. There were also a few basics, salt, pepper, oil and more in the kitchen which is always good.
I would definitely recommend this place for people looking to self cater somewhere that is great value where you make your own holiday.
Kauai, what can I say? It is epic!!

Room Tip: Very happy with E2 it was ocean front!

This is our second time staying at Sealodge and we have enjoyed both visits!. In Jan 2012 we stayed in F3 and Jan 2013 we staying in B10. We booked both condos through Hestara (www.hestara.com) and had no problems with either booking and working with Geri.

This review is for B10 (http://www.hestara.com/b10.htm). The condo was very clean on arrival and fully stocked with everything you needed including beach chairs, boogie boards, coolers and various spices. We love B10! Why? because it wasn't a ground floor unit and we felt safe leaving the windows open at night, it has also been completely remodeled with hardwood floors, granite counters and stainless steel appliances. The very comfortable king bed was a bonus! (most of the other condos have queens) and the furniture in the living room was very tasteful. Our favorite part of the condo was laying on the twin bed in the punai reading and looking out at the ocean - simply awesome!

All the units are individually owned (as far as I know), so the furnishings and upkeep will be different based on the condo you reserve. For the price of B10 ($140 a night), you get a fantastic ocean view that is unbeatable!

Yes, Sealodge is very dated on the outside, but the inside and the views make up for it, so you won't be disappointed! We will be going back in 2014!

Sea lodge is convenient to restaurants, golf courses and shops. Our room had a gorgeous view of Kalikiwi bay and the lighthouse on the north shore of Kauai. the best thing that happened was Jeannie, the concierge, at (808) 652-8538 to book all your Hawaiian activities, including personal per-arrival grocery shopping. Very convenient having your wine, cheese, crackers and chips in your room allowing you more time to sit on the lanai with your goodies and enjoy the view. Jeannie is a local on Kauai for 28 years and definitely the woman you want to connect with to get you to the right place. She took great care of us and quickly resolved some booking issues.

This unit is almost perfect. The ocean view is fantastic. You get a great view from the punai (two big windows), from the living room, and from the private deck. The interior decoration is a real professional work.

The unit is equipped with many beach gears like umbrella, chair, towels etc which are quite handy for the beach trips on the island. That is one of the best of our trip to have them everywhere we go.

The only problem is every time we left food on the kitchen counter, immediately the tiny ants came. I also saw a small cockroach moving towards the back of the kitchen cabinet. One time, we also saw a (1 inch long) cockroach rushing across the living room floor. Being in the summer time, the cleaning work of this unit should be done more thoroughly. This Sealodge complex is also getting aged. Always request the C8 management company to do a pest control work prior to your arrival.

Other than the ocean view, yet the best of this unit is to count the stars at night on the punai. I have never seen so many stars, so bright and so clear, in my life. Lying on the punai, you have the whole sky right there and hundreds and hundreds of stars right in front of you.

Never leave food on the counter, then you are fine.
