“++Location; -- roosters, construction and road noise”
Reviewed December 31, 2013

I loved the layout of the unit, clean, comfortable and smartly decorated. Location for exploring the North Shore is excellent. Easy drive to Hanalei or to the Regis Hotel for beach time. Property has an inviting pool, altho the hot tub wasn't too hot, more like tepid..

Be aware of the roosters crowing (not as many as past years) and construction sounds starting early morning. Wifi reception is terrible on the property unless you are in close, close proximity to the "welcome center". Guest computers are not available until after the time-share sales activity ends - later afternoon. You can use the other Wyndam properties computers if needed.

There is a no-shoes in the house request, which I appreciated. Bring slippers with you.

When making your reservation ask for an upper unit (lower units are darker and you will hear your neighbor on top...) away from the main road and away from the construction!!!

Room Tip: upstairs! away from main road! away from construction!

Aloha from Beautiful Kauai, Thank you for taking the time to write a review and give some helpful tips to others. We are also looking forward to the completion of our new Clubhouse and hope to be up and running by the end of January. The second pool and two additional hot tubs are up and running now! We came to Kauai on our honeymoon and stayed at the Bali Hai Villas for part of it. I believe the units are wood construction, and not of the greatest quality. We could hear every footstep of our upstair neighbors, and it was more like a herd of elephants. We approached them about possibly being lighter on their feet but realized that it wasn't entirely their fault - footsteps just seemed to reverberate into our place. That said, we could also hear their TV, and the volume wasn't especially loud. We also had the joy of discovering a huge cockroach and giant centipede during our stay. Finally, the decor is a bit dated (no HD TVs, not that we turned them on anyway, and the furniture had a bit of a 70s vibe). I didn't mind this, and for the price, it was totally fair. People were nice, and aside from one cold hot tub day, amenities were good. Also, you have to pay extra for service during the week...

Room Tip: Stay upstairs! It's loud as sound carries through the floor if you're on the bottom floor.

First of all, we are Wyndham owners. We own at the Kauai Beach Villas but wanted to try the Bali Hai Villas. We are regulars to Hawaii and go out there every year. We just rotate islands and stay at what's available. So with that said.... we were not that disappointed in the Bali Hai. Yes, they are building a new Clubhouse and pool which should be very nice (and finished) soon. The property is well maintained and the roosters love it!! They can be loud early but depending on your sleeping habits you may be able to get back to sleep.

We were in building 15 (unit 1526 to be specific). This is similar to the units shown on there tour. A 3 bedroom/ 3 bath with most of the upgrades (one of their Presidential suites). It was an upstairs unit, which I would recommend for the air flow and less noise from tenants. It was also an end unit which gave you a larger patio. It was also far enough away that we did not hear the construction.

The units are nicely appointed with dishes, cooking supplies, kitchens, laundry (always a bonus so you don't have to pack much), and TV's with DVD. It is a home away from home. The pool was nice and there were plenty of chairs and tables to use. There is also an ice machine so you can ice up your drinks or coolers and have cold adult beverages. There are also Bar-B-Que's scattered around the property.... several at the pool.

This is a good place for those who want to be on the North Shore/ Princeville/ Hanalei. Plenty of choices for beaches, snorkeling, or surfing. The Princeville shopping center is close with a Safeway that is loaded with all kinds of supplies.

It is not a 5 star resort but still a very nice place to stay. Again, if you don't want to be bothered by the timeshare pitch, just say no. But if you take the bait, expect to be in there for 2 hours.

Lastly, if you want to take a boat trip to the Na Pali coast, I would recommend paying the few extra dollars and go out of Hanalei. You get to see more of the coast and then when you get back you can either head to the Hanalei beach or back to the Wyndham instead of the 1 1/2 ride home from Port Allen.

Room Tip: Ask for an upstairs end unit. Buildings 15 and 16 are good as well.

Booked this resort through Worldmark, The Club. Worldmark did not mention construction on their website, nor did Bali Hai mention it when they called a week in advance to reconfirm reservations. Our 2 BR unit was immediately adjacent to the construction for the new clubhouse and pool. Did not realize this until we were moved in. Called the front desk and was told they could look into finding another unit, not guaranteed, if we moved out immediately. We could only get another unit in Bldg 5 since Worldmark units were limited (we were in Bldg 11). They said construction would not start till 9 a.m. We opted to stay in the room since it had good mountain views, no units beyond ours- just trees and mountain views from deck- and other reviews indicated variable quality of units. Our unit was nice, and we were usually getting ready to head out by 9. Mistake. Construction started by 8 or earlier. Loud conversations by crew (despite the fact that they were standing next to each other), peppered with profanity. Construction noise loud enough we had to shut windows.

Pushy about attending updates and presentations at check-in and 2 calls once in room. One was about Worldmark owner update and call was at 8 a.m., a ludicrous time to call somebody on vacation! They must have figured we would be awake due to construction. New pool not done, so only one pool/hot tub available for resort. Hot tub overcrowded at night, if you could get in at all. Could not access barbecue near unit as it was on other side of construction fence.

On the plus side, unit was nice and beds extremely comfortable. Kitchen decently stocked. Ants in master bath- appeared to be some old water damage on drywall in corners, and steady line of small ants from there along floor. Did not see them elsewhere and not really a problem, but other people may feel otherwise.

This was second week of vacation, 1st week on south shore. Had I known about construction, I would have tried to extend stay on south shore. Unit would be good location if construction done, but doubt I'd stay here again considering other options on island

We were very excited about coming to our deed timeshare property. We were told upon signing that this was a new construction property. IT IS NOT. It's 20 years old and run down. Wyndham bought it 3-4 years ago and are trying to update it. The rooms pictured were nothing like our room. Everything has gone wrong with our room. Most of it on the day we arrived.
1. Washing machine quit working. They had to come and fix it twice
2. Stove was broken, I fact it shocked my mom dropping her to the ground!
3. Toilet seat broke.
4. Dryer took 3 hrs to dry a medium sized load.
5. Shower /tub in master room wasn't clean
6. No towel exchange. Wash your own
7. Hot tub very dirty. Son got sick because of it.
8. Missing items in the kitchen
9. No fitness room
10. But worst of all the sales team meets in the registration area. VERY LOUD. People trying to get help at the check in desk, talk to the concierge, all of the while pushing sales people all over the place.

We won't be coming back to this resort. Soooo many resorts in Kaua'i I would suggest trying one of them.
The island is fantastic and has so much to offer.

Room Tip: Ask for new remodeled room.

We have stayed many places on the island. This place is by far our favorite. Great resort, two pools, great activities, friendly staff, clean, full kitchens (although their cooking utensils leave a lot to be desired), laundry machines in each unit, no AC but ceiling fans in every room, tennis courts, close to two golf courses.

This property became available via an RCI exchange. It was a great exchange! Our villa #914 was located on the ground floor (minimal steps) and was quiet, spacious and clean. While the supplies upon check-in (bar soap, laundry detergent, dishwasher detergent) were sparse, the staff readily supplied us with extras with just a simple phone call. We were not lacking anything. We avoided the Wyndham 'sales pitch' and once we said, 'no', we were not bothered. Every staff member we met was friendly and willing to assist. Ceiling fans and sliding glass doors kept our unit comfortable. Three areas I might suggest for improvement: (1) the water pressure in both showers was low; (2) the pool temp was quite cool; and (3) the check-in; let me explain. We had flown all day and got our rental car in Lihue around sunset. We drove an hour to get to the resort. The resort has many buildings. At the check in desk, we were given driving directions to get to our building and unit, but when you're fatigued and it's dark, it's really challenging to find your room. I might suggest a staff member be available, if the guest requests, to take you to your room. But we would return to stay here in a heartbeat.
