Our first visit to Kauai and it was worth the visit. The Cliffs was a great location. We stayed from April 8 to 20. Our suite was slightly outdated but very clean. All amenities included. We liked having the beach chairs, food cooler and beach towels.
The pool area was very nice and clean.
The entire visit to Kauai makes us want to book again soon!

Aloha from the Cliffs!

Mahalo for staying with us! We think we have a pretty special place as well. I am pleased that you were able to enjoy the beach chairs, cooler and large beach towels that we have in each of our units for our guests to use while they explore our island home.

We hope that you will return one day!

Again, thank you for staying with us!

Clean, quiet, and an awesome location. We have been here about 5 times now. This year we brought our brother/wife and sister. Things are a little tight when you have people staying in both bedrooms and the sleeper sofa gets used also, but it sure beats a hotel room !!! We used the pool and hot tubs a bunch this time as we were always well spent after the many hikes we went on, Sleeping Giant, the first portion of the Kalalau trail, and this year we also went on the 5 mile trek behind the putt putt a couple miles south of Princeville. They have an awesome little garden, waterfall and buddah area at mile 3.5. Well worth the tramping around. Thank you so much Cliif people. Aloha until next year !

Room Tip: ask for building 8 or 9. they have excellent views/locations.

My family stayed at the Cliffs in September 2012 through our timeshare exchange. We stayed at building two since we did an exchange and not direct owners. The one bedroom was perfect for our family as it had plenty of space for the toddlers to play around and accommodating. There was a full kitchen so we made breakfast every morning. My husband's favorite part was the nearby parking. It was steps from the front door so unloading groceries, souvenir bags, beach items, etc were so convenient. The pool and kids playground was great for days when you just want to stay in. Views of the ocean were beautiful.

Location was prime for North Shore. We enjoyed the seclusion. We through Kapaa a lot and we can't imagine staying there... Way too busy! We wanted peace and quiet after a day of activities.

Highly recommended! This isn't a 5-star so don't expect the Ritz! Grounds and property is very clean and service is realllllky good!!! Maintenance guy came within 5 minutes!!!!

Aloha from the Cliffs,

I was delighted to read your review. I agree, we have a pretty special place here on the North-shore of Kauai. Our staff is great as well! I am happy that you enjoyed your unit and its location. Many of our guests really appreciate our well supplied kitchens making it easy to prepare meals in if they wish. I hope you had a chance to take advantage of our many BBQ grills scattered around the property. I hope your toddler enjoyed our childrens play area!

Mahalo for staying with us and I do hope you will come back again.

Best regards,

We stayed at the Cliffs over Spring Break with our two young boys....we traded into this property through Interval International figuring we've never really stayed on the North Shore (we usually trade into the Marriott at Poipu).... It was a great choice! Our unit, #1310, was an end loft unit and faced towards the ocean, however, we only had glimpses of the water thru the forest…. While it would have been great to have an actual ocean view, our unit's view was just fine. The opposite view (from our spacious bedroom) was of the grounds and mountains, which were fine by us….

We arrived late on a rainy night. I have to admit, it was difficult to find the Cliffs under these conditions, but once i found it, it was easy to navigate during the day… And no, i don't do GPS!! Anyway, i had read some of the units at Cliffs are privately owned…….my initial impression of our unit was it was a privately owned condo----the decor, wood flooring, furnishings, appliances etc looked like a regular condo, not the standard issue furnishings you typically find in a timeshare… We really liked the rustic, yet open layout and brightness of the condo….. It took me about 1.5 days to realize #1310 was actually a timeshare! We were told all the timeshare units at Cliffs look like ours---good to know for future reference….. Overall, our unit was great---spacious, especially with the 2 queen beds in the loft (our kids LOVED their own space), spacious master bedroom with king bed, 2 full bathrooms, fully furnished kitchen , 2 lanais, 3 flat screen TV's, board games and ample windows and sliding doors… Everything appeared to be recently updated (i heard the property did some major upgrading/updating over the past 5 years)---the floor was in good shape, all the windows/doors worked, the appliances were good…. The only areas that looked somewhat dated to me were the bathrooms and kitchen cabinets, but in the grand scheme of things, they were fine and functional… Also, while there were ample windows to light the place up during the day, at night, we felt there wasn't enough lighting, so it was pretty dark in each of the rooms….

The common areas and grounds looked well kept…. The pool was newish with some water features for the kids….. One thing i appreciated was the grounds weren't overdone with too much landscaping as is the case with the Marriott, thus there weren't crews constantly blowing, trimming, cutting etc as is the case at the Marriott….. Also, what we liked about this property was it was a nice balance between a full-on resort and a residential complex-----It wasn't too resorty, yet it had a nice community feel to it, but it wasn't real laid-back and quiet (IE-boring) like a regular condo complex…. Since it was Spring Break, there were a fair number if kids around the pool, which was great for our boys….. An added bonus was there were a few natural attractions within 5 minutes by car----Queen's Bath and Hideaways Beach, both definitely worth checking out. Note: getting to each requires a short hike on rather aggressive trails. Our 2 boys did them just fine, but they're not for the timid.

Overall, i'm rating the Cliffs as a 4 1/2, but TA doesn't allow half points…. I would have given it a solid 5 if we had a full ocean view, the pool was a bit warmer and they didn't charge a $75 "resort fee"… Lack of air conditioning might factor in here too, but while we were there, it was cool and raining much of the time, so it didn't matter. But in hot weather, it might make a difference (tho each room had a ceiling fan, which worked very well at keeping things cool)…. The Cliffs are an excellent lodging choice, especially if you're traveling with family.

Room Tip: If you have family, if you can swing it, definitely try for the loft units. Also, the end units hav...

Aloha from the Cliffs!

Thank you for taking the time to write about your vacation with us. Our loft units do allow for everyone to have their own space. Along with the board games I hope you family was able to visit our lending library in our recreation center. Books for all ages are available for loan.
Our units have under gone recent updates and I happy that you enjoyed the little touches we added such as the wood flooring, granite counter tops and the spaciousness of the two lanais.
I do hope that you were able to enjoy the many waterfalls as a result of the rain during your stay and I hope you were able to see a rainbow or two!

Mahalo for staying with us and we do hope that you will visit us again!

My husband and I have visited Kauai a few times, but it hasn't been for awhile - we were looking for a comfortable, convenient condo with a good view of the ocean in the Princeville area, and feel we definitely got our money's worth at this resort. We booked a one-bedroom, ocean view, 2nd floor unit through Oceanfront Realty (Unit #8205). We were more than pleased with the unit's location - every other building's bedrooms overlook parking lots - Building #8 does not. It means a bit of a walk from where you park, but the privacy offered is worth it. The one-bedroom layout is bedroom at one end, with sliders and a lanai, and the kitchen, dining area and livingroom, with sliders and a larger lanai (and gorgeous view) is at the other end. There's an ensuite bathroom and another bathroom off the living area. Our unit also had full-size laundry facilities (much appreciated!) and very effective ceiling fans in every room. Combined with a beautiful, unobstructed ocean view, lovely asian/island decor and fully outfitted kitchen, we couldn't have asked for a nicer place to stay. We bought fresh fruit from the Hanalei farmers' market (every Saturday morning), prepared breakfast in the unit every morning, and ate out on the lanai while watching for humpback whale spumes. We ate out at the quite a few of the huge variety of restaurants on Kauai (sticking primarily to local and Hawaiian food - lau lau, Kalua pig, chicken long rice, etc. - which we both love and can't get at home) and then prepared our dinners in the unit every night (seared Ahi, Kalbi ribs) after stocking up at local markets and Costco in Lihue. The pool area is very nice, with a separate, small lap pool and hot tub for adults only (what a great idea!), plenty of comfortable seating and shaded areas. There are designated outside smoking areas (another great idea!) and on the bluff overlooking the crashing ocean, covered dining areas with propane bbqs. Although the weather was generally pretty crappy, with 5 of our 6 full days raining (all over the Island - we plan to avoid visiting again any earlier than April!), we still very much enjoyed our stay, and would highly recommend this resort, our unit and the Princeville area - especially in summer, when you can hike the Kalalau trail, snorkel at Ke'e beach, and take a dip in the Queen's Bath.

Room Tip: Any unit in Building 8 - fantastic view and your bedroom doesn't overlook a parking lot!

One can't go wrong spending a week in Princeville! The Cliffs is a fine place to stay. The unit itself, 1 bdrm, 2 bath was nothing fancy but was clean and had all we needed. There was a musty, hadn't been used in a while smell, the evening we arrived but once we were able to get some air through the next day it was fine. It is a nice quiet place which might be a good thing as the units are not sound proof. We had a good idea what our neighbors above us and beside us were doing when they were there. I had requested an ocean view but got what you might call garden/tennis court view. The security fellow who checked us in late was helpful and accomodating as was the gal the next morning. We really didn't have any other interaction with staff. The pool area is nice with plenty of chairs/umbrellas but the pool isn't heated which kept the hot tubs very busy. There is an adult pool & hot tub/kid pool & hot tub but there were a group of families there who abused the rules and took over both. We enjoyed the tennis/shuffleboard/basketball area that are well kept and from what i could see well used. The gym is small but has everything you need for a well-rounded work out. There are extra-curricular activities throughout each day i.e. yoga, hula lessons for a cost but unfortuantely we did't find time to try any of them. We utilized the BBQ area that was clean and well kept. All in all, I would recommend this place to friends travelling to Princeville.

Room Tip: We were ground level and end unit. The grounds feel safe so ground level is fine but I didn't f...

Aloha,

Mahalo for staying with us in March! I am very happy to hear that our Security staff and Front Desk were helpful to you and your family during your late night arrival. I must admit, we do have a great staff here at the Cliffs. Happy to read you and your family enjoyed our newly refinished tennis courts and our recent addition in the fitness center. Thank you for recommending the Cliffs to your friends and we do hope you will visit us again one day as well.

Best Regards,

June

I guess I should start by saying that we usually only stay at Marriott Properties, so that is what we are used to. The location and the staff here are great!! As far as the units go, I feel like I'm staying at an apartment complex. Not a super nice one at that. There is no ac, which is pretty standard for a lot of places on the island, so not complaining just letting you know if you are looking for a place with a/c you'll need to go elsewhere. There are plenty of activities that you can take advantage of here on site and off as well. The concierge will take care of anything you need. The Point on the back side of the property is a wonderful view and you can grab some really nice pictures! The staff here is very attentive and were very friendly, just really not what I am used to. If you are looking for a great place to stay for a great value this is your place. If you are looking for luxury or something upscale, this is not the place for you.

Aloha from the Cliffs at Princeville,
i was pleased to hear our staff and location met your needs but sorry to read that what you really wanted was a full service luxury hotel. In case you did not know, there is a Marriott on the island and their standard hotel rooms which are half the size of our condominium units offer rates similar to ours. Best wishes on your future holiday plans.
