I agree with JPax! Stay away. Go to Hanalei or Poipu. Nothing to see here (except me having the time of my life)

Seriously, parking is VERY limited and you do not want to attempt the hike down if it has been raining. And going in the water in the winter months in not advisable and sometimes just crazy. But if you want a gorgeous view and to feel like you're on the island with just a few other people, make the trek down. My favorite spot on this incredibly beautiful island.

Over the last 25 years we have easily enjoyed Hideaways Beach on over one hundred occasions. We still well recall that it was the beach featured in the prime "Hawaii" travel poster for United Airlines that for years hung in the offices of most travel agents. It enjoys some fantastic combination of deep white sand beach, heavy shade area toward its rear for those who cannot tolerate the Hawaiian sun for long periods of time, lovely view of Bali Hai, gradual water line, excellent snorkeling, good surfing conditions. The western end of Hideaways (below the Puu Poa condo community) contains the lovely sand beach and shaded zone, the eastern end of Hideaways (below the Pali Ke Kua condo community) is rocky and less inviting. As luck would not have it, the paved path to the eastern end is easier to negotiate than the rougher & steeper rustic path to the western end that will challenge those suffering from vertigo.

I love this beach and it has great snorkeling.

I promise you won't like it. Stay away and leave it all to me.

This is not a place to visit when the weather is bad as, even in good weather, the access steps and track are somewhat confronting. During and after rain it can be quite dangerous and broken bones and dislocations are common as attested to by Wilcox Hospital Accident and Emergency!

However, in good weather it is worth the effort as swimming and snorkeling are good and it is a pleasant place to sit and contemplate. It is not very large so depending on the day and its popularity, it might get crowded.

Also there is very limited parking in the small parking area off the street and it is usually full. We advise visitors and those staying locally to walk if possible as there is also no parking allowed on Ka Haku Road, and the large non-public adjacent parking area belongs to the St Regis Hotel. Better to park in the parking area off Lei O Papa Road from where the beach is about a 30 minute walk.

(Very) limited parking and a pretty steep (but short) trail down from the bluff reduce the number of people on this beach, although there were four or five groups of people each time we visited (in late August). We really enjoyed snorkeling here. The climb can get a bit slippery when it's raining, as it is rather steep (the ropes/garden hoses strung along the steepest bits are very helpful).
