We stayed in unit 704. Have to climb 3 sets of short steps, not bad at all, but might be challenging if cant climb stairs. Unit was close to pool and office. Back porch offered a beautiful view of the mountains and a place to eat, even in the rain. The grounds are well cared for. The staff were very attentive. Jessica was very helpful and accommodating. Helped us arrange activities so we could enjoy a relaxing vacation. Going to meet and greet was helpful for first timers to get to know the island and plan ( or not plan) activities. Also, reception office staff informative, very pleasant and professional. Had a perfect vacation. On the quieter side of the island, but close to the charming town of Hanalei. This side of the island gets more rain, but it clears up pretty quick. We cooked almost all our meals, mostly had lunches out, which helped keep costs down. The office has discount card to local supermarket. Be sure to hit local public markets for all your fruits and vegetables. Would definitely recommend to friends and family.

Room Tip: Recommend upper level room, might be a little quiter

Mary 84446,

We are grateful for your kind words about our resort. The view from the uppper units is wonderful, but if stairs are an issue, it is important to request a lower unit. We are glad that you enjoyed our beautiful island and hope that you will be back soon to visit us!

Happy Vacationing!

Great 'cottages', I stay in a 2 bedroom 1800 sq foot building with 2 large bedrooms and a fold out couch in the living room. there is free wi-fi, laundry in the cottage units.I stay along the golf course (404, 403, and 405) and there is always great animal watching while sitting on the deck. The pool area offers 2 full size gas grills. In a great location, near Princeville, easy to get to Kuhio Highway.

Room Tip: 2 bedrooms cottages will sleep 6 comfortably. I love the ones in the 400's that are on the golf...

We stayed in Cottage number 505 and my son and his family were in Cottage 504 which were perfect because they were right by the pool. The kids liked to spend a lot of time at the pool. And the BBQs were by the pool which was very convenient also. The cottages were big and spacious. Very nice. Our biggest complaint were the roosters who crowed at all hours of the day and night but we got used to them. After talking to some people who stayed in a downstairs condo I was glad that we were in a cottage because they complained that you could hear the upstairs people.

Thank you for sharing your experience about your family vacation! I am happy to hear that you got used to our island Roosters. We do keep complimentary earplugs at the front desk for our guests who don't like to hear the Roosters in the morning. We hope to see you again soon!

We just returned from our week at the Makai Club. I had requested unit 704 (as recommended in other reviews), but was disappointed when checking in that it wasn't available. We were given a similar top floor unit in the next building, which would probably have been fine. However, when we arrived at the unit, we found that it had not been cleaned from the previous occupants. Back to the office, the ladies on duty apologized profusely and eventually gave us a free upgrade from the one bedroom condo to a two bedroom cottage. This was the most spacious unit we have ever stayed in, and as RCI members since 1981, we have stayed in many. Both bedrooms had huge adjoining bathrooms as well as king size beds. The sunken living room was huge as well. Our week was wonderful! The staff was extremely accommodating, always greeting us by name and going the extra mile to fulfill any request. The Makai Club is right next to Princeville Center and only a very short drive to Hanelei, with its many shops, restaurants and Hanelei Bay. We spent the week seeing the island of Kauai, and no matter where you are traveling on the island, the distances are not overwhelming. The Makai Club provided a cooler, high quality beach chairs, and DVD movies for its guests. We loved our week on Kauai, and even though we saw most of the major attractions, we can't wait to go back!

Sandy S,

We appreciate you taking the time to share your expereince at the Makai Club. Sometimes things don't go perfectly, as you experienced at check-in. The important thing, is how we do our job when things don't go right. I am so pleased our team showed their Aloha spirit and exceeded your expectations with the upgraded room. We hope to see you again soon!

Great condo to spend a week of self-sufficient vacationing on Kauai. We requested unit 704 (as recommended by other reviewers) and we were pleased when we checked in to see that we had been granted our request. Being in the back corner, top floor, was an excellent recommendation because it is quiet and provides a wonderful view back into foliage and the Napali mountains. We hung out on the lanai every night and played cards - listening to the sounds of the birds and occasional rain showers. Very relaxing.

The unit has been updated and was very clean. It had everything we need to survive the week; including a great kitchenette and nice bathroom.

My only complaint was the bed. I was overjoyed that it was king sized but the mattress needs replacing. Every day my spouse and I woke up with a sore back. And we are a young couple with no back issues. The resort would be wise to invest in some new beds. Otherwise a pretty perfect vacation.

Room Tip: Top floor units. 704 was an excellent unit.

Kelseygabb,

Mahalo for taking the time to share your experience at The Makai Club! I was sorry to hear that the mattress did not meet your expectations. We do have mattress toppers to add to matttresses when they are not just perfect. I do apologize that you were not offered that to help solve your only issue. On your next visit, let us know in advance and we will make the bed up with the topper! We hope to see you again soon!

We stayed in 607 - a one bedroom suite facing the wild foliage (palm trees, lemon trees) and really enjoyed it. The suite has a full kitchen, dining area, living area, bathroom and large bedroom which has a patio door onto the lanai. The suite is very clean and comfortable and everything looks new. There are roosters that crow at various times during the day but none of us found it to be disturbing or annoying. The floors aren't completely soundproof so if you are bothered by sometimes hearing people walking around then get a suite on the top floor or rent one of the cottages. Pool is small but nice. Short driving distance to Foodland and shops (including a really good ice cream shop). I would recommend this place to anyone wanting to stay on Kauai.

Room Tip: If you don't mind the roosters get a room facing the green belt - you can see lots of birds, rai...

We had a great time! The negative reviews below no longer apply as this property is under new ownership, don't be afraid to book. The location was fantastic, the unit we stayed in was great. They have beach chairs and mats that you can check out from the office and grills at the pool if you are looking to cook out. The staff was fantastic and super helpful, our concierge Jesse recommended wonderful excursions and we had a great time. Captain Andy's has beautiful catamaran's and a great staff, the staff at Hanalei Wave Riders was even better if you are looking to surf or stand up paddle. We had such amazing service everywhere. Very, very pleased with this property.
