“The $10 million dollar view.”
Reviewed March 7, 2014

In our opinion this is the best view on the island except the St. Regis Hotel. The bonus here is that one has a full kitchen and lanais on which to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner that is not available in a hotel. The remodel of the rooms is beautiful with stainless steel appliances, new tiled bathrooms, granite counter tops, etc. More is on the schedule to make this a top notch place to stay.

Room Tip: Higher floors have the best view, but all floor have a view of the mountains - many units also view...

Just got back from Kauai where we hiked the kalalau trail and stayed at the Hanalei Bay Resort. We were satisfied with the place, but we knew what it was.

First, this place is NOT A HOTEL, it is a time share and condo resort that rents out the units. There is a beach below, but it is a long, steep walk and not convenient to get to and has a lot of rocks in the water.

We stayed here for two reasons. First was that it was the cheapest option available in the area. Second is we liked the location and the view from every room is outstanding. Remember, you stay on Kauai's north shore because of the beauty and the views. It is far more rainy that the east and south where the beaches are better and more sunny.

The rooms at Hanalei Bay are old and you will find the bathrooms, kitchens, etc to be very dated. The furniture can also be old. If you need fresh new, clean hotel then you should not stay here. If you want priceless views in a good location and don't care too much about furnishings, then you will like it. The pool area is very nice and the tennis courts are great.

When we stayed the restaurant was being renovated so you must eat elsewhere for the moment. If you want to walk to the Regis to eat, it is close but the walk is difficult even if you are in shape. You can drive to a couple restaurants in Princeville in 7-8 minutes or to more options in Hanalei in 15 minutes.

Stay here and save some money or stay at the Regis and pamper yourself although that hotel is dated now. If you want a really nice, modern hotel with outstanding beach and pool then head on down to Poipu and stay at a mega hotel. You'll get more tan, but you won't be immersed in the green beauty of the north shore.

We have been to Hanalei Bay Resort a few times over the years and it just gets better and better. The property is absolutely stunning. This resort is one of the only resorts in Princeville that has direct access to the beach. The beach is shared by the St. Regis Hotel. There is some pretty decent snorkeling at this beach too. The pools, waterfalls and hot tubs on the property are fantastic! It boasts the best views on Kauai. The rooms looked tired and shabby a couple of years ago, but since then almost every room has been renovated. I understand the renovations will continue until every room is done - about mid 2014. The best feature of this resort is that it is not a high rise hotel, but instead it is a quiet, luxurious resort that makes you feel like you are in your own private apartment. Both the one bedroom and the two bedroom units are spacious and tastefully decorated. The two bedroom units are actually very large. A family could live in them and not trip over each other. Every unit also has nice, large balconies, many with stunning views.

Room Tip: Only one 1 bedroom building has ocean views - the Guava building. Almost all of the 2 bedroom build...

We were quite disappointed with this resort.. it simply is not up to par. Our room was in an older building, the décor was reasonable, but the small fridge looked as it had been purchased from a thrift store. The bathroom was old with stained baseboard and a shower that was sticky to operate. The rooms require serious work and we are not picky tourists. We stayed for 3 nights, and one day our room was not even serviced (not even the bed made!!) There is no restaurant, no lobby, and cracked, falling apart walkways and sidewalks. On a positive note, it has lots of tennis courts and quite a nice pool area. Staff woke us one morning at 9 to tell us to check at conceirage for snorkeling spots!

We returned to Hanalei Bay Resort after a 3 year break, and stayed 7 nights in a re-modeled 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo (4121/22). The remodel and updates of Vacation Owner Association units has progressed nicely. We were very impressed with the luxury feel ....the kitchen had been completed with GE Profile stainless appliances and granite countertops. As a ground unit, it had been finished with new tile flooring throughout (rather than carpeting). The master bath was nicely redone with a large, tiled, step-in shower with seat. High end mattresses were new and on all beds. Flat screen LCD televisions and improved WiFi were now in place, facilitating streaming Netflix movies from our iPad. Guests will appreciate the "million dollar" views, on par with the neighboring St. Regis...and the grounds and landscape are lush and meticulously maintained. The tennis courts were looking great, and active. The pools, and renovated filtration were equally nice. We enjoyed several evenings at the BBQs cooking, and socializing with guests who were also equally impressed with the property. Work was busy and evident on the lobby/restaurant/bar construction, and should be completed this summer. The management and staff were involved, active, and responsive. We will be returning!

Room Tip: When booking vacation owner association rooms, determine if a remodeled unit is available. 3rd floo...

So disappointing! Yes, the grounds are beautiful ! Yes, the view is amazing! Units are old, musty smelling with much upgrading and ant control needed. First put in 5107 and 5108. Air conditioners dripping brown liquid on master bed, stove top not attached to bottom of the stove, ants in suitcases and mastered. Tub will not hold water, peeling wall paper. We were moved to 8123,8124.
Much better unit however we woke up to ants all over the kitchen counter and in the dish washer. Yuck!
Much work needed at this resort to refurbish the units and maintain ant control. Management really needs to step up .

Room Tip: Never stay the the main level . 3rd floor. No ants hopefully.

We rented unit 4204 from the Parrish Collection in Kauai. The resort is stunning and although they had a recent fire and are re-building their restaurant and lobby, the views and people make up for that. It is also situated on an unbelievable beach with incredible views and access to the St. Regis next door for cocktails and food in the interim. We adored our stay even though the weather was very rainy the entire time we were there. The check in process was easy. The HBR staff were kind and lovely. The grounds, pool, hot tub and tennis facilities are top notch. Now to our unit . .
Since the resort is made up of owners' units and others - we rented a less expensive unit from the Parrish Collection. It was a lock off from a 2 BR. The room was not at all what we had hoped for since we still spent over $1100 after taxes and cleaning fees. The carpet was shag, furniture old, room musty, bathroom had strange smells and a broken toilet, the promised "kitchenette" was just a mini fridge below the tv inside of an armoir (seems like a total fire hazard) and the furniture on the deck was cheap and plastic. We were fine not having housekeeping but the room just felt musty and old. This maybe wouldn't have mattered if the vacation was less rainy but we had to spend a decent amount of time in there. I feel Parrish wanted to rent the unit and cared less about our happiness. They had plenty of time to call 3x during our visit and remind us of the checkout procedure. Prior to booking they only had 1 image of the beds and the gorgeous views. I will NEVER rent a place again without further details of the amenities. We made the best of our stay and enjoyed all that HBR had to offer but I would suggest being careful about who you rent from and question every detail. It's your vacation. You owe it to yourself.
