“Gorgeous property, amazing location”

We loved our stay at HBR. The grounds are gorgeous and the view of Bali Hai is breathtaking. The property is going through some renovations, but what they have already done is great. The new furniture is gorgeous, and the new beds are very comfortable.

We love the natural bottom pool and the easy beach access! Can't wait to come back this summer when the bar and restaurant will be redone!

My husband and I booked Hanalei Bay Resort for our honeymoon. We arrived in the evening and the resort was poorly lit. We had to walk around for quite some time trying to find the front desk. As we were walking we were almost attacked by 3 feral cats that were fighting. There was also a massive rat that ran in front of us. Disgusting.

We were taken to our room which was dingy and tired. The building was run down and the room smelled like bug spray. We had 2 bathrooms in our 2 bedroom suite, and both were extremely run down - paint peeling from the walls, the tubs were small and stained. Our bedroom was basic. the bed was extremely hard and uncomfortable. In the morning when we awoke there were dead ants on the ground all along the floor by the entrance.

Needless to say that we were so disgusted that we checked out first thing in the morning and booked a room at the St. Regis Princeville which has been a dream come true. I highly advise against staying at the HBR, especially if you are booking through a time-share.

Beautiful views and beautiful grounds with tropical flowers and foliage. Orchids dotting the grounds left from previous guests and owners are a great added touch. We stayed in a ground floor renovated 2BR lockoff unit. Would guess unit is about 1600 square feet, and felt spacious and airy with new furnishings, but also plenty of open space. King bed in master, 2 doubles in 2nd BR and queen sized Murphy bed in LR, and high end kitchen appliances with granite coutertops. 3 lanais with very comfortable outdoor furnishings helped enhace the breathtaking views. 8 tennis courts for complimentary use and lessons available (we didn`t use the tennis courts, but they looked to be in great shape). Now for the not so great: lobby and restaurant are closed for complete overhaul. Did not affect our stay, but beware if considering staying in a unit without a kitchen. Construction noise not a major factor for us, but we had building farthest from lobby. I am confident this will become a great place to stay on the north shore once construction is finished, until then, cannot give it more than 3 stars.

Room Tip: Higher floors provide better views, but beware there are no elevators. Definitely ask for upgraded u...

We absolutely loved staying at Hanalei Bay Resort. Our condo was a bottom unit facing the bay without any obstructions. It was amazingly beautiful. The staff was friendly and helpful, the condo was very spacious and clean and the lagoon pool was perfect for all my kids. I would recommend this place to anyone wanting a luxurious visit to the beautiful island.

Room Tip: Most have great views but the Plumeria buildings have the best ones.

We have been owners at Hanalei Bay since 2002. With our most current visit during the 2013 holidays, we felt a renewed spirit as the reconstruction and renovation are continuing apace. We stayed in a second floor refurbished unit; our usual preferred units with views of the bay were undergoing renovation. The appliances are first-rate (GE and Cuisinart), the furniture is comfortable, and the feel of the place is simply marvelous. Of course, we miss the Happy Talk Lounge and Bali Hai Restaurant, but they will be reopening in 2014. They'll be managed by the owner of Kalypso in Hanalei and the plan is to keep prices affordable (unlike the hulking St. Regis Princeville Hotel next door). Overall, this older resort is becoming younger. A terrific place to stay for a few days, a week, or a lifetime.

Room Tip: First floor units have walk-out access from the lanai.

We loved our stay in this resort. It has the most beautiful views. I would like to make a special mention of Diane Concierge desk . She made perfect plan for our trip. The only disappointment was Tennis racket rentals which are 10$ for a day.

Room Tip: We stayed in Ginger. Take something which has a view of ocean.

The bad reviews could only come from people who book HBR as Hotel or Timeshare offering. You will most likely be put in the older part of the hotel that may not be upgraded and those rooms are sometimes very dreary. You have no choice in which room you will staying in with a Hotel booking, and sometimes a random placement with timeshare.

Please do yourself a BIG favor and rent the condos to insure you have the very best rooms and experience there. Google: Aloha Condo, Perrish Collection, Summit Pacific. Each site gives a selection of condos at Hanalei Bat Resort with photos and detailed information on each unit, all pricing information and you will get that unit and it will be well maintained and will have everything you will need. The prices are very good and offer many types of units from studios to 3 bedroom condos. It is a mush better deal for longer stays because there is a cleaning fee
added.

You will notice that almost all the great reviews come from people staying in the condos. Trust that. I have been coming there since the 1980's because it is so wonderful. It has old growth gardens, beautiful pools , breathtaking views and ideally located.

Let HBR be your base camp for exploring this wonderful island. There are no luxury amenities and hotel services and if that is your thing there are plenty of those Hotel on the island.

Room Tip: Book a specific condo to fit your needs and see what you are getting.
