My wife and a local friend were attending the Kauai Film festival last night at the St. Regis in
Princeville and thought it would be fund to have a drink and some pupus on the outside patio of the upper stairs lobby bar and take in the views and the sunset. We arrived about 5:20pm and found a table and the end of the patio with two chairs. I asked a server if we could have one more chair brought over - he shrugged it off and said I should ask our server - which I did. He said it wasn't possible - ok then I asked if he could please take our orders. 15 minutes went by and no server. I went inside to the bar and asked if I could place and order and have it brought out to our table- no was the reply, but "your server will be right out". Again no server. Finally another server showed up and took our drink order. 20 minutes later no drinks even though the server was nearby. We finally felt completely blown off and it as time to go downstairs to the festival. As we were leaving ;the manager asked if we enjoyed our time. I told him what happened and to his great credit he apologized and invited us to come back after the festival to be his guest for dinner. This was very much appreciated- but by then we wanted to get back to Hanalei, so we did take up his generous offer.

We stayed at the Regis for six nights in October for our honeymoon. We had very high expectations and they were certainly met!

Our wonderful experience started immediately when we pulled up to the expansive and grandiose valet area. The valet and butler staff at the Regis were incredible from that moment until we bid farewell. Always asking genuinely interested questions about our plans for the day and evening and how our dinner was. They were almost like a second concierge.

The hotel is situated on the luscious and tropical North Shore. As soon as you step into the lobby (during the day) you'll take in the beautiful coastline with mountains, it's just stunning.

We were treated to an upgrade to an ocean view room with Starwood membership and loved our room. We thought the bathrooms could have used an upgrade but they were still spacious and nothing was wrong with them. We had an issue with our cable but they came immediately and offered a free movie rental.

Dining: We really enjoyed breakfast on the terrace. We sprung for the buffet a few mornings, which was delicious. Staff here.. again.. was great. We also ate at Kauai Grill one night and had a nice meal.

Pools: Two thumbs up for the pool staff with a shout out to Kaipo and his coworkers. These guys were awesome! Unlike the odd, unspoken process at the four seasons in Maui, we were easily able to get a chair in a nice spot every day at the pool. The beach is not all that great at this resort but the pool makes up for it. Plus, there are plenty of beautiful beaches closely.

Spa: We enjoyed a couples massage one morning and definitely recommend going for a treatment. It appeared that this spa is recently renovated as everything looked brand new. Locker rooms were very high-end and the treatment itself was top notch.

We will tell anyone planning a trip to Hawaii to try and stay here! Looking forward to the next special occasion to plan another trip there!

If you're looking for a relaxing getaway, this is a great hotel to stay at. It is a bit expensive, but it's a very nice, clean resort. Food and drink is expensive as well, but there are plenty of places a short drive down the road to explore if you're not in the mood to spend $17 on a drink or $25 for a hamburger. Employees were all very nice and helpful from the front desk to the people at the pool/beach. Also, if you're looking to do any extras while staying here, the front desk were more than helpful in directing us with the spa, local golf courses, etc. Again, on the pricey side, but if you're looking for a comfortable and quiet resort, the St. Regis should do just fine!

Room Tip: Ocean view room was very nice

It's a beautiful setting and a great hotel. The view is enchanting....can't imagine a better one. Thank you to several great employees who made our stay so special.....Kaipo, Paige and Candyce at the Nalu Kai Grill and Bar were especially kind. And, to Erin at the front desk.....don't know how to thank you! And, thanks also to Therese at the St. Regis bar who took great care of us. And, the valet team is the best! Every employee we encountered was warm and professional. It is very hard to leave this happy place. Our room was very comfortable and quiet....the beds are heaven! Love the bathrooms with nice counter and the special glass window. Look forward to returning as soon as possible!

Room Tip: Ocean with pool view is nice!

Its difficult to complain about anything in Kauai. The St Regis has a great location but is dated and needs work in a variety of ways. You can overcome this with great service, but we got given an obviously bad room, more "premium wall" than "premium ocean". We were at the intersection to another wing that juts out, so from the bed, wall not ocean is what you see. We were delayed 4 hours on our flight and did not have the energy to go through more delay before showering and eating, we shouldn't have had to, but we should have dealt with it then. The hotel was not full, so why they were giving out this room makes no sense to me. None of the rooms seem to have lanais or seating outside the room. The front desk weren't interested in the answer when they asked about our stay at check out, not sure why they asked when we told them we were not happy with the room. Have them point the room out on a map, don't be at a junction to the next section that juts out. Floors 6 and 7 near the center look like the best. Try the condos nearby

Aloha Tripstaken,

Thank you for taking the time to post a review about your stay at the St. Regis Princeville Resort. We are disappointed that your stay was anything less than exceptional. We take all feedback very seriously and I apologize that your room was to satisfaction. All 200 regular rooms do not have balconies as this was the way the Resort was originally built into the Mountain range. We currently have a selected number of rooms located on ground floors that have balconies or outside seating. I have shared your comments with the Front Desk Manager regarding the front desk check out procedure as our staff normally genuinely cares about our guests stay. We strive to provide the most bespoke service possible and we truly try to create an uncompromising stay for our guests. We hope you will allow us another opportunity to demonstrate our signature hospitality and genuine Aloha spirit in the near future.

Wow! The Willy Loman character at the concierge desk tonight at 6:35 told us that the hotel's best restaurant, Kauai Grill was "fully committed". When we returned to our room 2 minutes later, we called the restaurant directly and they offered us two open times for dinner reservations.
And yes, the hotel does know it is someone's birthday, today.
However, the other concierges have been helpful.
Very inconsistent service, the robotic, "Is there anything else I can help you with?" seems well intentioned, but programmed. I'll fill in more later.

Room Tip: Plan ahead and get a room with a terrace -- either monarch suite or by the pool.

This hotel rocks. We loved the service the food and the location. You could snorkel , paddle, surf, swim just steps away. The pool service was outstanding and it was a way to just relax and kick back. Rooms were very sound proof and we loved the size of the rooms. Our room was on the first floor by the pool. I was a little bit hesitant that there might be too much noise. Happily I was wrong. It was quiet even when the pool was full. Doors provided great barrier for noise. Breakfast buffet was everything you could think of to eat and the scenery was breath taking. We hated going home!!!! We shall be back!!!!

Room Tip: By the pool with the gorgeous pool.
