My husband and I stayed at this Westin property in January for 9 nights recently. The property is absolutely Beautiful with lovely Flowers and Superb Landscaping, several pools and several hot tubs. We really enjoyed having a kitchenette and the numerous Stainless Gas Grills around the pool where we could picnic and grill our own food! And there is a really picturesque uncrowded beach a short walk away. The Princeville area is really lush and green and they have a shuttle bus that will take you 2 miles to the St. Regis for access to their Beach and a great walking path to jog or run on. We looked at several other resorts while we were on Kauai and when we return we will definitely stay at the Westin again.

One or two bedroom suites are spacious and beautiful. Adequately stocked kitchen with almost everything you will need. The resort staff is efficient, friendly and truly makes guests feel welcome. Great HD flat screen TVs, Bose clock radio systems, and fast WiFi connections.

The resort is on a high bluff overlooking the Pacific. The views are mostly overlooking the pools or golf course with the ocean in the background. Princeville and the north shore of Kauai are lush, peaceful and dramatic. One of the reasons it is lush is the frequent rain. If you are a golfer, bring an umbrella. The small town of Hanalei and beautiful Hanalei Bay are only a few miles away.

Beach access is on a shuttle operating every hour to the St. Regis Hotel. This schedule is very awkward. There is also a steep, muddy trail that descends the bluff by the resort and leads to a beach but it is hard to carry anything with you on the trail. The best way to go to the beach is by car. There are several beautiful spots within a 30 minute drive of the resort, but if you want a place that you can walk to the beach easily, this resort is not for you. If having the ocean as a backdrop and taking a car when you want a swimming beach is OK, then you will love all the other advantages of this resort.

Some reviews mentioned the chickens and roosters. They are abundant, beautiful, interesting and were no problem for us at all. We had a suite on the ground floor. Parking is abundant and easy. The restaurant serves very good food at fair Hawaiian prices.

Room Tip: Upper floors are preferable to ground level.

We had a 2 bedroom suite which had everything you need. Very clean, nice furnishings, good mattress and pillows, as well as supplied with coffee and condiments. Fridge, microwave, dishwasher, all the utensils but no oven. Nice robes, safe in room. A little pricey.
Great view from the bluff overlooking the ocean. Different pools, restaurant, bar, and other facilities. All the staff was efficient and friendly. Apparently Leo Dicaprio, Toby Maguire and the Clintons were here, so it must be highly recommended.
The complaint about the roosters is legitimate. They start crowing before dawn, so get used to it, or wear earplugs.
Princeville is a beautiful area with many great beaches. Relax and enjoy.

This hotel is well-situated although one needs to shuttle to the St Regis to get to a beach which may be an inconvenience for families with young children. The hotel has a reasonably good restaurant and is close to a golf course. The pool area is very nice but needs more pool-side umbrellas. I love the washer-dryer being available allowing for less packing. I cannot say enough on the service by the staff. I wish we knew that there was a strip-mall nearby where one could listen to music and have more choices of food at night since the Westin is pretty much snoozing after early evening.

Room Tip: Get the ocean view.

Aloha John C: Thank you for your review. As the resort is located on an ocean bluff, there is no direct access to the beach. We are fortunate to be located near some of the most beautiful beaches on the island and the resort provides guests with a Beach Guide that outlines the nearby beaches in addition to the St Regis Princeville beach. The guide provides information on the popular activities these beaches are known for, whether it be surfing, snorkeling or building sand castles. It also provides driving directions to these beaches and ocean safety information. Mahalo for recognizing the service you received from the staff. We hope you will visit again in the near future. Stay Well!

Good:
- The Westin is in a beautiful location, and the scenery is stunning.
- Rooms are nice (I would compare them to Sheraton Waikiki) and come with everything you'd need for a week-long vacation -- including a washer/dryer, fridge, dish washing soap, even a vacuum! (I'm assuming for parents with messy kids...)
- They offered us a free breakfast buffet in exchange for not having our room serviced. We took them up on this offer since I hate having strangers in the room when we're not there. The breakfast buffet was great (pancakes, eggs, bacon, etc.).

Not Good:
- Bathrooms could use a little updating -- they have shower curtains, which always strikes me as motel-ish, and towels need replacing (bleach + time = thin, scratchy towels)

Bad:
- There are TONS of chickens on the property, just running wild. A few chickens tried to drink my cocktails while we were lounging poolside, and at 5 a.m. each morning we were woken up by not one, but many cock-a-doodle-doos! Not cool. We asked for earplugs after being woken up the first night, but the front desk person said that they don't carry them, and that we might get used to the noise after a week. She said "I don't even hear them!" (lies!)
- They have a shuttle to the St. Regis, but it only runs once every hour! (WHAT?!) I can't fathom why. The Four Seasons on Lana'i runs a shuttle every half hour between the two locations.

Room Tip: Don't stay on the first floor unless you love chickens!

Great place for families. Smaller than other Westin resort villas, so pools are not crowded and the hotel has the feeling of a smaller resort. Beautiful setting, grounds well taken care of. Would highly recommend this resort for families with small children as the villas have plenty of space and kitchenettes. All staff very friendly and relaxed.

Room Tip: Ask for buildings 4, 6 or 7 for good ocean front views and quieter rooms.
