“Clean, quiet and comfortable”
Reviewed May 30, 2013

With the exception of the early morning crowing of the roosters, this place is mostly quiet and relaxing.

Unfortunately I was asked to wait far too long for a sub-standard suite, where the curtains were bedraggled and the view of the baking hot carpark facing the blazing afternoon sun were a huge disappointment on my Special Birthday. This Villa was not to my liking at all.
I requested another Villa away from the carpark as I wished to use my verandah considering I was here for a week. Staff finally agreed to my request to put me on the cooler, view side of Block 5.
Ask for EVEN number rooms if you are staying in Block 5, otherwise you get the carpark vista.

Airconditioning was very noisy, like my last visit, but I used the fan this time. Dishwasher did not leak.
Coffee maker worked fine and the maid service daily was very useful and well executed. Don't bother with the Green Option for the sake of $10.00.

Grounds are immaculate. Pools sparking. No problem with others claiming lounges early with their towels. Car parking was no problem.
Porters and driveway attendants were very efficient.

Be wary of doubling up on room charges. We had pre-paid for our (2) villas but were charged again on checkout, so we left the place unsure the Westin had reversed the second (very substantial) set of charges. Quite unsettling.
St Regis for me next year.

Aloha Marcothepolopony,

Mahalo for choosing The Westin Princeville and for taking the time to share your experience with us. We are pleased to hear that your stay was mostly quiet and relaxing. However, we were concerned to hear about a potential double charge and encourage you to reach out to us at 808.827.8700 so that we may have a closer look. We would also like to personally inspect the condition of the room in which you were originally assigned. We look forward to hearing from you.

We love Princeville and love Kauai, but the rain can ruin your plans and for us, it rained 4 of the 6 days.. The first day it was beautiful, but that was arrival day, so didn't get to enjoy it too much. Our check in was a little slow, but we were a little early, so we understood. Jana was wonderful and help us get a nice room. We also came on a special through Starwood, and we were given the choice of upgrading, which we did and a time share tour, which we said yes to. It is a very nice resort. Not too big and not too small. The market sold Steak, Chicken and Fish, which we BBQ and was wonderful. We ate at the resort twice, although expensive, it was very good. We bought their explorer package, so we will come back. We stayed in a one bedroom, which was plenty big. The bed was wonderful and we all slept well. The staff was very nice and we never had any issues. Our 9 year old loved the pools, even in the rain. I would recommend coming in the summer time or late spring, and hope the rain stays away.

We stayed at this property through a timeshare exchange into a one bedroom unit. This is a very large property and the rooms were very nice. The property is located on a cliff along the coast but does not have immediate access to the ocean. Views vary depending what building and what side of the building. There are at least 5 buildings and multiple pools. The main pool has bar and snack service which is somewhat pricey. The staff was excellent handling all and any problems and appeared generally anxious to please.

During my week stay I had 3 maintenance issues with the room. This was the only reason I did not give them 5 stars. It should be noted that the issues were quickly corrected with a call. This is a property I would definitely recommend for anyone wanting to stay in the Princeville area.

Aloha ArtP: Thank you for recognizing the staff and their efforts to provide excellent guest experiences. The property is located on the ocean bluff in Princeville and is 200 feet above the Pacific Ocean. Although the resort does not have direct beach access, the staff provides beach guides that are readily available for our guests which outline the number of beautiful beaches within a short driving distance. The beach guide details the features of these beaches and whether it is good for snorkeling, surfing, building sand castles and more. In addition, it outlines the facilities available which differ at each beach, lifeguard information and driving directions. The St Regis Princeville also provides access to their beach (pool usage is not allowed) for The Westin Princeville guests and The Westin Princeville shuttle will provide transportation. I apologize that you had a few maintenance issues in the room and am delighted that we were able to quickly resolve them for you. We hope to welcome you back on your next visit to the islands. Mahalo!

We booked six months prior and requested an upper floor ocean view. Instead we got a bottom floor with a view of the grills. We complained but they said there were no higher rooms available and that others who booked further in advance were given priority. They did give us another bottom floor that was more private with a sliver of a view but the chickens made the lanai completely unusable. Then we spoke with another couple who requested a higher floor at checkin and got it. So much for priority being based on advance request! They say all rooms are ocean view but is just not true. We had no experience of even being near the ocean. Seems the Westin needs to be more transparent about how they assign rooms and lower rooms with no view should be offered at lower prices. Given the option we would pay more for an ocean experience. I'm sure it could be a nice place to stay but only if you know what you're getting.

This was the nicest place we have ever stayed. The on sight dinning was good but not the best meal we had during our stay in Kauai. Our unit had a full kitchen and laundry facilities. The latter came in handy when my wife was pulled into the surf by a big wave and needed to run her clothes through the wash.

The bed was very comfortable and overall quiet. The only problem with noise was one morning the people in the unit next door must have put their tennis shoes in the dryer at 5:30 AM.

The pools and hot tubs were very nice. The grounds were very well maintained. All the staff were very friendly and helpful.

My only complain was the first night we arrived after dark and the signage for the buildings was a little hard to read. Also some units do not have any parking near by.

It is located on the Northside of the Island which did seem like a long drive coming back from the South side of the island late at night. However, Kauai is not that big and even the longest drive took us less than an hour. Some times of day the Kapaa area is quite congested and can add a lot of time to the drive. On a Saturday it took us 30 minutes just to get from one side of town to the other in in Kapaa so becareful returning to the airport from the resort.

We completely enjoyed our week at this Westin Resort! It was our first trip to Kauai, and we were not disappointed with the island or the resort. Even though the property was full during our stay, it never felt crowded. Our stay was stress free and totally relaxing. The staff were friendly, efficient, knowledgeable, and professional - from the front desk to the concierge to the grounds crew. It was obvious that the hotel was staffed to ensure guest satisfaction. The grounds are spectacular and we enjoyed all 4 adult pools - one infinity pool faces the ocean and has an adjoining whirlpool. The children's pool was adorable and families were enjoying their stay. (Check their web site for a great view of the grounds.)

The rooms are very comfortable and equipped with kitchen and laundry facilities. There are also numerous outdoor grills if you want to BBQ. We opted for the restaurant fare, and weren't disappointed. The Sunday brunch was a perfect end to our wonderful vacation. Thanks Westin for showing that excellence is still an option.

Room Tip: This is such a beautiful property, you might enjoy the views of the pool and grounds or ocean from a...

Dear ajohnsonColorado: Thank you for choosing to visit Kaua’i and to stay at The Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas. It is nice to hear that you enjoyed your first visit to our beautiful island. Our resort is spread out over 19 acres with 7 guest villa buildings that are only 2 or 3 stories high. This provides the relaxing sprawling resort feel and our guest do not feel over crowded. The 4 pools are spread out throughout the property and include the main two level pool, kid’s pool, a quiet pool and a pool close to the edge of the ocean bluff. Our guests are able to choose any one of the pools to enjoy their time with us. Nanea Restaurant offers delightful island inspired cuisine and a very nice Sunday brunch. With the fully equipped kitchens in the villas and 20 BBQ grills at the resort, our guests also have the option to enjoy cooking. The Princeville Market offers freshly marinated steaks, chicken, fish, vegetables and side dishes for purchase that make it easy for our guests to BBQ a full meal for family and friends. Mahalo for taking the time to review our Resort.

We used 2 connecting condos May 2013. One condo with a king bed and full kitchen, the other with a double bed, pull out sofa, and kitchenette. Maybe if we had had a promotion like some of the other reviewers I would have liked the property a bit more....but we paid full price and were unimpressed.
Because we went to Princeville to be close to the activities we wanted to do in Hanalei, the location was excellent. There are very few hotel choices in Hanalei.
Our condo did not get maid service until I called to ask for it, and found out that the Westin gives $10.00 off coupons for the onsite mini market/restaurants if you opt out of maid service. Too bad no one told us that when we checked in - it left us feeling nickel & dimed at an expensive resort.
The pool area has a senior citizen vibe even though there are many families with young kids. Our 20 and 25 year old sons didn't care for it and spent very little time on the property.
The most disappointing dining experience of our week long stay on Kauai was at the Nanea restaurant in the hotel. The atmosphere was like a dressed up Applebee's, the menu weird, and the food very expensive - and not very good.
Overall I can't reccommend this property for anything other than its location.
