“Excellent resort”
Reviewed December 20, 2011

Stayed there Thanksgiving 2011 for a week. Had a studio villa and had refrigerator, stove top, microwave, and washer/dryer. W/D made for a very light suitcase pack as we carried on our bags all the way from Alabama for a week. Very nice resort with excellent on-site amenities and very friendly staff and helpful concierge(s). Have an onsite small grocery to pick up things you left at home as well as drinks, etc. Very reasonably priced too! There is a large difference in the views between the different buildings and rooms (we stayed in building 3 close to ocean end....great view) and recommend if possible to check an aerial view on the web to help selection. Some units would not have any view at all except parking lot. Grounds well kept and chickens everywhere! No mongoose we were told.
Try the Sunshine Helicopter ride leaving from the airport just 3 miles away. 55 minutes and a great smooth trip and view. If possible, get a front seat (first class) or at least if in back try for a window. Two seats in back are in center and view is kind of obstructed and picture taking has to be helped by window passengers. Also try the restaruant at the end of the lighthouse road close to the airport area.
One more item...when we arrived our stove top was cracked (looked like just broken!) so we called to report it so as not to be charged of course. They immediatelly came up, took pictures of it, called back several times to schedule a repair time, replaced it while we were out, then called back again to be sure we were satisfied.

Room Tip: Look at aerial view found on web (maps on Google, etc. are NOT up to date on this for some reason) a...

My husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon, second of our three stops in Hawaii. This hotel was a splurge for us but it was worth it.

Our room did get upgraded, we had a washer/dryer, jacuzzi tub, stand up shower, full kitchen, living space. If I realized that we were getting a washer/dryer (my husband did all the booking), I wouldn't have packed as much--you don't need much in Hawaii anyways. There are also grills you can use for cooking, if you choose.

We didn't spend too much time at the pool, but it was really nice. The fitness center wasn't an additional cost, which we did use once. The area is beautiful but staying in Princeville is more remote. If I were to go back to Kauai, I would stay in Poipu only because if you plan on exploring more, you'll be in a better starting point. Princeville and Hanalei were beautiful but I feel like we could have visited it in one day.

Room Tip: I think all the rooms here have to be pretty amazing.

The Westin spoiled us rotten. The property is beautiful and the pools are just spectacular. The rooms are pristine and modern with VERY comfortable beds and pillows. We stayed in a deluxe studio villa and found it perfect for two. It sleeps up to four, but it would not be the romantic trip we had. The staff was SO responsive, polite, enthusiastic and made sure all of our every needs were attended to. They have a little store on premises where they DON'T overcharge you and have everything you might need. Free internet access and valets to handle everything. I like this place a LOT! Highly recommend. We got a hotwire deal, so we weren't even sure where we would end up, but this was the creme de la creme.

Room Tip: We did not get a premium room and it was still head and shoulders above other places like the Hanale...

Let me start by saying that my husband and I are Marriott Timeshare owners and usually spend the first week in December at the Maui Marriott Lahaina Villas. This is also our first stay in Princeville. The staff is not as friendly as Marriott. Various staff (facilities personnel, maids, the guy who lights the tiki torches, bar employees) do not acknowledge you when you walk by. No hello or good morning. They don't even notice you and that is pretty hard to do considering my husband is 6'4" and 225. The rooms are clean though and decorated nicely. Better than staying in a small hotel room. The Marriott units are larger than the Westin units at least at this property but again much better than a small hotel room with no kitchen.

Beach: There is no direct beach access from the resort. Unless you want to trek up and down a steep walkway with all of your beach ware. You can use the beach at the St. Regis but that is a mile and half up the road. Shuttles take you back and forth but they only run on the hour...crazy. Not every 15 minutes but once every hour.

Dining: They don't have a restaurant that serves breakfast. You have to either buy something at the little "market" on site, make it in your villa, or go somewhere else. The small bar by the pool serves pupus at happy hour.
Places to Avoid: The Tavern. Terrible service. Terrible food. This is a Roy Yamaguchi restaurant so very surprised that it was so bad. CJs-horrific. This was formerly called Chuck's Steakhouse. Nice servers but straight out of the 80's with a waste of time salad bar and flavorless fish.
Places to Go: Nanea is the restaurant at the Westin that serves dinner. It's nice. I had the seafood chowder that was really good. The bread is wonderful nice and warm and soft. Hubby had the fish of the day. He said it was just average. St. Regis brunch is terrific and the view of Hanalei Bay is beautiful. The spread is not like the Monarch Beach St. Regis but still very good. The Bar at the St. Regis is really nice and spacious and the perfect spot for watching the sunset. Bar Acuda in Hanalei is good for dinner. It is tapas style so don't expect a large meal but the tastes are good. Beet Salad was my favorite. Pau Hana Pizza and Bakery in Kilauea has great homemade soups and Gluten Free Pizzas. Nice girls working there. Very friendly. We also liked the Garden Cafe at Common Ground which has some really good fish tacos and a yummy lentil side dish.

That's my two cents for this trip. Hope it is helpful.

Room included kitchen and laundry which was a huge plus given the hiking and activities on the island. So nice to be able to clean the mud off our clothes and cook dinner on the grills provided. Rooms were very nice and up to date. However the walls are fairly thin as others have noted...we could smell our neighbor's breakfast and hear them cooking/clinking glasses as they washed dishes. Also, bathroom has neat interior shutters from tub overlooking the room and subsequent view but carries noise into the room if you are trying to sleep while someone else showers. Roosters are everywhere and start crowing around 8am, however they are not unique to Westin (they are everywhere as result of 1992 or 1993 hurricane). Pool area is beautiful but the property is high on a cliff and you can't access beach. Westin has rights with St. Regis to use their beach, however, so you can get to te beach but not without taking a shuttle a mile or so down the road. (not a big deal but don't come expecting to walk from your room straight to the beach). Staff was friendly and knowledgeable and hotel serves as great home base for exploring north shore of the island. We will definitely stay here again.

This resort is a solid 4 star property. Shuttle bus takes you to and from the beach at the St. Regis hotel. Chairs are provided right on the beach. Units are modern and spacious.

Room Tip: Norht side rooms have better view of ocean.

My girlfriend and I stayed here for 5 days in Nov 2011. We loved having the small kitchen (with dishwasher, dishes, fridge, etc.) and washer/dryer. They give you a couple rounds of dishwasher soap, one clothes-wash detergent and 2 dryer sheets, which was cool. Our studio villa was nice, comfortable, really amazing double-shower head, and 'heavenly bed'. Internet was good/free, tv had a dvd player. Staff was really nice, the hotel had activities throughout the day, everyday, such as lei making, water aerobics, nature walks, etc. Some cost money, some didn't.

All in all, we liked the hotel and would stay here again, except that we were always driving to the more southern shore so we were thinking it would probably be better to just stay down there. No matter what, rent a car. Definitely worth it (get a 4 door jeep, leave the snorkel gear in the trunk space, you'll thank us later).

Our only gripe about the hotel was that although there was plenty of parking (which was nice), we weren't expecting the $9 a day parking fee. One really nice thing though was if you waive your housekeeping for the day, they give you a $10 food voucher (good for restaurant/cafe food at a couple places for that day only).

Room Tip: If you choose to "go green", the cleaning staff will skip your room for the day, and you w...
