Thing is, this restaurant is one of the very few restaurants in Princeville. It is not EXTREMELY over priced as are some others. But, It's not even reasonably priced for this shoddy facility; the location is convenient. Everything is a rush. They rush you to a table, throw a menu in front of you, and return in literally 2 minutes demanding your order! We actually thought we would have a nice bottle of wine and a great island meal with ambience. We might as well have been sitting at a table at Denny's! It was loud! The dinners were very lackluster, the wine was just okay. THEN, they hurriedly gave us a check before we finished our meals, and all but assisted us out the door so that another couple could be peeled from the crowd waiting in line. The experience would be disappointing on the mainland, and would most certainly have prompted a complaint from us, but here you almost feel fortunate to even obtain a meal! Princeville itself is terrific if you prefer no nightlife and absolutely nothing whatsoever to do except golf or lay by the pool. However, we assumed that, at the very least, we could enjoy some great meals at the various restaurants. None were 'great', but CJ's was a HUGE mistake. Take a pass on that one folks. Aloha!

We were in Kauai on our 10th yr anniversary. We ate there our first night in Princeville. It was delicious! I had the macadamia nut crusted ahi and my husband had it grilled and they were both excellent. Very fresh and tasty. We had it with rice pilaf, the salad bar and the famous dessert (Mud Pie) which were all also very good.

We had expected more from CJ's, but were greatly disappointed. Service was good (friendly and attentive) and the atmosphere on the outdoor deck was nice. However, as the families continued to come in the noise level inside was bad (as in good luck having a conversation). Food that was no better than Golden Corral or a similar type steakhouse.

My first order of "Coconut Shrimp" were cooked on the outside, but were ice cold and frozen on the inside. Nasty. The lighting outside was poor. Fortunately, I could tell something was off when I tried to cut the buggers. I sent them back. They second batch was cooked, but still bland and tasteless. There was nothing "coconutty" or "fresh-tasting" about these shrimp with CJ's two "special" sauces were a "Thai Chili" and cocktail sauce. Not good. A regular coconut sauce (like they use on pancakes or at Red Lobster would work better). Save $30.00 and don't order this mess.

My s.o. had the "fresh catch" which was Mahi Mahi, char-grilled, ok, edible. But bland and again nothing special and certainly they should be able to do better with local fresh fish and shrimp.

The salad bar was passable. The bread was a bit stale and even hard in spots from being reheated for so long. The salad bar itself looked a bit sloppy and unkempt, as though it'd be worked over by more than a few patrons without being cleaned up for a while. Unappetizing (the price for the salad bar solo? $13.95. ABSOLUTELY not worth it).

One plus: our wines were served at the correct temperature.

My recommendation -- stay away. You can have a better meal at the Thai or Mexican restaurant in the food court around the corner for 1/3 - 1/2 the price.

My impression was that CJ's has survived (and likely will continue to survive) on LOCATION. There were lots of families with kids and probably first timers. It is convenient (especially if you are tired or it's raining - which is why we tried it). This was passable - a 1/5 for food at best.

Ok, good, fun, nice place and friendly staff but $15 for a burger and the drink prices seem excessive but you have to consider the limited number of choices. There is not a lot of choices available in the Princeville area. This was our first evening experience and will be making a trip to the grocery and cooking-in here after since we are in a villa.

Lunch for two on the patio. The restaurant is located in the Princeville mall. It is rustic and friendly. We were starved and ordered a burger each with a plate of loaded fries to share. Burger comes with salad, fries or onion rings so we ordered salad on one and onion rings on the other and shared. WAY too much food. We had to pack up two 1/2 burgers. The loaded fries are fabulous - cheese, bacon bits and sour cream on semi crisp fries. Salad was fresh; not exciting but okay. Onion rings were tasty - very strong onions! Service was excellent and we were very happy.
