“Whaler's Cove Unit 125”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 11, 2013

Fabulous unit! So close to the ocean, you could almost touch it. Beautifully appointed, all amenities. The staff was extremely helpful, even made restaurant reservations and had beach equipment to lend for free. The pool is gorgeous and everything is extremely clean. Also, the landscaping is captivating. Can't wait to return!

Whalers Cove 210 is an amazing place and my stay was too short. The location is simply fabulous. It’s a place to tune out the world. The unit is well equipped and has everything I could have needed, but the most spectacular thing is that not only do you have an ocean view; you also have direct access from the unit to the pool!!! This proved to be the only unit with such amazing access. The bathrooms have been recently updated and the master bath has both an overhead shower-head as well as a hand held. Mark Twain said it best when he visited, Maui, but I believe had he been in Kauai, at Whalers Cove, he would have changed to the following: “I went to Kauai to stay a week at Whalers Cove 210 and remained five. I never spent so pleasant a month before, or bade any place goodbye so regretfully. I have not once thought of business, or care or human toil or trouble or sorrow or weariness, and the memory of it will remain with me always.”

Room Tip: Unit 210 is the only unit with direct pool access as well as an ocean view.

The reviews I've read of Whaler's Cove all seem pretty accurate to me, but adding my opinion as an extra data point. I spent 5 nights at unit 121, which is listed as "ocean view," not "ocean front," so I expected some kind of obscured view of the ocean. That wasn't the case at all. Even though 121 is close to the end of the property (there's a map on the resort website), the view is fabulous. I've stayed in ocean front rooms at other places that had a worse view than this. The building was designed to allow for that -- some of the units closer to the ocean appear to have smaller balconies, but the balcony in 121 is enormous, and the building is angled slightly, so you get a great view. You probably get a good view from anywhere, I think, especially if you're not right on the ground floor.

The unit itself was lovely. Spotlessly clean and very comfortable.

Some very minor nitpicks, bearing in mind I loved both the unit and the resort and would happily go back:

It is someone's privately owned condo, not a hotel room, so it's not perfect. For example, the shower head in the master bathroom needed descaling or replacing -- the water pressure was great but the shower was spraying water all over the place. From the photos in other reviews it looks as though some other units have been updated, so if you're really looking for luxury, you might want to give the resort manager a call and see what she recommends.

Again, the kitchen was spotless, like the rest of the unit, and the fridge looked as though it had never been used, but the utensils and smaller appliances were pretty basic. It's definitely not a high end, gourmet kitchen.

As other reviewers have pointed out, this would probably not be a good place for kids. It's very quiet, especially around the pool, and I get the impression even teenagers might not feel welcome here.

In terms of local amenities, Kukuiula Village is a 5-minute walk away and has several good restaurants, including Josselin's (roaming sangria cart!). There's also a small organic grocery store, Living Foods, which should be able to provide most of what you need if you're cooking for yourself. Expensive, though. There are a couple of much cheaper supermarkets a short drive away in Koloa, including Sueoka's and Big Save.

One more point -- I saw exactly one mosquito at Whaler's Cove (in the garden, not in the unit). Apparently the number varies depending on the weather and the time of year, but at least when I was there they're weren't a problem. I did see them on other parts of the island, though, notably the north side.

Room Tip: I think most units on the second and third floors would have a good view of the ocean, and some of t...

Rented thru The Parrish Collection, number 134. This is a top floor, ocean front, two bedroom condo. Truly gorgeous inside and out, with a fully appointed kitchen for lovely meals on the lanai. Ocean sounds 24/7 make for a relaxing time. We will definitely return. Brought my sister and brother-in-law for their first time and we are already talking about a family trip here with the grown kids and grandkids.
P.s. if there was one thing I would add it would be better bed pillows!

We enjoyed our extended weekend stay at Whalers cove in Mid April 2013. As a party of 3 adults we wanted space for socializing in a group but also allow privacy by having individual bedrooms.

At the time of booking the only available unit was of "Ocean View" grade. Initially we wanted something with a more direct ocean view, but we decided to go ahead and book anyway.

When we arrived were pleased to discover that we got assigned condo 234 (aka Kaikala Penthouse). Condo 234 is a corner unit and it offers a great view of the ocean from the balcony and all bedrooms. This particular condo gave us a quite spacious experience for a party of 3. We could tell that the maintenance had been kept up to speed and the
it was nice to enjoy the brand kitchen and bathroom equipment. We were very pleased by the construction quality and the cleanliness of the bathrooms. All 3 of us would love to stay at Whalers cove again.

During our trip we took the car to several beautiful beaches on the south side for swimming and snorkeling. We were lucky to see both turtles and seals. On one of the days we also drove to the "Tunnels" beach for some intermediate snorkeling which was great.

As for food, we had breakfast in our condo but ate lunch and dinner out. When looking for good restaurants the tasty food at "Kalaheo Cafe and Coffee" turned out to be a favorite. "Red Salt" was great for service and starters. We also enjoyed a quick snack at "Puka Dogs".

I stayed with my family in #125 for a week in March, and it was one of the nicest places I've stayed anywhere! The perfect combination of comfort and a spectacular location. The condo was spacious, clean, and had an incredible view of the ocean over a bright green lawn and palm trees. It looked like it came right out of a photograph. We loved eating outside and watching whales in the ocean right from our condo!

We had the best time staying in #135. The condo was spacious and beautifully decorated with the most spectacular ocean view. We loved waking up every morning and having breakfast on the balcony. The staff at Whaler's Cove were extremely attentive in regards to everything from local restaurant recommendations to having fresh towels, beach and bath, ready when we requested. We loved staying on the South Shore since it was a lot sunnier and beach friendly than the North Shore from our experience. Plus Whaler's Cove is so close to amazing beaches - Poipu, Shipwreck, etc and also good eats - Merriman's, Da Crack, Uncles Shave Ice, Lappert's and also shopping - Whaler's General Store for souvenirs and cute shops/boutiques in the same plaza. All of which were so close to Whaler's Cove. I highly recommend staying at Whaler's Cove when traveling to Kauai.
