“Prince Kuhio unit 212 awesome!!!”
Reviewed May 3, 2010

Prince Kuhio is a well located property with nice snorkel beach and sunset right across the street. Unit 212 was very nice, clean and comfy, and back off the road for quietness. It has a nice ocean view from the bedroom and lanai overlooking the park. The amenities in the condo was perfect for a romantic get away and places close by to entertain you if you desire. I highly recommend this unit and would love to return again soon. Mahalo and Aloha!!!!

LaRhea has been so easy to work with and very responsive to all of my questions and concerns. I can see why they love their condo....it is beautiful and so comfy! Everything in this unit has been updated in the last few years and all of the care and interest in getting the details right really shine through. From the granite countertops, fully stocked kitchen (utensils and cookware), wifi with your own desk, dimmable lighting, stereo with cd's, super comfortable bed and linens, I could just go on and on. We appreciated having a small cooler and beach towels to take with us during the day and beach chairs for the evening sunsets. I also appreciated the small library of Kaua'i guidebooks available in this unit....the blue book, Hoover's fish ID, trailblazer, etc. We used every one of them for different things and it was fantastic not having to drag them all the across the briny deep and back again! The one book I did bring (Snorkel Kauai), I left at the condo for the next person to enjoy.
The parking was effortless, even when we had to utilize the garage. The common areas (pool, grill area and grounds) are clean and beautiful. We played dominoes and enjoyed the picnic table area while washing clothes one afternoon. Even their laundry area is top notch with Maytag Neptune washers and dryers. I was impressed with the fact that someone was always busy tending to something in this complex, the staff really does care!
It was delightful to just walk across the street and snorkel without having to drive all around the island. There are tons of beautiful fish in this small area. We saw a huge turtle while snorkeling the last day that we were there and also saw Monk seals at Poipu Beach. Don't miss out on those million dollar sunsets on the Beach House lawn. We loved every minute of our visit in PK 316 and were so sad to leave.

It was our first trip to Kauai and we were very fortunate to find this condo. The Prince Kuhio complex is ideally located for travel around the island. Several small beaches are nearby. Our unit, #337, is located in the back corner of the complex on the third floor. It was quiet and private. There was some painting and maintenance work being done on the complex but because of our location, we were not bothered at all. 337 is a beautiful little studio condo. It's outfitted with everything you will need. Julie (the owner) is great with her communication and obviously cares about her guests. If you are considering a Prince Kuhio condo, I would recommend the units on the 2nd or 3rd floor. Otherwise you will not get much of a view (if any). And if you don't need more space then a studio provides, you won't do better then this one. Also beware; The rooster's will greet you every morning. (But that's true about everywhere on the island). We loved this place!

Very pleased with the accommodations. This unit has been updated, furnished lovely, location of the unit is great--Prince Kuhio park side towards the back--very quiet but still has that great ocean view. The causal kitchen is equipped with everything you would need. The quality is there. And of course a wonderful location. We will be back.....

First we had to pick up the key in a separate location about 20 minutes out of our way (and not easy to find). Upon arrival, we noticed a lock box where the key could have been more conveniently place. We had to haul our luggage up 6 flights of stairs...no elevator! Then we struggled with an old, sticky lock for a few minutes before opening the door to have a very musty smell pour out. We had to air out the condo for a while before the smell dissipated. The rooms were really small and dusty, though the furnishings were nice and newer. We immediately noticed many dangers for our baby inside and out on the deck, so we had to hold him most of the time to prevent crawling into dangerous spots. The appliances were really old...some of the stove burners didn't work, and the surface was uneven so that food couldn't cook evenly. Only one bathroom in the condo was inconvenient, and it was really old and had a step-down thing that was somewhat hazardous. Shower water often went cold. The condo didn't have simple amenities such as soap, shampoo, or anything...so we had to buy large ones at the grocer and then leave them behind for lack of luggage space. The carpet looked newer but smelled very old and musty. There was a musty, mildewy smell throughout our stay, and it was worst whenever we left and came back. Going up and down 6 flights of stairs every day was not our idea of a vacation...we thought our exercise needs would be met via snorkeling and hiking. The views were great and location was excellent! Everything else was pretty undesirable...probably would not stay there again. Parking was also very difficult to find...had to park far away. Last, we had to return our key to the out of the way office, which added half an hour delay to our rushing to the airport. A bit stressful!

OceanKauai, Management Representative at Prince Kuhio Condos, responded to this review, January 27, 2010
The condos are individually owned and while nearly all of them are in excellent condition, some of the owners spend more time updating and remodeling than others.  We encourage you to talk to the  owners and look at the photos to assess the condition of the condo if that is as important to you as the location and price.

The condo complex is small and is a super value given the proximity to the ocean, great beaches, pool, tropical garden and since it is adjacent to a beautiful memorial park.  There is enough parking on site for one car per condo and half of it is in a covered garage.  There is only 3 levels and not six levels to this complex and there are 3 different sizes of condos. If you have a child or infant, you should talk to the owner to make sure the condo has been made child proof. The housekeeping service used by the owner will determine the cleanliness and the amenities such as paper and soap.  Most of the housekeeping services on island provide all varieties of soap and paper and open the curtains and windows prior to guest arrival.  We are very sorry this guest had a bad experience, but we hope you look at all the reviews to make an assessment about this property and not make a  judgement based on one single person's experience.

Number 211 at the Prince Kuhio turned out to be a great destination for us on our third trip to Poipu.

Every aspect of our stay met or surpassed our expectations based on the description provided by the #211 rental website. If you are looking for good value in comfortable, clean and well-equipped rooms with a great location---this is it.

We were impressed not only with the cleanliness and comfort of #211, but with the overall atmosphere and ambiance of the building itself. We found the other guests to be very friendly and easy going. In short, we had a wonderful time and would love to stay here again.

We made tremendous use of the snorkeling beach to the right of the Beach House Restaurant about two minutes walk from our rooms. We also spent a little time in the Beach House, itself!

We can't vouch for the other condos at the Prince Kuhio, but we are happy to recommend #211 and our excellent hosts Jack and Dorinda. They were very friendly and responded quickly and accurately to all our questions. When a sudden change of plans left us high and dry they stepped in and helped us out. Great people!

From PK 316, we enjoyed beautiful sunrises, the sound of surf and trade winds. This condo has a separate spacious bedroom, well-equipped kitchen, nice little dining area, computer desk with wi-fi, and comfortable living room furniture. The swimming pool is in a very pretty tropical garden. The small balcony's view is of Prince Kuhio Park and the ocean. New tile is being completed on outside halls and stairs, and the crew impressed us with their polite behavior and tidiness. The owners, Bruce and LaRhea, were very friendly and accommodating. Their condo photos and description are accurate: http://www.prince-kuhio.com/site/316.html
Take advantage of Prince Kuhio Condo's super location:
*SNORKEL across from Lawa'i Beach in the morning, before it gets crowded & too hot.
*SWIM at the sandy beach in front of the Sheraton about a mile East, along Poipu Beach Rd. Take beach chairs from the condo closet & park in the lot nearest PK. In late afternoon, watch local kids perform boogie board acrobatics here.
*WALK or RUN along Lawa'i Rd. to Hoona Rd., across the bridge to oceanside Poipu Beach Rd. to the Sheraton & adjacent Kiahuna Plantation Resort (pretty grounds and orchid garden).
*WALK or RUN West from the condo to Spouting Horn and through the extensive free section of the Botanical Gardens
WALK the bluff past the Hyatt. Park at Shipwreck Beach, adjacent to the Hyatt. Walk on beach to enter Hyatt grounds (marvel at their extravagant lagoon and landscaping!), continue to public path on the bluff for dramatic view of the surf below.. Watch for turtles off some of the rugged rock formations. Good whale-watching here during migration.
SHOP for groceries in nearby Koloa Town at Big Save or Sueoka stores. Sueoka has fresh local veggies, homemade sushi and a takeout window w/inexpensive plate lunches big enough to share. Koloa Farmer's Market ("Sunshine Market") is at the baseball field near Koloa, Mondays at noon. Other Kauai markets: http://realkauai.com/FarmersMarkets/
LUNCH at Ishihara Market in Waimea. Choose bento or other takeout items and eat w/locals at a picnic table outside. For ono saimin and other local specialties, in Hanapepe, stop at Da Imu Hut Cafe on the mountain side of the highway next to Kauai Kookie Outlet . In Lihu'e, try delicious Vietnamese soup at Pho Kauai 4303 Rice St St.
