“PK 319”
Reviewed January 26, 2014

My family stays in Prince Kuhio every year for the past 4 years. The location was great, the pool was nice and the people were amazingly friendly. There were however a couple issues with our condo. 319 has very awkward access to the bathroom where you have to walk through the master bedroom in order to reach. In addition to this the condo was very dated and looked like it hadn't been redone in the past 25 years. It did have a washer and dryer and every thing one would need in a vacation kitchen (aside from a dishwasher). Overall a wonderful property I would recommend however just make sure to browse so the room suits your needs.

Our 2nd visit to the very old Prince Kuhio Resort. 1st time we stayed in #305. Both of the units #203 and #305 have VERY SMALL lanais - against my better judgement I did it again! Should not have....2 chairs must face each other. No room for table or to stretch out. Kitchen is very dated even though it's painted. Some basic items were not there. Sure could have used a slicing bread knife and my husband devised the handle on the garbage can as it didn't have one. The man is a genius ! In all fairness - the location is SUPERB, I have nothing but good things to say about the yards and cleanliness of the old revised hotel - they are very well maintained by very good staff. The units are individually owned and stand on there own inasfar as modifications etc. Waking distance to all sorts of lovely beaches and spouting horn. Little fancy shops at the corner 1 mile up should you have the need to shop. Expensive Food Market but well stocked with things like QUINOA - looked everywhere before I found it at this only location. To sum things up.....can't beat the location but if a bigger linai is a must make sure you check out the other units (some do have bigger ones that will accommodate a table and 4 chairs). All the units are very booked in advance - that's why we took this one. Book at least a year prior your visit and get the unit of your choice! P.S. The navy sheets and blue towels are probably more to do with hiding stains rather than matching the décor. The whole space could use a very thorough cleaning - a proper vacuum would help. If you can afford to pay more then perhaps do more hunting for a better place....otherwise enjoy all the beauty that the Island has to offer!!

Room Tip: We chose a room with ocean view both times - those closer to ocean are the ones that are best in my...

This was our second stay at PK, the first time about 5 years ago. The PK is a 1960's era hotel converted to condos that are very well maintained. We love the south shore location, just across the street from some of the best winter snorkeling on the Island. Pros: PK is a great location, very well maintained property, on-site laundry, and the convenience of having a kitchen to curb costs by doing some of our own cooking. Cons: condo balconies are separated only by open concrete lattice work (so you are basically sitting with your neighbor), sound transmits easily through rooms and halls (probably because we are all enjoying the ocean breezes with open doors), the pool is easily as cold as the mountain streams from home, and the roosters at Prince Kuhio park are committed to a routine of crowing from 3 a.m. until about noon. We stayed this time in #237, which faces Prince Kuhio Park. The owners of #237 have done a fantastic job with updates and stocking the condo with everything you need for a beach vacation...from the complete kitchen wares to beach towels and a cooler. We found it to be everything we needed and nothing we didn't. They also provide wireless internet, which was important to us. In every communication we had, the owners were warm, professional, and accommodating. We give them and PK 237 5 stars!

Room Tip: Look for rooms facings Prince Kuhio park (for _30 to _37 these rooms are the odd numbers).

The unit 115 of Prince Kuhio is perfect! You have a lot of space and everything you need. We allways cooked our own dinner and ate on the lanai (it is on ground floor) with excellent view of the stars. It is not right at the beach, but you can hear the sound of the waves while falling asleep. The bed is new and really very good for the price of the accomodation. We can recommend everybody to come here and we hope to come back soon, but we can only speak for unit 115. Thanks a lot to the owners Judy and Bill, who share their place with guests, when they are not on Kauai!

We rented unit 318 and very much enjoyed the experience. PK is centrally located, with the open lanais facing Prince Kuhio Park. This ensures that you'll have a great view of the ocean and the beach as well as some shade from the park's trees. But beware of the large number of roosters around the island. They will not let you sleep in! Our unit was very well equipped - with lots of snorkeling equipment, beach towels, pots and pans. The kitchen is tiny and the configuration of the shower and bath is a bit odd. Another big advantage is having two flat screen TVs - one in the bedroom and the other in the living room. The unit's decor and furnishings just need a bit more TLC. The amount of dust on some items was extremely noticeable. Overall, a very good experience.

I originally tried to reserve another unit in this complex after reading glowing reviews, but it was booked for our stay. The owner of that unit suggested #106 as an available alternative and we took it.

This is a ground floor, one-bedroom unit with water views from the lanai. It's compact but ideal for a couple. The layout is a bit awkward (you must walk through the bedroom to get from the kitchen to the lanai) but just fine for 2 people.

Unit Positives:
- Very clean and tidy
- Comfortable bed (a big plus for my aging back!)
- Ceiling fan over bed made for restful sleep
- Good sized kitchen
- Very nice lanai / living room. TV and stereo pre-populated with Hawaiian music CD.
- Strong water pressure and plenty of hot water in shower
- Complimentary beach 'toys' for use while there
- Ground floor location

Unit Negatives:
- No a/c. No problem at all for us, but worth considering if you're unusually sensitive to heat.
- Parking was a bit irritating. On two of our three nights, we were forced to park on the street because every parking space in the unit was full. A quick glance on a couple dashboards showed no 'parking card' so they were illegal, but there was no one on site to do anything about it. Fortunately, the street parking was close by.

Poipu has the feeling of a bedroom community. About a quarter mile up the road is an outdoor shopping plaza with food, drink, other amenities, but down near the condo, there is only the upscale Beach House restaurant nearby.

We enjoyed our stay here but the area gets pretty quiet after a couple of days.

Interaction with property management was smooth and easy. Recommended stay, especially for the low price!

Room Tip: Most rooms in Prince Kuhio condos have the same view. We appreciated this unit on the ground floor...

Over the years we have stayed at many PK condo units. This time at, PK 2-9. Rented through Kauai Vacation Rentals and VRBO. 11/15/13- 12/4/13. The condo was clean and in general comfortable. Location is the best thing about all PK condos. Beach, restaurants everything is at your finger tips. PK 2-9 is a common PK condo rental. Pros, Washer/Dryer, Nice view of the park and a sideways view of the ocean. It's on the second floor. The grounds are beautiful. There's covered parking, fans, kitchen. The condo is setup as a rental property and and could use a few better amenities. Pillows, better kitchen appliances, TV in bedroom. Better furniture. Would I stay again? YES!! However, people should not feed the chickens off the lanais!

Room Tip: Book early and shop around.
