Prince Kuhio Condos
Ranked #12 of 29 Specialty Lodging in Poipu
Reviewed September 20, 2012 via mobile

We spent a week at Prince Kuhio Resort #211 and are 100% satisfied. The suite is well appointed, maintained, equipped and squeaky clean. The full kitchen is fully equipped for cooking. Ample and comfortable living/dining area. The bedroom is comfortable and large.

Don't be scared off by a lack of air conditioning. The front wall louver system combined with the sliding screened lanai door in the bedroom provides a cross ventilation powered by the constant ocean breezes.

The condo owners, Jack and Dorinda live at this resort and are helpful and friendly.

The all-glass bedroom wall with balcony overlooks the Prince Kuhio Park, the site of the home of Prince Kuhio, the last royalty of the Hawaiian kingdom.

Closeby beaches, supermarket, interesting shops, good restaurants and unbelievably scenic drives makes this place a great home base from which to explore Paradise.

We arrived in Kauai with no place to stay, and could only find really expensive places to stay. Then we found room 321 at the prince kuhio. amazing in every way. right on the water. pool. everything you would need. and such a good price. and super nice and helpfully people who run it too. would be on the top of my list for next time I come back to Kauai!

Been here several times in 5 years. Great basic condo. Comfortable. Sleeps 4 (2 adults, 2 kids). Highly recommend. Great location across from great snorkeling site in short walk distance. Ocean view. Will be back again and again.

Room Tip: Room is quiet with great ventilation. No fitness center or room service

Our condo (room #211 in Prince Kuhio - not Prince Kuhio shores across the street) was spacious and MUCH nicer than we thought based on the pictures that we saw. The onsite staff was very helpful as we had lost our check-in instructions. The kitchen was well-appointed with about everything that we needed, though we are still a bit unsure why they listed it as "gourmet" - it just seemed like a normal kitchen, nothing special. On-site laundry facilities were handy. BBQ's in the courtyard/garden area were appreciated. And, in our closet, we found masks, snorkels, fins, boogey board, sun screen, mosquito repellant, coolers, lots of stuff that is great to have, especially if you forgot yours (we only used the mosquito repellant - which we didn't even end up needing on our jungle tour, and one of the coolers.
The only disappointing factor about the place was the bathroom situation.... Not much privacy at all with thin sliding, slatted doors separating you from the bedroom. Could be embarrassing! Also, would have appreciated a bathtub as I cut my foot badly on some coral and needed to soak it. No bathtub + no hottub = something lacking in my book. Should definitely have one or the other.
I did not look into any of the other units, so I have no idea what they were like, but we REALLY loved ours and would stay again. If I owned it, I would make use of some wasted space and expand the bathroom.

Room Tip: I was concerned about the lack of A/C because I ALWAYS run hot. However, it wasn't even a tiny...

We stayed in Prince Kuhio 401 in the first part of Aug for 8 nights with 2 adults and a toddler. The property is a little older but they have done a good job with keeping it updated. It was well supplied with am entities (ie. Boogie board, snorkel gear, beach towels). The huge lanai has a wonderful view of the ocean which is right across the street. Good for sunrise breakfasts and sunset dinners. It was also well supplied with paper products which saves you from having to buy them. It doesn't have a tub, which our toddler didn't appreciate, but it was good for us. There is no A/C so it does get a little warm in the afternoon, but the wonderful trade winds cool it right off for sleeping at night. It's also on the 4th floor, so there are three flights of stairs, which is not bad if you don't mind climbing them (we didn't.....good exercise). It is literally a 2 min. walk to the beach, where you can also sit on The Beach House restaurant lawn to watch the sunsets. My wife thinks I should have given it 5 stars. Overall we had a wonderful experience here and would highly recommend it to anyone ! We were sorry to leave and will be back!

My first trip to kauai and my first time renting a condo for vacation. We stayed in unit 135. My first reaction on seeing the apartment was disappointment - it's an older apartment and could use some upgrades, especially in the kitchen. Having said that - the location was great. Unit 135 is near the back of the complex overlooking Prince Kuhio Park. We enjoyed ocean views from the bed and patio. The patio was very quiet and a pleasant place to sit and watch birds. There is a bit of a hill in front of the unit that adds to feeling of privacy. The unit was air conditioned, but we found it was nicer to open the windows and listen to the ocean. We had no issues with security and felt perfectly safe on the ground floor.

Tne unit was clean and was well equiped with all the kitchen gear that you could need. Coffee is provided for your first day - but if you need cream or sugar you'll need to provide that yourself. The unit has a new flat screen tv, dvd player, radio, phone with answering machine, alarm clock, wifi, beach towels, chairs, mats and a beach umbrella. The king sized bed was comfortable but squeeks. Bed linens were new.

Prince Kuhio resort is not fancy, but it is comfortable. The gardens are lovely, the pool has just enough shade that you can find a shady spot if you want one. The barbeque area is quite sociable and the beach is just across the street,

All in all, a pleasant place to stay - not fancy, not pretentious, adequate accomodation at a an excellent price.

Room Tip: Studios with odd numbers face the park and have views of the ocean. Sudios with even numbers face p...

This was my 10th trip to Hawaii and 5th to Kauai. I have stayed in Kapaa and in Princeville and ws a little concerned about being so far away from Lihue in Poipu, but fears were availed by the new shopping center in walking distance and really by having a swimabloe beach across the street. Condo 136 is as far from the road as yo can get but across the garden form the parking garge so no stairs and a short distance to load up for the day. The condo is older, The Prince Kuhio is 50 years old in 2012 but well maintained. The king size bed is new with a firm mattress and the kitchen has the stuff you need, even a coffee grinder. The futon was fine for my teenage son but old adults may not find it so comfortable. The room is very large for a studio so we had plenty of room to stash suitcases. There are boogie boards, beach chairs, umbrella and beach towels. And it is very affordable, I'd see myself renting 136 again.

Room Tip: Rooms on the east side over looking Prince Kuhio Park will also have an ocean view.
