“#54 Is Perfect”
Reviewed February 22, 2014

After much searching we found the perfect spot in Poipu Beach. The condo is totally furnished (including beach chairs, coolers, boogie boards, etc) for a comfortable stay. Kitchen is well equipped and has everything you need to cook if so inclined. Having the bedrooms upstairs might be an issue for some but we loved it. The beds are super comfortable and master shower is AMAZING... Close to everything and not more than a few minutes car ride or a short walk to anything you need. Some complained about the road out front but few cars on it and I would rather be able to walk out on the patio with a glass of wine and watch the sunset or whales, than to be in a unit further back in the complex. Grounds are lovely and pool area is perfect size and very peaceful. Cynthia was fantastic to work with, thought of everything and had a lot of great tips. Simply can’t go wrong!!

We have stayed at Poipu Kapilli for four years. The first year we stayed on the first floor and the second and third year on the second floor. When we made our 2014 reservation we were late and the second floor unit was not available so we took the first floor. After staying there this year we really liked it better. It was more convenient to the pool, to go out for walks, etc , car and to the office. The only problem was there was a light by the pool that shined directly in the living room, also on the patio. It was not nice to sit out at night and we had to have our blinds closed in the evening while eating or watching TV. Everything else was great. The maids were very good and kept the schedule, the office staff was great. It was so nice to be welcomed back.

My husband and I just returned from our first trip to Kauai. Our stay at Poipu Kapili
#29 was wonderful! It was very spacious and clean. The condo had all the amenities that we needed for cooking etc..The view from the lanai was spectacular! The grounds were well manicured and the staff was very helpful! The location is perfect with walking distance to the shops and restaurants and only a short drive to "outfitters" for our adventures. We will definitely come back only next time for 2 weeks.
Thank you!

Poipu Kapili is a great place to stay on the south shore of Kauai. It is clean, well managed and has easy access to everything the south shore has to offer.

Here are some tips:

- Do not rent units 3, 4, 5 or 6. They face the ocean (which is fantastic) but there is a parking area in front of the ocean so often times during our stay there were guys in pick up trucks drinking beer and playing classic rock right in front of our unit. It felt like an invasion of our privacy and blocked the view of the ocean. The other units directly on the water do not have this issue.

- Bring your own kitchen knives as the knives supplied to us were quite bad.

- The pool is no great shakes so book a resort if you're planning on spending a lot of time in the pool.

- The master bedroom has a breathtaking ocean view. The second bedroom looks onto the parking lot... This is fine for a family but if two couples plan to share a unit, they should find something with two good bedrooms, not just one. Also, when the lights are on at night in the second bedroom people in the parking lot can see in even when the doors are closed. This is because the wooden slat blinds angle directly toward the line of sight of anyone standing in the parking lot.

My boyfriend has stayed at the place many times with his family, so we stayed here on my first trip to Kauai. The staff were friendly, the room was clean and quite big, the view was wonderful and it was nice to have a pool. There's a beach a short walk away. It was nice to have a condo so we could cook some of huge nights, they also have bbqs you can use, and a fresh herb garden which was really nice.
I will stay here again!

Room Tip: Make sure to check out the views of the rooms when booking so you get one with a good view.

We stayed seven days with our neighbors in unit # 51 in early October. We were not disappointed. The unit had all the conveniences of home and more. 2000 sq feet with two master bedrooms on the top floor with one having a wonderful ocean view and the other a nice garden/pool view both with toe balconies. The kitchen and living room downstairs were excellent for the four of us to use all seven days. (roomy and comfortable) The unit had a washer and dryer, beach towels for going out, boogie boards, snorkel equipment and two great lanais off the living space. The house was decorated with cool and comfortable wicker furniture. The complex was going through some drainage construction but all the workers were quit and professional. The pool was very nice and clean, location is perfect, and the owner(Cam) was excellent to deal with. We will stay here again.

We stayed in Poipu Kapili for 5 nights in October and we enjoyed our stay. It's one of the best condo complexes to stay in south Kauai, and I'll explain why

PROS :
1) The views : condo 26 definitely has the best, direct ocean view. Of course the family suites have better, "closer to the ocean" views, but this is the best you can get from a 1 bedroom condo. Look at their website for a floor map, and you'll see why 26 is the best. It's in the middle of the complex and overlooks the pool directly to the ocean.
2) Huge units : and I really mean it. We were really impressed by the size of the kitchen, living room and bedroom. It's at least 1000 sqft, which, for a studio, is huge!
3) 1.5 bathrooms : Even if you don't need them, you still have 1.5 bathrooms, with a separate shower.
4) Newer units : one of the main things that made us choose Poipu Kapili over Kuhio Shores was the better looking units. It's definitely newer in Poipu Kapili, but choose your condo carefully as many of them aren't updated! Condo 26 is beautiful though.
5) Air Conditionning : this also helped us choose over Kuhio Shores, but I have to admit in October trade winds made it comfortable enough to sleep with windows open. In fact, we never even touched the a/c unit. We just opened the patio and bedroom glass doors, which face each other in a straight line, and we had a beautiful breeze all night long. The sound of air brushing through the trees was so relaxing!
6) Swimming Pool : we never had the chance to swim in the pool (because we spent too much time exploring Kauai), but this is another point that made us choose Poipu Kapili over Kuhio Shores and others.
7) Fully-equipped kitchen : with everything piece of equipment and utensil you need, literally.
8) Parking : although parking isn't rare in Kauai, we loved that we had our designated parking spot right in front of our condo door, which made it easier to bring stuff from and to the car.
9) Location : Within walking distance from shopping and great restaurants. 5-minute drive to a full sized grocery store.
10) Peaceful : Quiet and peaceful. We almost never heard a noise, not even during the day. The pool was almost always deserted.
11) Cleanliness : everything is clean and very well maintained. Nothing looks run down or in a bad shape.
12) Sunday room service : we were surprised to have a note on our door about Sunday room service. We didn't expect that in a condo!
13) Discount for reparations on the premises : we got a great discount because they were running reparations. This adds to the great service. We were warned about noise, but we never heard a thing!
14) Rates : last, but not least, price was a major attraction for us, as this was much, much cheaper than nearby hotels or even comparable condos.

CONS :
1) Sometimes the complex looked almost too peaceful, as if there was no life! But it didn't bother us because we were out of the unit for most of the day.
2) A tiny street separates you from the ocean. That didn't bother us as we still enjoyed the views. Cars rarely drove by.
3) The ocean in front isn't swimmable. So if you have kids and/or want an easier way to the beach, I suggest Kuhio Shores, or walking a few minutes to the nearby hotels.

All in all, I strongly suggest Poipu Kapili, and especially condo 26!

Room Tip: Choose condo 26!
