The hallways could use a makeover - wallpaper peeling and torn in many places and the dingy lighting makes the hallways dark and creepy. Other than that, this resort is perfect. The room was large and immaculate. Thebathroom was beautiful. Staff were friendly and helpful. We had a wonderful time wandering the spectacular grounds. Will definately go back again.

his is our 4th visit to what used to be the Hyatt Regency Kauai. It may also be our last. Things appear to have really gone downhill here. Some very informed long-time staff confirmed that this is NOT the place it used to be. Not only has the name changed, but a management turnover in from David Sears to Jerry Westenhaven in 2011 appears to have stripped the remaining Aloha out of this resort and staff. I would no longer recommend this property to couples or singles without children. If you like amusement parks and a lively atmosphere for all ages, please do come! In our opinion, although it used to do an excellent job delivering both family AND adult service, those days appear to have sadly vanished. SO have a lot of the great staff that used to make us feel like we were litterally 'ohana' from the moment we arrived. Some even knew us by name. At that time, they never questioned if we belonged, or made us feel ignored like this visit did. Instead we found a disaffected and unhappy staff. Speaking to some old-timers here, we know that they too may not be in favor with the corporate direction Hyatt has taken this resort in. It really showed, and saddened us from the moment we arrived. Most noticibly is there are litterally unattended children everwhere. Don't get me wrong, I love kids, just not so many, and all at once! There was no adult sanctuary left other than the spa. Even the adult pool had been converted into a soak-zone by several loud tweens, followed by a conga-line of unconcerned parents with toddlers in innertubes and no staff other than landscapers to be seen. To add to the mess, you are also are now made to wear a paper carnival wristband if you want to use the pools which I politely tried to turn down. I'm still not sure why they have the bands, is there a security problem from the public beach? To add to the confusion and insult not everyone wears one, or has to, and especially not the children who seemed to have free reign from the Grand Club Lounge to the lagoons. Thankfully there was ONE place left for respite or romance on the property other than your room, the Anara Spa. At least there is seldom anyone there, a full lap pool, hot tub, steam and after some complaints a functioning sauna. Yes, it is adults only, gender separate and clothing optional as it should be. Thee only thing needed for entry was a smile. After a week I feel like I've had the spa facilities practically all to myself. However, if they renamed the property again to something like The Hyatt Hawaiian Adventure Park, it would better describe the ambience you should expect to encounter.

Green Features: I spent a good deal of time cleaning trash off Shipwrecks Beach where the property lies. I'm not sure what the hotel's policy was, but I felt that any policy is simply green coloured lip-service given the beer cans, paper bracelets and hotel food-trays I brought back to discard properly.

If you like small intimate hotels - this is not your place. We had to use a GPS to find the Spa on our first day.

Having said this, the place was clean, our room was quiet, and had a nice outlook. Breakfast was included - so why give us an invoice - when its not put on the final bill?

As others have stated - the $25 per day resort fee - plus tax - is a great way to piss off your clients. Indeed - its a deal breaker for me. I'll never stay again in any hotel that charges extra to access the internet. Include it in the rate.

Stevenson's Bar was very relaxing, and a nice change from regular resort food. Our server was so relaxed and skilled, he was able to frizbee our drink coasters onto our table from several feet away - never seen that before.

The signature restaurant - Tidepools - was a little disappointing. We booked a waterside table for 7:00pm. We arrived at 7:00 pm, and were told to wait till our table was ready - did we not book it for this time? Was then offered a non waterside table. Told that they don't take reservations for particular tables. When we refused to accept the offered table, when I could see the one I wanted, we finally got what we asked for. Management - what is your problem???

Anyway - the food was good, but they stuffed up the bill. I give up.

Huge hotel and grounds, never felt crowded. The kids 4 & 6 thoroughly enjoyed the water slide, lazy river (picked up 2 inner tubes from the Kmart for $5 each) and the salt water lagoon. We had Grand Club access which I would highly recommend for young kids to take care of breakfast and before dinner snacks.
A few minor issues, but the staff was empowered and ready to make them right.
Even had the front desk call during the middle of the stay asking if they were meeting my expectations. Nice touch. Beach is small and waves are too rough for little ones, take them to Poipu beach and you may even get to see some turtles.
Fitness room is adequate and my wife enjoyed her massage at the spa.
Overall a great stay!

Room Tip: Depends on what you wan,t but we had 5047 room in Poipu wing which was 1/2 way to the grand club and...

Staff was very friendly, but not attentive and well organized.

The lagoon pools, hot tubs and slides are fun for kids and make up for the dirty pool chairs, and fees you must pay if you want shade.

Rooms and hallways need to be updated, but the hotel is clean, beds are comfortable and rooms offer adequate space.

It's a family friendly, comfortable hotel 4 star hotel experience.

My husband and I took our first trip to Hawaii and chose to stay here at the Grand Hyatt and it was just beautiful! The minute we arrived we were greeted with a lei and a smile! Everyone we came across was friendly and treated us great. The grounds are so beautiful and relaxing. The views are breathtaking. The food in the restaurants was delicious and the bartenders were very friendly as well as the girls poolside. Our room was off to the side and I felt we were alone, which was nice! Very comfortable bed! I highly recommend this hotel! Those hawaiian flowered bushes are all around and the aroma from them is just wonderful! I took a few flowers back to my room every night and woke up to such a sweet smell!
