THE BAD NEWS: Room rates are pricey...It is a huge property & we had to walk & walk & walk to get to our room. Ask for a room close to the Lobby if you can't (or don't like to) walk...beach is nice but not good for swimming. THE GOOD NEWS: It is a beautiful sprawling hotel, with alcoves surrounding the fun pool...rooms are nice, clean & I loved the electric bidets on the toilet!...Get up in the morning & float away your cares in the cool salt-water lagoon (before the kids get there), definitely the highlight of my stay!... I booked thru the Hyatt website for a discounted room rate, which included breakfast., then they upgraded us when we checked in..breakfast at the Ilima Restaurant was busy, abundant & you may have to wait if you want a table with a view, so we opted to grab a table in the back & hit the buffet...Staff was very friendly, & one walked us all the way to the Lobby when we lost our way. Sad we only had 1 night there, but can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: Rooms can be very far from Lobby, although rooms in the wing by the tennis courts are closer to the...

It was our honeymoon, we are the kind of people who likes to enjoy the sunrise, spend the morning in the beach, do some activities outside and enjoy the beauty and magic of every place... so we can get exhausted in the afternoon and we just like to relax and go to bed early for a good nights sleep and be ready for another beautiful morning... But this hotel has marriages and diferents events, parties in the middle of the rooms, with the music very loud that you cannot isolated closing the door, It is like the hotel obligates you to be part of the party until it ends... We paid 500 dollars at nigth for privacy and feel comfortable, and it was totaly the oposite, we would be better in a cheaper hotel with a good nights sleep.
We were here in the Marriott and the Hanalei Colony Resort and they are the best, we could sleep hearing the breeze and waves and with the privacy that we like to pay for.

PS: The answer from the reception about the noise, was "We can give you some earplugs to sleep with" ... Ahhh!!!

Aloha Naty R,
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at our resort. Sorry to hear it did not exceed your expectations. There's no place better on Kauai to watch the sunrise than on the cliffs to the east of the resort, very rugged and secluded, the path itself continues on for 2-3 miles to Mahaulepu beach. It's a lovely walk and sounds right up your alley but it sounds like you must not have done that. Sorry to hear the weddings at the resort and events were a bother to you. Glad you were able to enjoy your time on Kauai.
Enjoy your day, Diann

We went here for our 25th anniv and we can't say enough good about this place. We wanted something special and relaxing with the feeling we really splurged, and we were not disappointed!! We enjoyed it so much we never left the property for our 3 day stay. We decided to leave all our touring for Maui, where we headed next for a week and met our kids. We tried every restaurant, excellent! We loved the poolside service...completely professional staff from the smiling faces at check-in clear thru to our daily maid service, everyone working here is extremely friendly and at your service. We both enjoyed a massage one day and loved the use of a cabana as the sun is intense but the weather so beautiful that you just want to be outside all the time. We are very particular travelers when it comes to clean accommodations and good food; Grand Hyatt did not let us down. We were upgraded to an ocean view room upon arrival. Absolutely beautiful views, private lanai and we spent every morning enjoying the sunrise and coffee - and every evening we enjoyed the soothing sound of the ocean. There's lots of walking trail and space, and even though everything seems really spread out, after all, its a great walk no matter where you have to go. I encourage you to read the review of jsf420 - well worded and described.

My wife and I spent 5 nights here the first week of March. We proceeded from there to two other resorts on Maui and Hawai'i, so some of my comments are also comparative. The facility and grounds are very well done, and the pool complex is fantastic. The various pool areas are spread out, so nothing ever seemed crowded, and we had no problems finding a couple open lounge chairs as we did some other places. There is a long meandering river connecting the pools, ending with an impressive slide - fun even for those of in our 50s. We had a very spacious room, and the lobbies and restaurant areas were very nice. The breakfast buffet was the best we had during our trip.

Our main impression, though, was the customer service. Every last staff member we interacted with was cheerful and helpful, and were quite convincing that they not only were glad to see us, but loved their jobs. This included front desk and concierge, all waitstaff, the pool staff and the housecleaning crews. Kudos to your HR training department. It left us with a very good feeling about our stay there, and we would definitely return.

We just returned from a 9 day trip to Kauai, 6 of which were spent at the Grand Hyatt.... It was our second time here. A decade ago, the pool made a profound impact upon my husband, and he has dreamed of returning to it ever since. And, true to form, he counts his time in the Grand Hyatt pool among his favorite experiences on this trip. How to describe it? The pool is a lushly landscaped lazy river where you can swim, stroll (it isn't particularly deep), play a sport, go down a waterslide, or smooch with a loved one under a waterfall.... A few steps away lies yet another pool on a sandy beach, where swimmers can experience the ocean-- it even has a little island-- without actually experiencing the ocean.... Of course, then there is the actual ocean, which is a few more steps away, but always within view.

And within earshot as well.... We stayed in an oceanfront room with a balcony on the fifth floor. We slept with the sliding glass door open (screen closed) and the steady sound of the ocean waves crashing outside made for some wonderful sleep (and it drowned out the husband's snoring!!!). The bed was super comfy, the bathrooms were very nice and spacious.... We really enjoyed the our stay at the Grand Hyatt.

Other perks: To the east of the Grand Hyatt is a wonderful walking trail with some of the prettiest seaside views on the Southern part of Kauai. And, given that it is the southern part of the island, the weather is almost always cooperative. This is where the sun shines most often on the Kauai, as one may often be reminded...

As I mentioned, we stayed 6 nights at the Grand Hyatt. The remainder of our trip was to be spent at a resort in Princeville on the Northern part of the island. As we were leaving, a manager (I think) spent several minutes telling me that the Northern part of the island was known for rain, suggesting that I would likely regret the change of scenery. I told him I was quite aware of the weather differences on the island but thanked him for his concern. Honestly, this rubbed me the wrong way. The Hyatt is a beautiful property. There is absolutely no reason to try to sell it by putting down the Northern part of the island. That said, we enjoyed our stay at the Grand Hyatt.

And if we ever return to Kauai, this is where we will stay.

Aloha sdnwildcat,
Mahalo for taking the time to share your recent experience at our resort. Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay and that the pools made such a great impression on your husband 10 years ago that it brought you back and you weren't disappointed. It's great you got out to explore the North shore as well, the island has so much diversity and places to explore. We look forward to your next visit.
Enjoy your day, Diann

My wife Lori and I spent 3 days at this fabulous resort and we loved every minute. The groups are breath taking, the ocean and sand beach were amazing. We met people from around the world and shared stories about how perfect this resort is and the service staff treated us like family. We look forward to returning soon,

Room Tip: Got to wake up with an ocean view and watch the whales and dolphins

The resort has beautiful grounds, well maintained. Our ocean view from our room was like a postcard. This resort appears to be the best choice if you stay in Poipu. If you expect outstanding customer service and attention, this is not the resort for you. Average service. The beach next to the resort is a public beach with locals drinking and smoking, leaving piles of beer bottles behind. I would suggest you accompany your children and teens to the beach. The surf is rough so swimming in the pool or salt water lagoon is recommended. The pool area and lagoon are nice, not as big as is pictured and every chair is taken. The club level at this hotel is not the club level you will experience at other hotels. The club level is periodically staffed with a concierge that is a local company. The food and beverage selections are average, nothing special. The liquor and wine selection from 5-7pm are reasonably priced for a resort but the selection is lower quality items, well brands at best. Very musty smell in the club level and outside stairwell. Not sure it is worth the extra money for a club level room. Coming from the Fairmont Orchid, this was a HUGE step down in quality and service. We will not stay at this resort again.

Room Tip: Ocean view is gorgeous.
