“Excellent resort experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 26, 2014

We stayed here in December of 2013, and had a great time. It is definitely family-friendly, but it wasn't too busy since it was just before the Christmas rush. The decor is very tastefully done, and the pool area (with lazy river and water slide) was so much fun. We also dined at two of the restaurants, both of which were really good. The concierge staff helped us book our helicopter tour and had some great tips for island dining and sightseeing. The location is also convenient since you are close to a lot of beaches, but you are also in the middle if you want to get to the west side of the island or drive to the north.

Room was very nice, although very noisy during day,as we were right above one of the waterfalls, but spent little time in room anyway. Beach is rocky, but nice. Sprawling property with plenty of pool area.
Fabulous dinners at Dondero's and Tidepools. Typical buffet breakfasts, but good.
Appreciated the free self serve laundry facilities as we were there days 9 and 10 of our trip and had 4 more days to go!

Room Tip: Partial ocean view room may be "mostly pool view" as ours was!!

I was the only one in line to check in, and my check in process took over one hour. I had a pool room reserved for one night then ocean view for the remainder of the week, The hotel attendant wanted to " upgrade" me. Now I stayed in this hotel and many others in the island, and when you hear the word upgrade without asking for it, it usually means a good thing ... Not so. The attendant decided to discuss his idea with his boss, and disappeared for nearly 20 minutes, came out with a plan to rearrange my whole stay, and gave me a lousy room instead! when I complained about a small bed, no bath tub, no ocean view, what upgrade.., they offered a garden view room which is lower than what I booked. Worse thing was no internet and I needed it for work. After several trials with the" engineering department" they claimed that my device is faulty, but I have 4 devices, are they all faulty? Later at night after a I demonstrated the process of hooking up to internet to engineering finally got a signal , it worked for a while , then disconnected. The second day got a signal from the meeting that I was attending, so I wrote this review. Worse thing was that I contacted management all along, management was careful in saying nice things about potentially helping " after reviewing things, and after checking other customers, and if they have a cancellation...." But of course nothing happened for the room, and I had to really push for the internet. This is the new management at hyatt , the new motto seems to be "upset your customers and when they complain do not bother". Turns out they had a meeting that ended the night before and some guests decided to extend their stay..... Guess who has to pay for that un calculated mistake from revenue management? The next customer, and guess how they decided to handle complaints...... By ignoring the customer. If you are willing to pay for this resort, then you can go to better hotels and resorts.

Aloha Hsal01,
So sorry to hear that your stay with us has not been exceeding your expectation. I hope your room situation has been addressed to your satisfaction. I have forwarded your comments about the spotty internet access to our IT department so that they may improve the connectivity. Sorry for your frustrations and I hope that you enjoy your trip.

We stayed in five hotels in six days while in Hawaii this trip. All of them were good, but this was the nicest and also the most expensive. We didn't eat in any of the hotel restaurats, so I can't comment on that aspect, but our room was large, airy and clean with an excellent view of the pool area and the ocean. The hotel is in a low chicken density area of the island, so we didn't hear any crowing - not that crowing bothered any of us anyway. The staff was friendly and helpful. When we requested a late checkout they gave us until 2:00PM - very accomodating.

There is an ocean facing lounge area where we sat and actually saw hump back whales splashing out in the ocean. If you're into photographing them, I had a 200mm zoom, but it really wasn't adequate - a 300mm would have been better.

There is also a cliff to one side of the property where kids jump into the ocean. It looked to be a forty or fifty foot drop, so you'll get some interesting views there too.

The grounds are beautifully landscaped. The property is clean and well maintained. The staff are friendly and helpful. Great hotel.

Room Tip: We had a pool/ocean view room and it was great.

we stayed at the Grand Hyatt in January for a medical conference The hotel was awesome concierge staff excellent as were the on-site restaurants There was pretty terrific service in the hotel itself however internet connections in public places like around the pool were terrible losing your wifi connection
there is no excuse for not having a good wifi connection at a hotel of this caliber
Food services at my conference were mediocre the eggs were running with water though they were billed as "farm fresh" eggs They were obviously powdered
The coffee was cold at the conference and breakfast service was slow
I would probably give the hotel a 5 except for the above

My partner and I booked in here for a week so I could attend a conference. The resort is sprawling but beautiful and there is plenty to do for those with free time. I can recommend the spa which offers a range of massages and treatments. There are also a good range of restaurants on site, although you will probably want to explore further afield after a couple of days. You can rent an Avis car from the hotel to give you the freedom you need. All in all this is a very comfortable base to explore Kauai.

Room Tip: Ask for an ocean view room. It costs a bit more but the view is lovely and the appointments in the...

Had an excellent stay at the Grand Hyatt - even our "garden view" room had a nice outdoor lanai that looked over the lawn w the ocean in the distance. Staff was extremely helpful and kind with a special shout-out to the front door staff. Only negative was the Donderos restaurant which will be commented on in that forum.
Would recommend to anyone.
