My husband and I had a wonderful and relaxing vacation at the Grand Hyatt. We've stayed in many resorts including the Ritz Carlton in Mauii but this was our favorite resort location by far. The grounds and pools can not be beat and the salt water lagoon is a great change of pace. I recommend purchase of a floatable chair to use in the pools and lagoon (they sell them for about $10.00). Also, make sure to have a romantic dinner @ Tidepools! We booked through Costco Tavel and our trip included breakfast every day which was excellent as well as rental car and overall the cost was very reasonable for the level of vacation.

Room Tip: I would recommend a pool view room.

The sheer enormity of this property is off-putting (people everywhere!), and it's terrifically expensive. That said, what a gorgeous resort! Hats off to the Hyatt folks: All their staff were consistently accommodating, polite, and very professional. Very impressed. Will return, for sure.

Room Tip: Join the Regency Club for nice extras. Worth it.

This is our first time on Kauai and we couldn't have picked a better hotel to stay at. The pools, lazy river, and beach are wonderful. The kids enjoyed the water slide and the salt water lagoon. Pool service was fantastic. There was always someone around checking to see if you needed anything. Everything was very clean. The hotel was peaceful despite it being a very busy time of year. We had breakfast there and a lunch by the pool. Both were fine. We were looking for a particular type of muffin that they had for breakfast. The waitress went out of her way to locate one for us. After driving around the island on a few sight seeing adventures, we are sure we pickled the right hotel. You won't be disappointed.

I have stayed in a lot of Great Hotels but if there ever was one that I could stay in indefinitely, this would be our choice. From the moment we arrived you could tell that this was going to be everything you were wanting it to be. The bell desk was quick and responsive, the Front desk was most accommodating. The Hotel grounds are the most exciting and well maintained of any Hotel I have ever been. I couldn't count the number of pools, the onsite people from Expedia were there to help with anything whether a single event or 10 day excursion. They were great in their recommendations. The shops were inviting in the hotel and happy to help with anything. We dined at the Hotel and found the food exceptional and the ambience(eating on a platform over a pond of Koi) exceptional and creative. We made several good friends there at the hotel and found there detail to service first class. We had a Ocean Front Suite, so the rooms were large and nicely designed. The view from our room were breathtaking every morning and at sunset. This is our #1 pick and will look forward to going back next year

Room Tip: Ocean Front or Garden Room you can't go wrong with but I would suggest you spend little time in...

I come to the Hyatt every year with my family mainly for the pool and sun.

The pool and the team there are fantastic. Always friendly, accommodating and very engaging with my children. Love the daily activities, many options for the kids and various times throughout the day. There were good on-site options for dinner so it was convenient to dine on the resort grounds-LOVE Tidepools. Offsite had a good experience at red salt in the Koa Kea

There was a new amenity at the resort that deserves a highlight, Pacific Dream Photography. Wow. They take you on a photoshoot without a fee on the resort grounds and beach. When they invited us to view the content my wife did it alone, she called me in tears and said that I need to come see ASAP. What they do is very very special. Capturing the family during candid moments and the FUN way they review the images truly left us without words... Only tears. They deserve special thanks for providing this memory for our family. This is a MUST while staying at the resort.

Loraine at the concierge was also great who had helped us with a few recommendations on and off property, always with a smile!!!

Fun offsite activities- helicopter tour is amazing, we used blue Hawaiian. Waimea canyon/ hikes at ko-ke'e must do.

Overall, another fantastic stay, already missing kauai!! Will return!

The service was great, very family friendly yet if on a honeymoon had a section for more quiet, and adult only. Te only down side is the beach is not very safe to swim in. Parking was great, $10 for valet or free if self park. Beautiful grounds. Overall it was great :)

My wife and I stayed at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa for four nights in mid-December. It is one of a very few resorts that have exceeded my pre-visit expectations, which were very high.

Everything about the resort is beautiful, from the setting to the plantings to the swimming lagoons. Even the furniture in the common areas is beautiful, with fused-wood cabinets sporting inlaid panels, carved wooden art pieces, and vases and flowers for adornment. Others reviewers have provided pictures, and I have provided two of my own, one from the lobby looking toward the ocean and one looking toward the lobby from the lagoon area, but none of the pictures does justice to the property.

The Grand Hyatt is located in Poipu, which is on the leeward side of the island, so it gets the best weather. Since the weather in Kauai is often rainy in December, this is a good place to be. Whenever we left the resort for a side trip, we almost immediately ran into rain, even when just five miles or so inland. It did rain on us periodically even in Poipu, although usually not for more than a few minutes two or three times a day. Unfortunately, that often left the chairs around the lagoon too wet for comfort. But, if you are in the mood to swim, you won't be disappointed. The salt-water lagoons are spacious and beautiful. If you prefer fresh water, there are fresh-water pools for adults and for kids.

During our stay, the surf was too high for swimming in the ocean. However, the beach area is nice for sitting, Several swing-chairs seating two are available on the walkway along the beach, and tents for larger parties can also be rented. On two of the four days we stayed at the resort, part of the beach area was roped off to protect a Hawaiian monk seal that was resting on the beach. This is a seriously endangered species, with fewer than 1200 in existence. People came by to take pictures, as did we, but the seal occupied prime real estate on the beach.

Some TripAdvisor reviewers have complained about the food at the resort. The food is expensive, but it is almost everywhere on Kauai. We found the food to be just fine. We ate mostly at the Seaview Terrace and Ilima Terrace, which were indoor/outdoor locations providing relatively light fare in an informal setting. But, the resort has several dining alternatives available.

I would love to find a resort a nice as this one closer to the east coast mainland where I live. So far, I haven't found one.
