Because our whole family (11 of us) went to Kauai we rented two condos right next to each other. We had seen the very good ratings on TripAdvisor and decided to book with them. Definitely a good choice!! Your first words upon entering either of these units on the fourth floor will be "WOW!!!"...guaranteed. The units are about 60 feet up, the view is stunning, and the sound of waves will lull you to sleep every night. Great place to view dolphins, turtles and monk seals! (...and whales, we've heard, although we didn't see any.) The prices for these two units was close to the same, and we felt were very reasonably priced considering what they delivered.

#418: The owners, John and Janis, have used ceiling to floor windows, along with mirrors, to capture the incredible panoramic view and a lot of light. Spectacular. This unit - at the end and quite private - provides probably the best view of all the condos...nearly 180 degrees of beautiful ocean and sunsets! The unit is furnished with everything you'll need, from kitchen items to beach chairs/towels to a hair dryer. They even have a stacking washer and dryer in the unit. There is also a comfortable Aerobed available that our daughter and son-in-law used each night on the living room floor as their twin granddaughters were in cribs in the second bedroom. The unit boasts two nice sized bathrooms, 2 beautiful bedrooms (with very comfortable king beds), tile floors, a fully-equipped, modern kitchen with granite counter tops, a beautifully decorated living room area, and nice patio furniture on the covered lanai. Right below 418 to the west is the Beach House Restaurant. Our kids spoiled us with a gift card to there and it was fabulous. The restaurant hosted a few weddings on the lawn below the unit while we were there....those were fun to watch. Ceiling fans help keep the unit cool and comfortable (there is no A/C). A few nights the winds stopped and it got pretty warm inside, but this IS Hawaii....we didn't mind a bit and just took a dip in the ocean. John and Janis were a joy to work with and very accommodating, even providing an information sheet that answered just about any question you'd have about Kauai, i.e, where to eat, where farmer's markets are, etc. This unit truly is spectacular!

#417: The owner, Jim, was so very kind and an absolute joy to work with, even sending us extra pictures of the bedrooms to see if cribs/pack-n-plays would fit for our grandkids! This beautiful unit opens up right away into a very nicely decorated living space; the floor plan provides a wonderful flow for the ocean breezes so the unit stayed cool and comfortable the entire week. Plush carpet adorns the living room, then flows into tile in the updated dining room and kitchen which is gorgeous... granite countertops, new stainless steel appliances, equipped with everything you need. The windows in the dining area provide a nightly view of the incredible sunsets. The spacious master bedroom has a king bed, and the second bedroom is nice-sized with a queen. The bathrooms were clean and modern, and the unit has a stackable washer and dryer. We found boogie boards and beach chairs for our use, as well, and took advantage of them. The covered lanai boasts nice furniture, and again the view...oh, the view!! This, too, is an exceptionally beautiful vacation rental.

There is no pool at Kuhio Shores, but we'd much rather swim in the ocean. :o) There is an elevator available to reach each floor but we chose to walk up the four flights of steps (mostly because we had Starbucks and Lappert's ice cream each day.) Both of these condos are ideally situated next to Lawai Beach (next to the Beach House Restaurant... wonderful for snorkeling, but not so great for little ones), Koloa Landing (best scuba diving place on the island, in our opinion), Baby Beach (great for littles and only a 5-10 minute walk from Kuhio Shores), and two newer little malls that host Starbucks, Bubbas Burgers, Lapperts Ice Cream, etc., and a few general stores. Only a 5 minute drive away is Poipu Beach (great for littles and for snorkeling) and Brennecke Beach (awesome for boogie boarding). We've been to Kauai 5 times and so far this is our favorite place to stay. We hope to be back soon!

Overall, It was a great stay. There are corner units in this complex that are really interesting as they have a view of the sunset( I think the even numbered condos face south, which if you have a corner, the corner faces west). The beds were comfortable, decor Hawaiian, and will need updating soon. The kitchen supplies need work, the knives were awful. The fridge has an ice maker, no air conditioning(don't think any of the units have it), 2 bathrooms, 2 showers, no tub. Wifi works good, the sound of the ocean is intense and wonderful inside the condo. The grounds are kept well, they are constantly cleaning the grounds and building. There is a bike rack, elevator, 2 grilles(gas) in the parking lot. Plenty of off street parking. It's quiet, which is important since your windows are open at night. Every room has a ceiling fan.The Beachhouse restaurant is right next door, it is fancy and not a place we wanted to hang out for more than one night, didn't feel comfortable. Snorkeling is fantastic at beach in front of Beachhouse. You really can't swim in front of condo because it is a rocky rough shoreline and the waves will keep you away. You can swim around and snorkel in front, but it is shallow and I had to pick my days. Lots of turtles and whales further out, binocs we brought came in handy. Many restaurants within 5-10 minute drive, grocery store is in Koloa Town, about 10 minutes in car. Eating in Kauai is expensive, $30-$40 entrees at nice restaurants are common. We went Ziplining, and really enjoyed it, also an airplane ride through Air Ventures, another plus. The boat tour of Napali coast was a great trip also, go in the morning, it gets rough. This is a very pretty and scenic island, expensive, but nice. Not much to do at night music wise, but you can check kauaimusicscene.com. We were hoping for Hawaiian music at the Tiki hut at sunset, like Honolulu and it doesn't seem to happen. You will like this condo and Poipu seemed like a great location on the island. No swimming pool at complex.

everything was fine, the place is amazingly well equipped, very usable in every way, very comfortable, and extremely well-situated to access the whole island-end to end - we took a helicopter ride - doors off- with mauna loa out of lihue [east side], did some hiking in waimea canyon on a couple of different days[west side], hiked up nounou [east side], and sampled the first mile and a half of the kakalau trail and snorkeled at ke’e beach [north shore]. and it's great going to sleep to the sound of the ocean.

well equipped = full kitchen equipment/utensils, good cooking knives, various sizes of coolers, beach chairs, ironing board and iron, boogie board, some snorkel gear. my wife wanted some fresh orange juice and found a citrus squeezer.

btw, among other things we snorkeled in a few other places, but the best snorkeling we found was on either side of kuhio shores- in front of the beach house [restaurant next door] and in the small bay the place overlooks. entry and exit are a little dicey for that bay, but there were a lot of fish and an extremely large turtle.

My husband and I won a week at Kuhio Shores #307 in an auction. Since the time of the auction, the unit was completely renovated. We were surprised at how much larger the unit seemed to be compared to the photos that were taken before the renovation. My family of four loved our time in Poipu, and the location of this condo was fantastic. All four of us were excited to see large sea turtles feeding in the water outside of our balcony. The turtles came back each day. From the grassy area behind the building (and the adjacent Beach House Restaurant) we watched the sunset over the water each evening. We also liked being able to walk to a couple of nice beaches.

The unit has a large kitchen with brand new cabinets, a large island, stone cabinets, and stainless steel appliances. We bought delicious fruits, vegetables, and herbs at the local farmer's markets, and created some delicious meals in this fully stocked kitchen. The property even has gas grills available for guests to use, and we enjoyed grilling steaks and lobsters.

My kids were apprehensive about sleeping on a sofa bed, but they were pleasantly surprised with the comfort of this sofa bed. It has a unique design without springs. It was easy to setup, and the kids slept very well. No complaints! The living room also had a large television, an entertainment system, and wifi.

The master bedroom has a very comfortable King Sized bed. It also has good closet space and built-in drawers for storage. We found a cooler, a beach umbrella, and beach mats in the closet. I was nervous about sharing one bathroom among our family of 4, but the size of the bathroom was large enough to accommodate all of our toiletries, towels, and other belongings. It felt very luxurious with the stone counters and dark wood cabinets.

All-in-all, we had a fantastic trip. Although we had a couple days of rain, we used those days to drive to the Costco in Lihue, do some other shopping, and to see a movie that the kids had been asking to see.

If you are on the other side of this condo building, your views are amazing. However, we were the end unit that was right next to the street. We had a view of the ocean, but also of the endless traffic. I would say that this place is just OK--although I wouldn't stay there again.

We have been to Hawaii many times. The last 4 times have been only on Kauai in Poipu. This year we found Kuhio Shores Condo 307, and Polly, who is a wonderful person and very easy to work with. We knew from talking to Polly, what we were walking into. We arrived late at night, all the lights were on, fans were on, but WOW, it was magnificent. You immediately felt at home, and knew Polly enjoyed the "better" things in life. It is hard to describe. She also loved Kauai as much as we do.Everything had been remodeled, and new. There is nothing you would want changed, everything just blended in perfectly. Two sets of china, lots of glasses, different sizes, new cooking utensils, plenty of everything you could need. Lovely attractive serving trays. Good lighting all over. Two new large TV's. One of the times Poly checked in on us, to see if we needed anything, I commented the only missing item I could see was a "wall clock" in the living area. After we returned home, she told me she had found one to go with the decor. Now its complete. We were the last week of January and first week of Feb. We opened the sliding doors when we arrived and closed them the morning we left. Breeze and hearing the waves all day and night was wonderful. The unit is in a quiet area. Beach and walking area perfect. I hope Polly will take "new" pictures of the unit showing her new items and remodeling. We look forward to returning soon.
