We have been to Hawaii many times. The last 4 times have been only on Kauai in Poipu. This year we found Kuhio Shores Condo 307, and Polly, who is a wonderful person and very easy to work with. We knew from talking to Polly, what we were walking into. We arrived late at night, all the lights were on, fans were on, but WOW, it was magnificent. You immediately felt at home, and knew Polly enjoyed the "better" things in life. It is hard to describe. She also loved Kauai as much as we do.Everything had been remodeled, and new. There is nothing you would want changed, everything just blended in perfectly. Two sets of china, lots of glasses, different sizes, new cooking utensils, plenty of everything you could need. Lovely attractive serving trays. Good lighting all over. Two new large TV's. One of the times Poly checked in on us, to see if we needed anything, I commented the only missing item I could see was a "wall clock" in the living area. After we returned home, she told me she had found one to go with the decor. Now its complete. We were the last week of January and first week of Feb. We opened the sliding doors when we arrived and closed them the morning we left. Breeze and hearing the waves all day and night was wonderful. The unit is in a quiet area. Beach and walking area perfect. I hope Polly will take "new" pictures of the unit showing her new items and remodeling. We look forward to returning soon.

This was our first visit to Kauai (we're Maui regulars-Lokelani condos!), and we booked fairly last minute (a few weeks out) so there were not many options. We were surprised this unit was available, as it is priced well and in a good location. Short version: great condo, would rent again for sure. I'll just highlight some of the (many) positives, and a few of the drawbacks (well, depending on your perspective I suppose). First of all, the owner of the unit was very easy to deal with, and the condo is extremely well setup as a rental unit. It has all kinds of things on hand you might not have thought of, including some awesome beach chairs and lots of kitchen utensils and condiment-type items (salt, pepper, seasoning, olive oil, etc). There was a helpful binder with information about the nearby area. It is very modern with nice kitchen and bathroom. It is a bit small, but then you should be outside loving life not inside! We were just one couple and it was plenty big enough for us. The view is nice, it faces east so you get sunrises over the houses on the other side of the small cove but no late afternoon sun or sunsets. Other units in the building face south where I believe you can probably get sunrises as well as sunsets. Of course you can just walk to the southside of the building for excellent views of the sunset plus a nice little beach (we saw a monk seal there too which was cool). The bed was large, felt like a King to me. The location is excellent, on the Lawai road stretch (near Koloa town and Poipu beach) was has some other rental condos nearby and some nice oceanfront homes. The Allerton gardens are about 1 mile walk west, as is the Spouting Horn. There are some small beaches very close by (i.e., one right beside the building, the other, baby beach, a few hundred metres away). The snorkeling was amazing right outside the building! Saw almost every type of fish on the 'fish finder guide' they hand out at rental places. Outstanding. Poipu beach ("it is always sunny in Poipu"-- not 100% true, but certainly true MOST of the time) is about a 35-40 minute walk away and it is beautiful. Lots of little stores and restaurants are walkable including the Shops at Kahui'ula and various restaurants in the hotels in Poipu beach. The 'Beach house' restaurant is RIGHT beside the condo, which seemed convenient except it turns out we hated this place (see other review on this topic). If you were ambitious you could walk to Koloa town (very cool stores and great fish market!) in 45-60 minutes. There are lots of runners and walkers around here which is nice when you need a break from the beaches. OK enough positives. On the 'slightly negative side' (I say slightly because they are not anyone's fault, just things to be aware of when choosing where to stay), I would list the following: No pool (this is not a hidden fact, just keep it in mind), limited ocean view compared to some units in this building (you face a small [lovely] cove rather than the beautiful open ocean), relatively small (again, perfectly adequate for a couple), barbecues are on the opposite side of the condo parking lot near the garbage disposal area (discouraged us from going to cook as you miss the sunsets and it isn't a nice social area), and there is a $110 'cleaning fee' rather than a cleaning deposit (this was a bit annoying since we could easily clean the place and save some money). Other good things I just remembered: free parking (and plenty of it), and good (free) Wifi, and plenty of TV channels in case you get some of the famous Kauai rain while there. Overall, a great experience and we feel lucky to have found this unit!

Room Tip: We stayed in Unit 205, our comments are specific to that unit.

My husband and I just spent 10 days in #403 and the description of it on VRBO was true to a "T". We knew beforehand that it wasn't real fancy, as I think the owners are fixing it up little by little, and that was OK with us, as was the price, for a condo smack-dab on the water. But don't get me wrong, the place is sufficiently furnished and comfortable. The bed is new and VERY comfy, always had hot water and plenty of water pressure (2 things we've encountered problems with previously in other locations). The kitchen & bathroom are a little outdated but everything worked. We woke up fairly early each day and enjoyed a beautiful sunrise almost every morning, as well as, watched the huge sea turtles directly below us and the whales and dolphins in the distance. In the evening, we found the grounds on the west side to be a gathering place to watch the magnificent sunsets each evening so we'd fix a drink about 5:30 and head down. The grounds are adjacent to The Beach House restaurant, which is a fabulous 5-star restaurant to eat at, at least once while you're there. It's pricey but worth it. Around the corner, up the street, are a bunch of shops and restaurants, which you can drive to in like 2 minutes or about a 10 minute walk. I found more shops to the east of the roundabout and more restaurants (Poipu Shoppes), but there is also a General Store by the Starbucks, which has a little of everything at fairly good prices. Otherwise, there are a couple grocery stores just up the road in Old Koloa Town. My recommendation, though, if you want to stock the condo with food and/or beverages, is to hit the Walmart or Cosco in Lihue, right after you leave the airport. There is also a Farmer's Market on Wednesdays from 3:30-6 by the shoppes around the corner for fresh produce. I also recommend a very cheap but fun & scenic 9-hole golf course by Port Allen, west of Poipu. We paid $35 pp w/club rental. I'd stay at this condo again, as it is a great location, well taken care of and well priced.

If you keep coming back to a property something must be special, the location, the proprietor the ambiance or all of the above. In this case, it is all of the above. My wife and I come back each time because of it.

You cannot find a better place to rent a condo on Kauai. The bldg is located just down the road from the Spouting Horn and your are on the ocean on the "sunny" Poipu side of Kauai.

You have picturesque sunsets every night, you fall asleep listening to the waves crashing just 10 paces out of your back door. You wake up to sea turtles and see surfers riding PK's break in the distance. If your here from Nov. to April the whales will mesmerize you from your lounge chair on the lanai.

You are on the bottom floor in 116 and you walk directly out onto the impeccably maintained grass and if take those aforementioned 10 steps you will be at waters edge. You have snorkeling out front, one of the best snorkeling spots on the island 150 yards to your right just past what is possibly the islands best restaurant, the Beach House! People pay to eat here just to watch the marvelous sunsets you get each night of your stay.

This condo will accommodate 4 comfortably.

Ann Breedlove, the owner of this condo. is an absolute pleasure to work with, no pressure no hassle and her condo is well equipped for everything. She supplies boogie boards, beach chairs fins, masks and snorkels, even binoculars for spying the whales.

If your looking for what I believe is the best place to stay on Kauai, look no further. Give Ann a call before you look elsewhere.

My wife and I just stayed in the newly remodeled 307, this unit has it all. New Kitchen and appliances, new 60" TV with surround sound and speakers in the bedroom for your music!
A view of sea turtles just below the Lanai and whales spouting out in the ocean. The bathroom is splendidly remodeled with walk in shower. Bedroom redone with huge bed and extra wide entry. Morning sun and afternoon shade on the lanai mean beautiful sunrise and just when it starts to heat up it, you can enjoy a cool beverage while observing marine life in the afternoon shade. We found this unit lavish, perfect for exploring, swimming, best snorkel on island, hiking, great dining or cooking in and generally an opulent base camp in heaven on earth!!!! Stayed in 307 last year before nw owner and it was nothing special inside, new owner has worked magic!!We will return soon, see photos!
