Stayed at The Point at Poipu May 28-June 3 - the resort was very clean and I was very happy with my choice. Poipu is in the southern tip of Kauai, so we hardly had a rainy day - we drove to the northern tip of the island a few times where we came across some rain clouds but it would only rain for a few minutes and then stop during this time of year! It was great! Only downside was the resort charged $40/wk for internet access.

The resort is on bluff and it is a 5-10 min. walk to shipwreck beach. Too rough for my taste so we usually drove to the parking lot past Sheraton, walk towards the Waiohai and there you will be able to snorkel and see a lot of fish - specially the Humuhumnukunukuapuaa. Other beaches where snorkeling was great are: Ke'e Beach and Anini Beach.

To rent snorkel gear, don't bother going to Boss Frogs, they advertise low rental rates (2 for 1s) but once you get there and the line can be long (no airconditioning so you will sweat to high heavens, plus very rude) the lady will announce that they have the last snorkel set at the 2 for 1 price and will give you the classic bait and switch (despite the fact that they have tons of snorkels and fins hanging on the ceiling and walls that you can see). Don't waste time on your vacation dealing with this *&^%!. Try the other rental stores like Snorkel Bobs, it's airconditioned and they'll give you a fair price for the weekly (daily) rental.

Went to the Grand Hyatt next door for some meals and listened to some contemporary hawaiian music and drinks one night, it was great!

We found the Point to be quite adequate for our needs. As with many family holidays, we spent very little time at the hotel/condo, as we were busy participating in many of the island's activities. We were able to eat breakfast at home, at our leisure and return from our activities for a cocktail before heading out for dinner. The pool was perfect for our boys, as they enjoyed playing football in the shallow waters. By the way, it does not have a sandy bottom (one of my inital perceptions from photos). Personally, I would have preferred a deeper pool, but the ocean is certainly deep enough! The poolside grill was great in that the food was inexpensive (by comparison to the rest of the island), tasted great, and was served very quickly! We were in a two bedroom garden view room. It had all that we needed. We loved the access to the washing machine, as the red dirt from AVTing would have required us to throw away our clothes! The location was fine--we drove to where we needed to go. Upon our arrival, the staff was very helpful in that we had missed the Easter bunny in our hotel overnight in Maui--they placed all of our kids' goodies, plus added some of the hotel's own, in our room before we actually stepped into the room! All in all, we absolutely loved the island and the accomodations, although not 5 star, were more than adequate! We tried all the activities, the 5 hour boat tour, ATVing, Ziplining, SNUBA diving, horseback riding, tubing, etc. We would recommend it all! In fact, we are already planning to return!

I read the reviews to get an idea as to what I was trading for and had a little concern about the room. The resort called three days before our stay to confirm our trip and they put the request for a view on our reservation. When we arrived we had a view and it was great. The staff was VERY courteous in all areas. The Island is beautiful, but I recommand a rental call if you want to see it all.

We stayed here because they offered us a full week at $890 after sitting through their timeshare presentation in feb, 2008. We just came back this april to try it out. Overall we liked our stay at the hilton in Lihue better.

The rooms are dated but big. We found a half alive cockroach in our bathroom when we got there - then one in the closet about 3 days later. The ones out side on the sidewalks were even bigger - yikes.

We loved that the place had a full kitchen and all the utensils you might need including blender, coffee maker (and enough to get you started with 4 cups), toaster, microwave, and the outdoor grills near the pool, five of them, etc. We loved the DVD player in the living room. We loved the wash/dryer - except we think it stained some of our white clothes with yellow splotches.

We loved the guy who worked the pool towel/scuba area. He was super nice, super friendly and had great advice about the island - he said he's been living here for 51 years and he had alot of Aloha love for everyone.

We thought the service at the front desk was terrible. The girl working the desk on 4/23/09 in the evening was abrubt with us and then would say Aloha - like it was ok. We took it as rude - but maybe that's how they treat you after you say no to the presentation? We didn't like that the rooms were buggy either.

The location is in Poipu, which is in the southern area of the island. That area is nice because you can walk to the Poipu beach to snorkel and swim - or you can drive there too. We like going to the North end of the island as well - so it was a good hour drive, we missed staying at the Hilton because it was in the middle of the island in Lihue and we felt like everything was no farther than :45 minutes.

This condo/resort is good for familes or people coming in a big group of friends together. It's great if you plan on doing all your cooking at the resort. This is definatley not a honeymoon suite kind of place. The Grand Hyatt next door is for honeymoons - it's simply amazing - we would walk over there for coconut lattes and sit on their amazing deck viewing the ocean.

I guess you get what you pay for, but I think I'd be disappointed if this was my timeshare. We paid $890 for the week at the Point at Poipu. We paid $1,120 at the Hilton last year - I'd rather pay the $230 extra and get 5 star service. Their ENTIRE staff was friendly, helpful, considerate & they had perks including a free cockails at the pool everyday from 4-6pm.

Hope this helps anyone traveling to Kauai.

We first fell in love with this resort and especially its location in 1999. The management has changed over the years; now Diamond Resorts has assumed that role. The positive differences in the resort from February 08 to February 09 are noticeable. Diamond has replaced all the beds with top-of-the line Serta Perfect Sleeper pillow top mattresses. Better yet, they have replaced all the pillows and bedding. The sheets, even those for rollaways and hideabeds, are very high quality. Each bed actually has 3 sheets--the blanket is topped with a sheet, just like the Hyatt or the Westin. (In fact, we were told the beds are exactly the same as those at the Westin.) The grounds (tiered gardens, waterfalls, ponds) are lovely. The staff is friendly and very helpful.

Our son, daughter-in-law and 5 year old grandson were with us this year. Our grandson loved siwmming in the pool, walking just a few steps down a path to "turtle cove" and counting the whales from our lanai. Within a 3-minute walk there is Shipwreck Beach (in front of the Grand Hyatt). And a 10 minute walk or a 2 minute drive brings you to two more incredible beaches--Brenneke's Beach for boogie-boarding and Poipu Beach, a guarded beach voted many years as one of the top 10 beaches in the world. There you can swim and snorkle--and maybe watch an endangered monk seal sleep on the warm sand.

So to sum it all up, The Point at Poipu is very nice and is improving (and the maintenance fees the owners pay are increasing!!)--but its LOCATION is what lures us back year after year. It is at the south end of Kauai--THE place to be in the fall, winter and spring.
