We are on our last day of a weeks stay. When checking in they did not have the room type we requested and we spent one night in a building where the activities are by the pool. The next day we were able to move to another building overlooking the gardens and ponds which are beautiful. The 2bdrm unit is very large with comfortable "diamond resort" pillows and bedding. The kitchen is fully equipped which is great. There is an in-unit washer &dryer which we loved the convenience of having. If you don't mind a walk you can go over to Roy's or the other eateries nearby.
What really stood out was the customer service. I needed a document notarized and the notary on site was happy to help. I also needed a photocopy- "no problem" said the ladies at the front desk and quickly accommodated. It was just nice to have those extra touches and not be driving all over the island trying to find a notary public and a place to make copies. Thanks folks!

Room Tip: It depends what you like. If you have kids and want to be by the pool and/or activities- building 9...

We are 'ocean front' owners at this property, which evidently means noithing in terms of the type of room we are assigned. Two years ago we were stuck in building 9 where the ocean views are blocked by a sizable berm with vegetation growing from the top. When I tried for another room, the staff tried to stick us in less suitable room. This year, I called in advance to to assure we would not be assigned to the same room. I was concerned about the slight slant in the bathroom floor. The reservation clerk was noncommital. Due to a flight delay, we arrived after our guests from the east coast had checked in.....to the same room we had two years ago, slanted floor, berm view.....! When I asked to be moved, the staff member very 'kindly' tried to move us into Building 3, which is adjacent to Building 4 where there is construction taking place. We finally ended up in a room with a slightly better view. Actually, they did us a favor...when we went to our time share presentation(to get a discount on an activity), it was super simple to say "Not at all interested."

Room Tip: I wish I knew! Being a long time owner and calling in advance did not help. If you want an ocean vie...

They first tried to give us our time share rental in a dark unit looking into adjacent construction sight. The housekeeping told us we could expect loud tile cutting saws Monday through Friday! When we returned to the front desk, one of the check in clerks actually admitted to me that they tried to get those that would accept them into the inferior units first when they didn't speak up! Had I not, our patio would have looked out on scaffolding and I can only imagine the noise. It would not have been a romantic "Kauai experience" as we wanted. After switching, we were very pleased with the 2nd unit we received, and had a fabulous time. Great location and mellow vibe. Only other complaint is that they only have a mediocre poolside grill for snacks and beverages, and being away from a swimming beach, only one pool. There are enough restaurants relatively close by, though, that this was no great hardship. Overall, a very nice time.

Room Tip: Make sure, if displeased at first, you ask for more selection before accepting your room!

Overall we were very very happy with our stay at the Point at Poipu. Our suite, a 2 bedroom condo had all the amenities one could imagine. The beds and even the sofa bed was very comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped and the entire suite was very spacious. Our balcony had a great view of the deep blue ocean and it was fun just sitting there and enjoying the ocean breeze and wonderful view. The ocean was directly accessible from the property with just a short walk to the beach. The only complaint we would have was the noise level due to construction of an additional building on property.

Thank you for your review of our resort. We are very pleased to read that you had a very enjoyable stay here, and that our accommodations, amenities, and location met, if not exceeded, your expectations. There is currently external building work taking place on individual buildings. During the day, there will be noise within the resort grounds while the work is in progress. We apologize if this had a negative effect on your stay. Looking forward to seeing you again very soon!

We stayed here back in June for a family vacation for 5 nights and booked an "ocean front" room... we looked at a map of the property and it -looked- like there was a beach immediately available. When we got there, we were surprised that our "Ocean Front" room was on the 2nd floor of building 2... Ocean Front at this property means that you can 'see' the ocean and that there are no buildings between you and it...

We were somewhat surprised that we had to walk to the Hyatt next door to use the beach (and, in fact, we were actually accosted by one of the security guards at the Hyatt who said that the beach was for 'hotel guests' only!)

The facilities are very nice, though. The kitchen is well appointed, the bathrooms are nice, the bedding and couches are comfortable. We'd definitely stay there again. The staff also seems to be genuinely caring. We contacted them a few times (wireless not working correctly, questions about what was nearby, etc), and were always treated with respect.

I will also echo someone else's comments here -- stop by Costco on the way in.. there's also a Times supermarket right near Costco.... stop at one of those two, as there aren't really any grocery stores out near Poipu. There are a couple of 'neighborhood markets' out there, but their stock is limited.

Room Tip: Remember that Ocean Front does not mean that you can walk out on the beach! Building 2 was quiet wi...

What a location. Everyday the trade winds blew 10 - 20 mph, but you couldn't tell while on the property. Walk along the shoreline to shipwreck beach, or a long walk or short drive to Poipu Beach. The pool is unique with a cement floor that is made to look like the ocean floor. The koi ponds added some entertainment. The two bedroom condo was great and had all the amenities that we needed. The front desk was very helpful, we arrived early and they allowed us to drop off our bags and they took them to our bags. They gave us directions to the closest market so we could get some food for the room and then took our food to the room as well. Every time we asked them for something, they took care of it. The only thing that was not on the up and up was the Time Share update for owners. I told them that I used my points to reserve the place through Interval International because Diamond Resorts didn't have any rooms available (this is a Diamond Resort, so It makes no sense to me that it's not available to DRI members) The representative told me "there is no way you could get the room you got with the points you have available". Once the second timeshare representative came in with his additional knowledge, the first rep backed down a little, I felt like she was going to put me in a new room with a bright light to get me to divulge my secret. Bottom line was a sales pitch: another $51,000 up front and $2500 a year, I can stay at this place for 10 days a year. It was worth it for what I paid, but not for that price...I said NO.

Room Tip: We had a partial ocean view room on the top floor

I did my research and took the advice of several reviewers. Make note that the resort is aware of the advice of others. We were given a first floor condo overlooking the construction and made note to ask for a higher floor. They came back with a standard answer that there weren’t any clean rooms on the higher floor. They did however give us a choice of two other first floor rooms. We insisted on checking out there locations first (They were not happy with that but the lobby was crowed so they obliged). A wise decision – and we picked a lovely first floor room in building 1. Most of the rooms are landlocked from the view due to the building layout and I am assuming the wind. Our room had a lovely garden view with mountains and a wee bit of the ocean. Condo was updated and very clean and there was a lot of room. Nice patio with chase and table and chairs the pool was nice and there were always plenty of chairs. They had a barbeque day with hamburgers and hotdogs for $3.00 one afternoon. Don’t bother – poor quality food. There were plenty of grills that are cleaned every morning – grill your own. The Hyatt resort is right next door and it is a short walk to the beach and a beautiful place to walk the grounds. This resort is quite and there were few families there when we were there. We would go back again.

Room Tip: Ask for a few choices of available rooms than spend a minute to walk the grounds and see where those...
