I didn't know where else to put this so I decided here. Brennecke's is not just the restaurant upstairs (which we ate at - lots of locals and probably one of the better places to eat in Poipu but you pay for it and I've had equal or better for less in Lihue) but it is also the travel excursion booking agency below and the deli next door. We booked a Na pali coast trip with them and LOVED it! Very small 4 person group - our Captain - Greg (definately ask for him - the one that was on National Geographic) - normally captains the large tankers and does this for fun when he's in port. He was spectacular and got us into some of the caves even in winter when the surf can be very choppy. We felt very safe with him, he was incredibly knoweldgeable about the island and grew up on one of the sugar plantations. He even had worked with some of the movie crews when they filmed here. We would HIGHLY recommend this trip since it also leaves from a harbor further up the coast than most of the tours which leave out of Port Allen. As a result you drive a little further in the car but its less of a drive in the boat and you can spend more time along the Na Pali Coast. My husband and I also did some snorkeling while everyone else had lunch - got to see some beautiful sea turtles!
When you book a tour with Brennecke's you get a free desert for the restaurant upstairs and half off rental gear in the surf shop just across the parking lot - we rented snorkel gear for two for a whole week for $ 20! Also your right in front of Poipu Beach which is an excellent snorkeling locale in the winter, lots of little children in the protected half moon pool and good snorkeling further out near the reef - saw many triggerfish, boxfish, wrasse, eels, butterflyfish and some that we still are trying to find the name for! Definately a must!
