“Well known beach bar”
Reviewed February 15, 2012

It's upstairs, and a little difficult for those who have trouble walking. We were surprised how small it was inside, especially since we saw lots and lots of advertising for the place. They took our reservation over the phone, but it was pretty obvious from the small size that we would have to wait for the next table to empty, rather than them having one for us when we arrived. But the food and service were both good.

“Best on the south shore!”
Reviewed February 14, 2012

We LOVED Brennecke's and went there almost day for Happy Hour and/or dinner. They have a great happy hour menu and the best Mai Tai's made with the local Koloa Rum. The staff was friendly and the menu was diverse with many local offerings.

“Brennecke's... skip it for dinner.”
Reviewed February 13, 2012

Brennecke's was the most popular restaurant in Poipu Beach. The 4 of us went to an early dinner. Upon arriving at the restaurant, which was fairly empty, we were asked if we had a reservation. We did not. Some confusion ensued, and we got a table in a few minutes.

As an app, we ordered the seared ahi.... which must have been seared earlier in the day, and put into the fridge. So basically, we had ledftover seared ahi. My wife ordered the fresh fish with pasta which she said was great. I ordered steak, with veggies and mashed potatos. I ordered my steak rare... which basically came out cold. The potatos were horrible.

Lonely Planet for Kauai said skip the restaurant, and stick to the deli.... we should have listened.

We were able to walk in and snag a table, which had a decent view of the beach and sunset. The atmosphere was along the lines of a Chili's or a Friday's, they obviously thought they were really cool.
The food was tasty, if overpriced. Our prime rib sandwich was at least a half inch thick slab of steak on two pieces of bread, and the pupu platter appetizer was delicious, with several different flavors of seafood to swich between.
Our waiter was friendly, but far more attentive to his other larger tables, passing over us several times. The other wait staff had an almost pretentious attitude which was off-putting.
Overall, our experience wasn't all that memorable, and we probably wouldn't go back.

“Good for locals and tourista”
Reviewed February 12, 2012

Not good if any in your party dislikes climbing stairs, but once you get to the top level, the trade winds are fine. Very unpretentious and friendly; the fish platter appetizer is to die for. We were told we'd have to wait 30 minutes, but they seated us in 5. Good value for the money.
