Description: Plantation Gardens Restaurant & Bar is located in a beautifully restored plantation manor on the Hawaiian Island of Kauai. Dating back to the 1930's, the estate once served as the plantation manager's home for Hawaii's first sugar plantation, the Koloa plantation. Later, the estate was acquired by the Moir Family who built the world famous gardens that surround the restaurant. Our menu reflects the heritage of old plantation Hawaii, which celebrates the abundance and beauty of the Hawaiian Islands. Our fresh fish is caught daily by local fishermen in waters off Kauai. We use organically grown vegetables and herbs picked fresh on nearby farms and from our own gardens. Guests may choose to dine on our lanai overlooking tranquil gardens, lily ponds and tropical foliage or in our exquisitely refurbished dining room which features gorgeous Brazilian cherry wood floors, woven bamboo tables and plantation ceiling fans.

“Extremely Happy Wedding Party”
Reviewed July 18, 2014

My wife and I decided a year ago to get married in Poipu during July 2014. Looking around for a location to hold a reception-style dinner a couple days after the wedding ceremony, we discovered Plantation Gardens. We met with Mona when we visited in January 2014 to meet vendors and we were so relieved how incredibly helpful she was with planning our event. Her attention to detail and friendly nature were so welcome. Both the restaurant and lawn were great and could have definitely held our wedding if we had decided not to have it on the beach. Either that night or the night after, we came back for dinner to try the food, which was awesome! We were totally sold and could not wait to bring our 78 guests back in to dine with us. The rest of staff were truly amazing, they even wore the sunglasses we provided to our guests during the evening! The food was beyond delicious. All our guests had a blast eating, dancing to DJ Donovan and enjoying Sandi’s cupcakes. Thanks again for allowing us and our guests to have such a memorable experience at our wedding.

“This could be a great restaurant but...”
Reviewed July 9, 2014

If you love beautiful gardens (orchids, cacti, lily ponds) then this is the place for you. The setting is idyllic.Try for an outdoor table.
Unfortunately, this restaurant could be a great one but they miss in several ways. First, the mixed drink I ordered was watered down. My party of seven people requested some bread for the table, only to be told by the waiter that there was a $4.95 charge for the bread service. This annoyed us considering that this is an expensive restaurant. Does it really have to nickel and dime its patrons?
Then, when I ordered a grilled fish of the day, the waiter came back a few minutes later saying that the chef could not grill that particular type of fish so I ordered another type.
The main course was splendid -- a combination of beef, steamed fish and grilled fish, all reasonably priced for $32. It was seasoned perfectly and prepared to perfection.
Finally, the desserts were unimaginative. I had a fancy sounding chocolate dessert which turned out to be basically chocolate pudding (were they trying to prepare chocolate mousse?) Other members of my party had a generic cheese cake.
I do think this restauant has great potential but will need a really great manager to make all of this happen.

“Old-fashioned, rather tired feeling.. Disappointing. .”
Reviewed July 2, 2014

The food at Plantation gardens was uninspiring and very old-fashioned feeling. The service was adequate but not particularly friendly. We had a much better meal and experience at Keoki's Paradise or go all out and eat at Red Salt but skip Plantation Gardens - there are far better alternatives.

“Great setting, GREAT staff! Luv the food!”
Reviewed June 30, 2014

Ate there again last night. Brendan was the best! He treated us like royalty. Menu is not huge but the selections are a perfect representation of Kauai. Presentation is great, food is VERY good, and service top notch.

“Quiet Place”
Reviewed June 29, 2014

We have been here several times now and enjoy eating in the bar area. Service is attentive and lots of Aloha. Bartenders make creative drinks. Menu is small. There are some really good pupus. The Mrs. likes there lychee martini! Restaurant is in an old Plantation Home. Very beautiful gardens located on the property. We haven't eaten in the dining area yet, so I cant review that. The manager is very nice and always remembers us! Great place for dinner and drinks!! We will be back..
